Psalm 28:1 “Unto Thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not
silent to me: lest, if Thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down
into the pit.”
That’s how we often feel when we are down and out, or
lacking in strength, or facing a big obstacle or problem in life. We want to
hear God’s voice of encouragement. We want a sign, a token, that He is with us
and helping us. In Psalm 86:17 we read,
“Show me a token for good, that they which hate me may see
it, and be ashamed: because Thou, Lord, has helped me, and comforted me.”
We look for that sign in a dream, or a prophecy, or a word
from a friend, or the still, small voice of the Lord. Ultimately, we want to
hear God’s voice. We want to know that He is with us and that we are on the
right path in our decision, in our walk with Him through life. Isaiah 55:1-3a,
also, touches on our need to hear God’s voice.
“Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he
that has no money; come, ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without
money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not
bread? And your labour for that which satisfies not? Hearken diligently unto to
Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
Incline your ear and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live.”
It's when we hear God’s voice, that still small encouraging quiet
voice in our conscience, confirming the direction we should go; that we find
the peace of body, mind, and spirit that we seek. If we have poured out our
soul in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, as Apostle Paul has
admonished, and as we see the Psalmist David do in his songs, we will finally
break through the fog of discouragement or confusion of mind and come to that
place of peace from God that passes even our carnal reasoning or mental
understanding. We can heave a sigh of relief and say, “Thank you Jesus. You are
with me.”
Psalm 28:2 “Hear the voice of my supplication, when I cry
unto Thee, when I lift up my hands toward the holy oracle.”
David is praying desperately to God to hear his cry. We,
likewise, cry aloud today for God’s guidance and help, His encouragement.
Psalm 28:3 “Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the
workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in
their hearts.”
It seems that David faced the same type of problems that we
in the world face today. The wicked and workers of iniquity seem always so
strong in their pursuits. Help us, Lord, not to be drawn away from You through
the wickedness that is around us. Bind us tightly to Thy side through Thy cords
of love and truth.
Psalm 28:4 “Give them according to their deeds, and
according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of
their hands; render to them their desert.”
We join with David’s sentiments and pray against today’s
wicked whoever and wherever they may be. In positions of political or military
power, in positions in media, education, science or medicine; in positions of
justice or policing, in political parties or social movements; in churches,
mosques, synagogues or other institutions of worship; even in our own hearts; Lord, we pray against the
wicked and ask You to give them their just reward.
Psalm 28:5 “Because they regard not the works of the Lord,
nor the operations of His hands, He shall destroy them, and not build them up.”
Thus, we pray, Lord, with David. Destroy them that destroy
the earth and refuse to acknowledge You and follow Your way of love and truth.
Bring them low, Lord. Bring them down from their lofty high places that they
might acknowledge and submit to You, the author and finisher of every living
thing.
Psalm 28:6 “Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the
voice of my supplications.”
Thank You, Lord, that You hear us when we pray. When we pour
out our souls unto You, You are mindful and answer and attend to the voice of
our crying.
Psalm 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart
trusts in Him, and I am helped: therefore, my heart greatly rejoices; and with
my song will I praise Him.”
Thank You, Lord, that You are our strength. Without You, we
could do nothing, but with You, all things are possible. We rejoice in You and
in Your power and might and Your supply of all our needs. We praise and give
thanks to You, our Lord, God almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 28:8 “The Lord is their strength, and He is the saving
strength of His anointed.”
Lord, You are our strength. We abide in You and look to You for the strength for today’s battles and trials. Make us overcomers like You
are. Make us more than conquerors. Lead us by Thy right hand that we faint not.
Psalm 28:9 “Save Thy people, and bless thine inheritance:
feed them also, and lift them up for ever.”
Lord, be with us today. Keep us safe under the shadow of Thy
wings. Supply our needs both physically and spiritually. Lift up our heads that
we walk in faith, encouraged, and abiding constantly in Thee. Help us not grieve
Thy Holy Spirit through unbelief. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
