Is the Passing of the Comet a Sign That the End is Near?

Dennis Edwards

Speculation has been swirling around about the destruction of America because of a comet that is going to fly by planet earth on its way around the sun sometime in the beginning of October. In 1973-74 a lot of excitement was in the air because the passing of Comet Kohoutek. It was forecast to be brighter than the sun. However, the comet turned out to be a dud. It couldn’t be easily seen with the naked eye as was predicted. In the end, the world didn’t come to an end as some had prophesized.

Throughout history man has looked to the night sky and anticipated the future according to any new stars or comets that appeared. The book of Genesis reveals that on the fourth day of Creation, God made “lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” Genesis 1:14.

In the book of Job, one of the oldest books in the Bible, tells the history of Job and his many problems. Job would have lived around the time of Abraham or 2,000 BC. The book of Job is basically a theological study on the question of “Why do bad things happen to seemingly good people?” Job and his friends debate the question in the face of Job’s misfortune. In the end, God Himself enters the conversation and declares, “Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season or can you guide Arcturus with his sons?” Job 38:31-32.

God is asking Job if Job can influence the astrological star signs seen in the heavens and control their effect on mankind. The different stars signs are seen in the heavens during different times of the year and in a sense forecast what the next months will bring, summer, fall, winter, or spring. For thousand of years during mankind’s agrarian cultural period, men used the stars to help them know when to plant their seed corn and when to harvest. Until recently these dates were often written down in an Almanac which the farmers would precure to help them follow the signs in the heavens as they brought in the next season.

We know that the astral bodies do have an effect on us. Even our words reveal a knowledge or belief that the astral bodies have an influence on us. The word lunacy, for example, which means madness or insanity, comes from the Latin word for moon, which in “luna.” Mental and emotional diseases were thought to be caused by the influence of the moon. We have the word lunatic, as another example.

On the dark side, astrologers tried to predict the future through their careful study of the stars and the signs in the heavens. In the book of Daniel, we see Nebuchadnezzar calling the astrologers together demanding them to tell him his forgotten dream and its meaning. Read Daniel 2:1-9. With the help of God, Daniel is able to discover the dream and give the king its interpretation. Read Daniel 2:25-30.

From time memorial Kings have had astrologers in their court as counsellors. Even Jesus’ birth was forecast by a comet that moved in the sky and was seen by the wise men from the East. Read Matthew 2:1-14. Jesus even commended the Pharisees for their understanding of the weather by the night sky, but He derided them for not understanding the signs of the times. Matthew 16:3.

God, of course, has warned about worshipping the sun, moon, and stars, the works of His hands. In the Old Testament, God says He is a jealous God, a consuming fire, and does not want His workmanship, you and me, to lift up our eyes to the heaven, to the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven to worship them. Read Deuteronomy 4:24 & 19. We are to look to the Lord and His word for understanding of the signs of the times, not to the stars, or any other source of so-called hidden knowledge.

It is recorded in the book of Acts how the brethren in Berea searched the scriptures daily for understanding. Read Acts 17:11. The tribe of Issachar in the Old Testimony were noted for their understanding. 1 Chronicles 12:32. In Amos 3:7 we read, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing but He reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets.” Even Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would give us warning and show us things to come. Read John 16:13.

Therefore, when we hear that a comet is coming and it could proport to bring the end of the world, where should we look? We need to seek the Lord and His face and dig into His word. Read Psalm 119: 97-100. “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105. Isaiah has warned, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20.

Nevertheless, ancient man did come to the conclusion that comets were forewarnings or harbingers of future catastrophic events. An Old German poem from the 1600s goes like this:

“Eight things there be a Comet brings,

When it on high doth horrid range;

Wind, Famine, Plague, and Death to Kings,

War, Earthquake, Floods and Direful Change.”

Following are some excerpts from a google search concerning comets of the past.

