By Dennis Edwards: Reuters new service has reported that Israel would consider the invitation by the French to peace talks with the Palestinians. An Israeli official said that Israel felt France had done wrong by saying it would recognize a Palestinian state, if the peace talks failed. Why is that? Because as far back as 1974 Israel has done nothing but talk, talk and talk at the various peace negotiations. As long as they can keep the Palestinians talking, while they take more land, they are content.
Why are the peace talks of interest to the Bible student? In the prophecies of Daniel, we see the Antichrist confirming the Holy Covenant. Many Bible scholars believe the Holy Covenant will involve some agreement between the Palestinians and Israel, and will be implemented by the International Community. The Palestinians want peace, security and autonomy and or statehood. The Israelis want peace, security and the ability to worship on the Temple Mount by constructing the Third Temple. Could the Holy Covenant incorporate the wishes of both parties and allow Israel to rebuild their temple and begin prayer and sacrifice on the Temple Mount, while granting some sort of Statehood to Palestine?
The prophecies in Daniel indicate that temple worship, prayers and sacrifices will take place for around 2 years and ten months until they are stopped by the Antichrist at the invasion of Israel and breaking of the covenant. The sign Jesus gave for the beginning of the Great Tribulation, which many scholars believe could be WW3, included the breaking of the covenant. For some reason the Antichrist invades Israel, breaks the covenant, abolishes religious service and declares himself world ruler. This event initiates the mandatory computer identification implant, commonly called the Mark of the Beast, and precedes the Battle of Armageddon which occurs some 3 1/2 years later. That's why you need to be alert to the situation in the Middle East.
