On the Charlestown Shooting

By Dennis Edwards:

Dr. Ellis the famous cosmologists from South Africa when talking on the violence in today’s world said the following: "That's, well, something I have seen in other places, I really want to say here. I think our biggest enemy in all of this is Hollywood. If you turn on the television, within 10 minutes and, absolutely, always, without exception, you will find the cinema TV is teaching people to — the way to solve problems is to kill people. And that is a message which is broadcast to the black people in the townships in my country, sitting there. This is the role model which is offered to them. And what we've got to do is try to make available the alternative models where children learn, from the smallest ages 'til they're adults, that there are other ways to solve this, that there are peaceful solutions, there are ways in which you sit down and try and talk with people. You don't pull out a gun and shoot them, which is what Hollywood is teaching people daily, 24 hours a day. And I really think that is one of the major problems we have at this time. I'm not sure what one does about that." Dr. Ellis worked with Stephen Hawking on the new cosmology for the Big Bang Model. He recently became a Quaker because of their position against violence.

Dylan Storm Roof, the shooter in the Charlestown Shooting, was acting out his evolutionary beliefs of the survival of the fittest. Like Tolstoy said, "If there is no God, then everything is permissible." When Jesus was asked by his disciples about the "signs of his coming" he told them: "As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it also be in the days of the coming of the Son of man."[1] How was it in the "days of Noah?" In Genesis we read, "And the earth was filled with violence,"[2] and "Every imagination in the heart of man was only evil continually."[3] We have forgotten our Maker and are reaping the fruits of atheism, materialism, evolution and relativism. We no longer have an absolute moral compass on which to judge because we have eliminated Him from our thinking, from our education and from our relaxation. "God is dead and we have killed him," like Nietzsche said. "Doesn't it feel colder? Isn't it darker?" These are the fruits of our actions. "We are all guilty! We have all killed Him."[4]

Like David said, "If the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do?"[5] We have destroyed our Christian foundations upon which our nation was built. Like Daniel Webster, who lived from 1782 until 1852, the American orator and Secretary of State for three US Presidents warned, "If there is anything in my thoughts or style to commend, the credit is one to my parents for instilling in me an early love of the Scriptures. If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper, but if we and our posterity neglect its instruction and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity."[6] He also warned, “If religious books are not widely circulated among the masses in this country, I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation. If truth be not diffused, then error will be. If God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendency. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of this land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end.”[7] Need I say more?