In the winter of 1664, a comet seen in the winter sky was interpreted as an omen of evil to come. “For those living in England, the comet in the winter sky of 1664 seemed to announce the last major outbreak of bubonic plague to occur in that country, which killed 100,000 people in London over 18 months of 1665-6, and the Great Fire of London in 1666, which destroyed more than 13,000 homes, 87 parish churches, and St. Paul’s Cathedral.”

“In ancient history we find these results: Two hundred and eighty-eight years after the great Deluge, Noah’s Flood, according to the records of the Chaldean star gazers, there appeared another Comet. This is the date, computed by Stanislaus Lubienitius, for the building of the Tower of Babel and the confusion of tongues.

Two thousand and sixty-four years before Christ, another Comet appeared, as recorded by the Chaldeans. This is the date given for the birth of Abraham. When Abraham was seventy years old, in the year 1949 B. C., a Comet was seen shining over the Valley of Siddim for twenty-two nights. This is the date given by Bible historians for the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the two cities of iniquity which lay in the Vale of Siddim.”

The ancients considered visible comets as omens of evil times ahead. Understandably, people in the seventeenth century often turned to scripture and their ministers for guidance.

“On January 20, 1681 (by the Julian calendar), 41-year-old Boston Reverend Increase Mather delivered a sermon on Lecture Day about the Great Comet of 1680, titled “HEAVEN’S ALARM TO THE WORLD OR A SERMON, wherein is showed, That Fearful Sights and Signs in Heaven, are the PRESAGES of great CALAMITIES at hand.” In this sermon, Reverend Mather noted, “As for the Blazing Star, which has occasioned this present Discourse, it was a terrible sight indeed, especially about the middle of December last, the stream of such a stupendous magnitude, as that few men now living ever beheld the like.”

Mather also spoke of the history of comets over the years, saying there were 11 known sightings before the birth of Jesus Christ and 158 more in the 1,680 years since.  “Concerning those admirable; and amazing works of God, which are by us called Comets…,” Mather said; “Many times such fearful Sights are tokens of God’s Anger; which is another Reason why they are called Signs, as being Signs of the Anger of God.” The Bible also describes celestial occurrences as harbingers of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, such as this from Luke 21: 11 – “And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” And from Luke 21:31 – “So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.”

“However, not all believed these comets were dark omens. Forty-five years later. Increase Mather’s son, Reverend Cotton Mather, cautioned people about reading too much into these “fearful sights and great signs.” By 1726, he wrote, “Perhaps there may be some need for me to caution you against being dismayed at the signs of the heavens, or having any superstitious fancies upon eclipses or the like . . . I am willing that you be apprehensive of nothing portentous in blazing stars. For my part, I know not whether all the worlds, and even the sun itself, may not fare the better for them.”

“Another famous name from the Salem witchcraft trials is Thomas Brattle, remembered for his October 8, 1692 “letter to an unnamed clergyman,” condemning the processes used during the trials. He was one of the few sceptics to raise objections at the time, regarding the method of finding the “witches” guilty. Perhaps Brattle’s was sceptical because he was a natural scientist and critical thinker. Born into a wealthy Boston family in 1658, Brattle graduated from Harvard, and studied for some years after Harvard in England, where he knew the greatest scholars of the day, among them John Flamsteed, who was appointed the first royal astronomer by Charles II in 1675.

“It was for his keen observation of a comet moving toward the sun and then moving away from the sun that Thomas Brattle helped influence Isaac Newton’s law of gravitation and for which Brattle is remembered in history. Known for his careful observations of all manner of events, Brattle is credited with influencing Isaac Newton’s law of gravitation. Brattle, as an astronomer, was one of the New England observers of the Great Comet of 1680. He and fellow New Englander John Foster noted the comet’s arrival and disappearance in November, and then its return in December and January.

