God’s Mercy Upon the Repentant Remnant of Israel
In the remaining verses in Ezekiel the Lord mentions the
history of Israel’s rebelliousness and their new found repentance and God’s
mercy upon them.
Ezekiel 39:23-29 “And the heathen shall
know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because
they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them
into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. According
to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto
them, and hid my face from them. Therefore thus saith
the Lord God; Now
will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house
of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; After
that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have
trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them
afraid. When I have brought them again from the
people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in
them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they
know that I am the Lord their
God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have
gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. Neither
will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon
the house of Israel, saith the Lord God.”
As we have seen in Zechariah 12:10 God pours “upon the
house of David, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of
supplications (prayers): and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced,
and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness
for Him, as one that is in bitterness (or weeping) for his firstborn.”
Israel will come to repentance and accept Christ. As a result,
Zechariah 14:3-9 “Then shall the LORD go
forth, and fight against those nations, (that have gathered together against
Jerusalem, the Antichrist and his forces), as when He fought in the day of battle. And His feet shall stand in
that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.…and the LORD my
God shall come, and all the saints with Thee. And it shall come to pass in that
day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: but it shall be one day which
shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that
at evening time it shall be light. And it shall be in that day that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea (Mediterranean), and half of them toward the hinder sea (Dead): in the summer and in the winter shall it be. And the Lord shall be king over all the
earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and His name one.”
When Jesus returns with the saints at the Battle of Armageddon his feet shall come down on the Mount of Olives where he was crucified. What a fitting triumphant entry to take power from where He was humiliated. All the world will know that He is God. Thus, the world will enter that beautiful Millennium period, a period where God continues to woo and win the lost to Himself in His effort to bring as many as He can to voluntary salvation.
Another interesting point in the prophecy is that "living waters" will flow from Jerusalem toward Gaza and into the Mediterranean Sea, and toward the west bank Palestinian camps and into the Dead Sea. We remember that the plagues of both the Great Tribulation period and the 75 days of the Wrath of God had affected the seas. God in His mercy immediately begins to restore the planet and send "living waters" to the areas where the Palestinians are presently living. God's love is for all peoples and His mercy endures forever.
Let us therefore “serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with
trembling. Let us kiss the Son, lest He be angry and we perish from the way,
when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their
trust in Him.” Psalm 2:11-12.
Revelation 16:15 “Behold, I come as a
thief. Blessed is he that watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked,
and they see his shame.”
