The hosts of The View on Tuesday ranted about Catholicism, the Pope and his visit to America. Whoopi Goldberg, offering her thoughts on the faith, complained about Pope Francis discussing abortion: “Well, there’s nothing in the Book that says anything about abortion. Let’s make sure of that. The Ten Commandments are the Ten Commandments. There’s only ten.”
One might argue she forgot the Sixth Commandment: “Thou shall not kill.” Apparently, starring as a nun in Sister Act made Goldberg an expert. The entertainer attempted to explain why some conservatives have issues with the current Pope: “The objection to him, if I may, is that people feel, or some of the staunch Catholics feel that he’s too loose….If you’re gay, God hates you. They want to keep that going.”
Speaking of Pope Francis, Joy Behar sneered, “No matter how compassionate he is, he still follows the rules of the church, anti-choice, anti-birth control, anti-divorce. Women can’t be in the priesthood.”

It was left to new host — and practicing Christian —- Paula Faris to say of Francis: “He’s still standing by his values because he doesn’t think those change. They don’t change with the wind, like the culture does. He’s doing it with compassion.”
As to Goldberg’s claim about the Bible, there’s also Job 31:15: “Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?” and Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”

[Discussing Pope Francis.]
JOY BEHAR: What is the objection to him?
WHOOPI GOLDBERG: The objection to him, if I may, is that people feel, or some of the staunch Catholics feel that he’s too loose. They want to keep it — if you’re a divorced person you can’t get any sacraments. If you’re gay, God hates you. They want to keep that going and I think his feeling is, like, “You’re missing the point. We are a religion that is supposed to be about forgiveness and understanding. If we’re always pointing the figurer and say you don’t matter and you don’t matter, you don’t matter, petty soon won’t nobody matter.
BEHAR: So, when they insinuate religion —
PAULA FARIS: But I still think— I think the overarching word and one word to describe this Pope is compassionate. He still stands about his convictions. He still says the Bible is the same yesterday, today and forever. It does not change and most Christians believe that. The culture can change, our belief system can change. But the one thing that doesn’t change is the word of God. But the way you approach it with Christianity is compassion. And they’ll know your Christians by your love for one another.
…
BEHAR: No matter how compassionate he is, he still follows the rules of the church, anti-choice, anti-birth control, anti-divorce. Women can’t be in the priesthood.
…
FARIS: Joy, I want to come back. You said he’s still pro-life and you listed a couple of other things. But don’t you think what makes him so unique? He’s still standing by his values because he doesn’t think those change. They don’t change with the wind like the culture does. He’s doing it with compassion.
GOLDBERG: Well, there’s nothing in the Book that says anything about abortion. Let’s make sure of that. The Ten Commandments are the Ten Commandments. There’s only ten. Only ten.

Of course, Whoopi doesn't know the Bible very well. She doesn't even seem to remember the ten commandments with the sixth saying, "Thou shalt not kill." Jesus showed that the spirit of the law was love and that all things should be done in love and not according to the letter of the law. God is love and understands the predicament that some woman find themselves in with out a husband and with a child growing within them that they didn't plan for. He understands why they feel the only choice they have is to abort as it seems the easiest and quickest solution. But the pain and sorrow they suffer later as their conscience bears down on them is hard to avoid. Some may be capable of searing their conscience with a hot iron so they do not feel any more as Paul predicted. The famous English Commander Montgomery at 88 years needed to talk to one of his old friends before his death because of his guilty conscience. He was going to face God shortly and what could he say to justify the deaths of all those English boys in the war with Germany? How could he justify his actions to God, actions that led to the death of the lives of thousands of men? His guilty conscience and the closeness of death brought a different perspective than he had as a young or middle-aged military commander. It made him seek God. Had he gotten it right? Had he gotten it wrong? In the book of Jeremiah we read about "the blood of the poor innocents." God says he didn't find it in secret places but openly. The people of those days had a different form of abortion, they called it "passing their children through the fire," to the God Molech, the god of wealth and prosperity. If they would sacrifice their children to the god, he would give them the blessing of wealth they desired. Today are methods are more sophisticated, but the result is the same, a child's life is ended. We have figured out how to do it before the child is born so that it is more acceptable, more scientific and out of sight, out of mind. But God sees and our conscience sees. Ultimately it was Israel's sin of filling Jerusalem with the blood of the poor innocents that caused God to allow them to be overthrown by the Babylonian Empire. The Babylonians did not practise infanticide like the Canaanites whom the Lord had admonished Israel to remove from the land. The Lord warned Israel that the Canaanites would affect negatively if Israel coexisted with them, which is exactly what happened. Jesus also said when asked about the future, "the love of many shall wax cold." Our love has hardened and we feel no mercy or conviction to save the innocent blood of the unborn child. Our social services should offer methods for a young pregnant woman to get counsel, love, protection and the benefits she needs so that she can give the child to a caring facility or have the necessary support group to raise it herself. Since many of the children aborted are from potentially "poor" families, we feel better off as a society without them. But God is looking down and lovingly weeps for each of his unborn creations. he lovingly weeps because of the hardness of our hearts to one another, our hardness to the weakest member of our society, an unborn child. Jesus said, "As you do it unto one of the least of these, you have done it unto Me." He said we would be better off dead than to offend one of the little ones. The "Pro-Choice" have forgotten that the baby has a choice. Maybe the right choice to have made was to not have sex in the first place if you will not take the consequences seriously. If you are having sex, you may get pregnant whether you want to or not. It seems to me, that these modern medical methods that enable us to kill the new life within us are just as wrong in the sight of God as the methods of our forefathers Whoopie, "Thou shalt not kill," goes for those little bitty babies also. It's in the Book if you took the time to read it and let it speak to your heart!