“The astonishing aspect of their observations was that they correctly believed that the two sightings were of the same comet that had passed around the sun. Only the royal astronomer, John Flamsteed in London, came to a similar conclusion. Not even Isaac Newton believed that the comet had changed direction until he was convinced by Flamsteed. Brattle’s revelation was a factor in Newton’s development of universal gravitation.” Brattle forwarded his data to England, it was read by Edmund Halley, who then sent it on to Newton. This led to Brattle’s observations being cited in Newton’s Principia, one of the most important works in the history of science.” Comet Lore: Halley’s Comet in History and Astronomy, by Edwin Emerson, London, 1910.

“Though today, comets are no longer viewed as a cosmic sign or harbinger of ill tidings, they do still put much into perspective. In the twentieth-first century, just as in the seventeenth, witnessing a rare cosmological event is awe-inspiring.”

According to the NASA website, “Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the Sun. When frozen, they are the size of a small town. When a comet’s orbit brings it close to the Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets. The dust and gases form a tail that stretches away from the Sun for millions of miles.” End of google excerpts.

As often is the case, many doomsayers are predicting that some catastrophic event will take place from October as again a comet is scheduled to pass by the earth. It may or may not be seen by naked eye. Some are predicting the destruction of America. They are going to the Scriptures and using them to reinforce the idea that the comet that will pass by in the next few days could be one of the astral events predicted in Bible prophecy for the last days just prior to Jesus’ return to the earth.

We are going to take a look at this idea and the Scriptures being used to justify it to see if it indeed holds up under scrutiny and is in line with the Biblical predictions.

Luke 21:25-28 below, is one of the sections of Scriptures being used to confirm that the comet that will pass in the next week could have been referred to by Jesus when He made His prophecy about the end of the secular.

“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

From these verses, we can deduct that Jesus surely said that there would be signs in the heavens before His promised Second Coming.  We are at a moment in history with a lot of anxiety as shone in the section, “men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth.” Therefore, this section of the verse rings true to us. US elections are coming up. We have war in Ukraine boarding on bringing us to nuclear destruction. We have a situation in the Middle East that likewise could explode or escalate into Armageddon. Heart attacks are one of the most frequent causes of death. Fear and stress cause anxiety and we hear of a comet coming and some preachers predicting that it is the fulfilment of Bible prophecy. What shall we do?

Jesus in the above passage gives us counsel. He says, when these things begin to come to pass, look up, because your redemption draws nigh. We need to lift up our heads to Jesus and draw nigh to Him. We need to search the Scriptures to see if these things are so. However, the general sense of Scripture is that we are moving down the road toward Jesus second coming. Do the Scriptures give us any other clues so that we can use to discern the signs of the times?

Another section of verses that is being used is to prove the comet is a warning from God of the end is Revelation 6:12-13. “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.”

Those using this section as proof say that the passing of the comet will cause a great meteorite shower from the tail of the comet and lead to the end of America and the world. However, if one has a good understanding of Bible prophecy, and knows the timeline of events that must take place before the coming of Christ, we would not be so easily swayed by this argument. Apostle Paul warns us not to be carried about with every wind of doctrine. To explain the timeline of events here would take quite a Bible study. I will leave a link to another article on the subject at the end of the article. But let us analyse Revelation 6 where the above verses are found.

Revelation 6 shows a panoramic view of the history of the world from the time of Christ to the wrath of God. The famous six seals are opened by Jesus revealing the future events. Here’s where we find the infamous four horsemen of the Apocalypse. As Jesus opens a seal, a horse goes forth. The first four seals are the white horse, the red horse, the black horse, and the pale horse. Each horse represents the spiritual forces going forth onto the earth. Some scholars believe the white horse represent Christianity, while others believe it represents an imitation of Christ, and therefore, the Antichrist. Those that take that view believe the horses will not come forth in their fury until the time of the end. Others believe the horses have been riding since the time of Jesus’ ascension into to heaven where he was found worthy to open the seals. Read Revelation 5:1-10.

