Quote from Father David:
"Wouldn't it have been much more respectable & acceptable for the King of kings to have been born in a palace, with illustrious members of the court in attendance, & with all the honor & praise of the System.--Instead of on the dirty floor of a barn surrounded by cows & donkeys, wrapped in rags & lying in a feed trough, with a motley crew of poor little shepherds kneeling on the floor beside Him?
Wouldn't it have been better for His father to have been a prominent potentate instead of a humble hewer of wood? Wouldn't that have made it easier on Him & His followers, & advanced His work a little more rapidly, to have the approval of the established order? And wasn't that rather humiliating for His humble parents to become fugitives from injustice & flee the country like common criminals for having given birth to the leader of a rival revolutionary religion?
And wouldn't it have been better for Him to have lived a little more decently & acceptably, instead of being born in another man's stable, scrounging His food in other men's fields, & sleeping in other people's houses, & being buried in another man's grave? Did He have to always be challenging the churches, defying convention, destroying traditions, & threatening the religious system?--So that He had to be executed with common criminals, & leave behind the evil reputation of having been a companion of publicans & sinners, a glutton & a winebibber, found too often in the company of drunks & harlots, a lawbreaker, rabble-rouser, disturber of the peace, & false prophet of the wrong way. That's what they called Him!
Couldn't God have used less controversial tactics than that & done it more peaceably & respectably & acceptably? Didn't God make a mistake? To hell with the proper way!"
But no, now it's okay to talk about the love of God, while your lifestyle screams love of self. No-one will question the hypocrisy, because they wish to justify their own egocentrism, greed, & materialism with yours.
But Apostle Paul admonished that those who compare themselves among themselves are not wise. Compare yourself with Jesus and His Word. Those are the models to follow. "If you continue in My word, (and My word continues in you), then are you My disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." John 8:31-32.
"Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded (proud), nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life." 1 Timothy 6:17-19.
"But they that be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition, for the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows, but you, man of God, flee from these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness or gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereupon you are called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses. " 1 Timothy 6:9-12
