We have all been attacked by the enemy before. Whether it was physically or mentally, it affects us in some negative way. Without God, it's like going into battle without armour. The Bible and the helmet of salvation can be our best defence against our enemies.
Evil comes in many shapes and forms, and in the Bible the Apostle John warned us to not believe every spirit we hear because they may be evil. The more we read the Bible the more we can discern the truth from error. It would be easier if we could see the foe all the time, but unfortunately we cannot. We must test or try the spirits to see if they are truly of God. Easier said than done, but it is always good to be aware.
Below are some Bible verses to help overcome attacks from the enemy:
Revelation 12:11: "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death." [Dennis: Here's the attitude of an overcomer. He puts his whole trust in Jesus' sacrificial death and therefore preaches his faith in all he does and says, even to the death.]
Ephesians 6:11-17: "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." [Dennis: Jesus used the Word of God to resist the Devil. Quote God's Word to the Devil and he will flee. The Devil can't stand the Word of God, so use it as your most powerful weapon in prayer and in speech.]
1 John 4:1-3 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know we the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is the spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that should come; and even now already is it in the world." [Be careful of those who deny Jesus is Lord.]
2 Corinthians 11:13-14: "For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve." [We need to pray from discernment so that we are not deceived by the false apostles. Learning and studying God's Word helps us to have the discernment that we need. Apostle Paul said we should pray for discernment because it is a gift of the Holy Spirit.]
Hebrews 4:12 "For the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart." [Learn God's Word and it will help you to discern other's spiritual condition, and if they are for God or against Him.]
2 Corinthians 4:3-4: "And even if our Gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." [If we reject God, the enemy is allowed to deceive us and cloud our mind from understanding the truth.]
2 Corinthians 2:11: "In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes." [Reading and studying God's Word helps us to become more aware of the Devils wiles.]
James 4:7 "Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the Devil and He will flee from you." [You cannot resist the Devil yourself, he's too strong for you. By submitting yourself to God you are empowered by the Holy Spirit to resist the Devil with the Word of God.]
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) [those spiritual strong holds are in our hearts and minds, that is why we need to do the following:] Casting down imaginations [ideas or thoughts in our mind that are contrary to God's Word or character found in Jesus], and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God [again every contrary idea or philosophy that contradicts God and His Word and or the character of Jesus], and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