The red horse symbolises the spiritual force in the world that causes men to prepare and go to war, and could include men’s violence one to another. The black horse represents the spiritual force behind the unjust economic or financial system where we find great riches beside great poverty. The pale horse represents all other forms of death as a result of the other horses. These are the first four seals found in Revelation 6:1-8.

When the fifth seal is opened, we find “the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: and they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, do You not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?” They are told to rest or wait a little longer, “until their fellow-servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.” Revelation 6:9-11.

These verses are similar to many other spoken by Jesus, the Apostles Paul, Peter, and John about the persecution that the followers Jesus would receive throughout history, but especially just prior to Jesus’ return.

The next seal that is opened, the sixth seal, is the section which was quoted above, as indicating that the comet that will pass now in October was predicted in Bible prophecy. Let’s read it again. Revelation 6:12-13, “I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind.”

What most people don’t understand is that Chapter 6 of Revelation is panoramic. We see the history of the world from the time that Christ opens the seals on His ascension to the wrath of God that includes the Battle of Armageddon at the end of the present dispensation. Revelation 6 is like a preview of the events that will follow. The sixth seal is actually a preview of the 7th vial of the Wrath of God found in Revelation 16 at the very end of the wrath period. The Wrath is just prior to the Millennium, the 1,000-year reign of Christ on earth. Jesus is giving us a look forward. A flash-forward is sometimes used in cinema photography at the beginning of a movie. We get a short glimpse of some future event that will take place later in the movie. If we compare Revelation 6:14-17 with Revelation 16:17-21, we see that they seem to be talking about the same event. The verses in Revelation 6 seem to be giving us a forecast of what will happen in Revelation 16.

Revelation 6:14-17. “Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”

Now let’s look out Revelation 16:14-17.  Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.  And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

In Revelation 6:14 it says “every mountain and island was moved out of its place.” In Revelation 16:20 we read, “Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.” These verses seem to be talking about the same event. The section “Then the sky receded as a scroll when is rolled up,” seems to coincide with, “It is done,” including the great earthquake that takes place at the same time. Both passages seem to be talking of such a cataclysmic shaking of the continental plates of the earth, that the islands disappear and the mountains are flattened. It seems ludicrous to believe that would happen twice during a short approximately 3–4-year period. It's more logical to see it as talking about the same event.

The question we are asking is, are these events about to happen now? A good understanding of Bible Prophecy will help us to discern the facts and come to a solid Biblical conclusion. Are we getting ready for the wrath of God right now?

The short answer is no. The wrath of God is not just now. However, we could be rapidly moving toward the period of the Great Tribulation that precedes the Wrath of God. Let’s look at the signs Jesus gave us so that we would be prepared for His coming and see how today’s events fit with Jesus’ warning signs. We need to go to Matthew 24.

Read Matthew 24:1-5. The first thing we notice is that Jesus predicted the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, King Herod’s Temple. The Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 AD, some 40 years after Jesus’ prophecy. In verse 3 Jesus is asked about “the signs of His coming and the end of the world.” He goes on and answers with the first warning, “Be careful that you are not deceived.” Deception is the first sign Jesus gives us and warns us to be weary of. We are certainly in an age of deception and censorship. We see governments controlling the hearts and minds of their populations through the new technological inventions such as radio, television, and internet.

Scotland’s Alan Watt whose brother was a member of MI6 in England warned some years ago, “Never watch television. Never watch television. It’s the greatest scientific indoctrination tool ever devised. Have you figured that out? It has changed the whole culture of nations, not just one nation. Why do you think it was mandatory that everyone have access to television in Britain by the government? Why do you think China is under the same program right now? Because they love to be entertained? Do you believe that? Most of your ideas and opinions come from television, because you mimic what you see. Never watch television. You can’t even watch a movie unless you do it critically.”

