Take a read through the book of Isaiah and Jeremiah with an open mind and heart. God's pronounced judgment on Israel, his people, can easily be applied to America today, and any and all nations that forget God. That is why we have the ominous feeling of impending judgment. We deserve it for we have forgotten our God.