We are living in a time where deception is rampant and we cry out, “Where or what is the truth?” Thank God for us we have found the truth in Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. His word is true and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. We can use His word to pull down imaginations and every false idea and bring our own thoughts into obedience to the word of God. His word is the sword of the spirit which we use to contend for the truth against the lies. Jesus said, “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.” Luke 21:15. In Isaiah we read also, “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me.” Isaiah 54:17

We won’t be deceived, if we walk diligently with our Lord. He has promised to keep us from the temptation that shall be upon the whole world, if we keep the word of His patience and don’t lose faith. Revelation 3:10.

Matthew 24:6-8 “And you will hear of wars and rumours of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

Jesus is warning that wars would come, but we shouldn’t let them trouble us, as if the end is nigh. He warns of famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in many places. All these are just the beginning of sorrows and troubles that the world will pass through before His second coming.

Matthew 24:9-10. “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.”

Remember the souls of those that were slain for the word of God under the altar in Revelation 6. They were told to wait a little longer until their “brethren that should be killed as they were should be fulfilled.” Since the time of Christ to the present Christian martyrs have suffered at the hands of their enemies and continue to do so even in such as a so-called enlightened age as today.

Matthew 24:11 “And many false prophets shall arise, and shall deceive many.” Jesus second warning of deception. Many will be deceived. As a result, they will persecute the followers of God. They will kill us, thinking they are doing God a service.

Matthew 24:12-13. “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure until the end, the same shall be saved.” We have seen iniquity increase during our lifetime. Men’s hearts have gotten colder from constantly seeing and hearing of the terrible happenings around the world on television and internet. Our ability to know what’s going on has caused us to be confronted with man’s inhumanity to man, so that we have lost hope. We have become hardened.

Matthew 24:14. “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” The Gospel has definitely been preached in all the world. The program The Chosen, Mel Gibson’s film The Passion of Christ have been aired to much of the world.

However, the next verse is the key verse and the main item or sign that Jesus said to watch out for.

Matthew 24:15. “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso reads, let him understand:)…

Matthew 24:21-22. “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”

Jesus tells us the main sign to look for is something called the “abomination of desolation” spoken of by Daniel the prophet. Therefore, to understand what Jesus is talking about, we have to understand or be knowledgeable of prophecies of Daniel, especially those dealing with the “abomination of desolation.” I have discussed this question elsewhere. To be very brief, many Christians believe a world pact or agreement or covenant will be initiated for a 7-year period.

Some believe that the pact will give the Palestinians statehood of some kind. In exchange, Israel will be able to renew sacrificial worship on the Temple Mount. Half way through the 7-year period, the Antichrist will invade Israel, stop the sacrifice, and set up the abomination of desolation. Thus begins the 3 & ½ years of Great Tribulation. See Daniel 9:27, Daniel 8:13-14, Daniel 11:30-32, for verses on “the abomination that makes desolate.” With the recent United Nations conference and its Pact for the Future, we see the United Nations is moving in the direction of forming a World Government under their auspices and a covenant like we have mentioned could be made.

The trumpets of tribulation found in Revelation 8-10 cover the Great Tribulation period. During the Great Tribulation the various trumpets will sound in the spiritual world and as a result, terrifying events will take place on earth. Some preachers are quoting the events that occur during the Tribulation period and are saying the passing of the comet and its after effects, could be what the Scripture is indicating. Revelation 8:8 says, that the second angel sounded and “as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood.” “A great mountain burning with fire” could be a great meteor hitting the earth. But the timing of the event is off as we have not entered the tribulation period as the covenant has not been broken, nor has the abomination of desolation been set up.

Revelation 8:10 says, “And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from the heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters.” Some modern-day speculators have been saying that since USA is a continent of many rivers, that this verse forecasts America’s destruction by an asteroid or comet. They may be right. However, the Great Tribulation has not started yet, because we have not seen the “abomination of desolation” stand in the holy place, which many scholars believe will be Mount Moriah in Jerusalem where the mosque of Omar now stands. Again, the timing is off.

In Revelation 9:1, we read, "the 5th angel sounded his trumpet and I saw a star fall frrom heaven unto the earth, and to HIM was given the keys of the bottomless pit." Is the star mentioned in verse 9:1 an actual star, or is it referring to a spiritual being? In Luke 10:18, Jesus saod, "I behold Satan as lightning fall from heaven," In Job 38:7, God is talking to Job about the creation event and say, "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy." What does, "the morning stars sang together," mean?

"When the morning stars sang together," is referring to some intelligent beings who existed before the creation of the visible heavens and earth: and it is supposed that this and the following clause refer to the same beings; that by the sons of God, and the morning stars, the angelic host is meant." (Google search) The star in Revelation 9:1 may be referring to a spiritual being of some kind and not an actual star or meteorite or asteroid.

All these events will come to pass before the coming of the Lord in the clouds which takes place at the seventh trumpet at the end of the Great Tribulation. We read that in Matthew 24:29-31.  “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.  And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”

We also hear amazing events taking place in the heavens. Whether the stars actually fall, or whether they won’t be able to be seen for some reason, such as nuclear fall-out, remains to be seen. But it is during the Great Tribulation period where some 1/3 of the earth’s population may be destroyed, see Revelation 9:15. However, that verse could be a forecast of what will take place during the wrath of God. When ever it occurs, it's quite a few people and could represent much of the population in the Northern Hemisphere. The happy ending is that immediately after the tribulation of those days, Jesus will come back to rapture His elect to the heavenly places.

In Apostle Paul’s writings, he tells us that the coming of the Lord won’t take place until the man of sin, the son of perdition, the Antichrist, has been revealed. Let’s read from 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. “Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The day Apostle Paul is talking about, is the day of the Lord’s coming and our gathering together unto Him. Read 2 Thessalonians 2:1.

Just like Jesus has said that the Antichrist must come first, so Apostle Paul reminds us that Christ’s coming will not take place until first the Antichrist is revealed. Paul has him “sitting in the temple of God showing himself that he is God.” Some scholars believe that verse is an indication that a third Temple will be built in Jerusalem. The Temple Institute in Jerusalem is preparing for such an event.

What conclusion should we come to from the passing of the present comet? Is it a sign of the end and the destruction of USA? It may very well be a sign of warning from God. But let’s not jump ahead and say it will be the destruction of America. The prophecies concerning the “mountain burning with fire” and “the star falling from heaven” found in Revelation 8 & 9 take place during the Great Tribulation period. According to Scripture we need a signing of and breaking of an international 7-year agreement called the Covenant before such events will take place. Was the recent United Nations Pact of the Future the 7-year agreement? It remains to be seen. See Following article: https://fightforyourfaith.blogspot.com/2024/09/moving-toward-7-year-biblical-pact.html

The Biblical pact or covenant will give permission to the Jewish people to resume sacrificial worship on the Temple Mount some eight months after its signing. Daniel 8:13-14. We believe it will also give some type of statehood to Palestine, but we can't prove it. Let’s wait and see what develops. But yes, we definitely seem to be moving closer to the fulfilment of the Biblical prophecies of the end. We would be wise to make community with others and, if possible, have access to a place of refuge far from the cities of the world where most of the chaos will result. The most important preparation however is spiritual in opening our lives to Jesus and learning to love and follow Him daily. Then you won’t have to worry whatever happens, because you’ll be His forever. He promises to be with you until the end of the world. Matthew 28:20. “In the world you shall have tribulation. But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.

Will the comet bring the eight woes of the poets? “Wind, Famine, Plague, and Death to Kings, War, Earthquakes, Floods and Direful Change,” Even if it does, we will not fear. God has forewarned us and given us innumerable promises in His word to hold onto. In Psalm 46:1-3 we read, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” Likewise in Isaiah 43:2, we find, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you.” Psalm 91 is called the Psalm of protection. Memorize it and fear not, because the Lord has said, “I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deut. 31:8.
