Psalm 63 - Thirsting for God

 

Psalm 63  KJV Commentary by Dennis Edwards

Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsts for thee, my flesh longs for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is.

Thirsting for God is a reoccurring theme throughout the Scriptures.

In Psalm 42:1-2 we find, “As the hart pants after the water brooks, so pants my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”

In Psalm 143:6, I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsts after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.

In 1 Samuel 1:10, we see Hannah praying in bitterness of soul while she wept sore. She is thirsting for God that He respond to her bitterness of soul of being barren.

In Daniel 10:2-3, we find Daniel in prayer and fasting in search of forgiveness for God’s people. “In those days, I Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till these whole weeks were finished.”

In Isaiah 55:1-3a, God calls the thirsty to Himself. “Ho, every one that thirsts, come ye to the waters, and he that has no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfies not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live.”

It is in hearing God word, God’s truth, that gives us strength to carry on.

In Isaiah 41:17-18, we again have the imagery of being thirsty and hungry. God promises to fulfil are physical and spiritual needs. “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.”

In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5:6, Jesus said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”

To the Samaritan woman at the well Jesus spoke of quenching the spiritual thirst we have.

John 4:13-14 “Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

In Capernaum Jesus spoke to the masses that followed Him.

John 6:35 ^“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst.”

At the feast of the tabernacles in Jerusalem Jesus said to the people.

John 7:37b-38a “If any man thirst, let him come to Me, and drink. He that believes on Me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spoke He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)”

The Feast of Tabernacles was celebrated by building temporary shelters, waving the lulav and etrog, and, traditionally, a daily water-drawing ceremony.

The lulav and etrog were central symbols of the Jewish holiday of Tabernacles, representing the "Four Species" waved to celebrate the fall harvest and symbolize unity. The lulav is a bundle of palm, willow, and myrtle branches, while the etrog is a citron fruit; they are shaken in six directions to represent God's presence.

Priests would draw water from the Pool of Siloam and carried it to the Temple to pour upon the altar. The act symbolized thanksgiving for the present harvest, and prayers for rain for future harvests

The Water-Drawing Ceremony took place for seven days. A golden pitcher was filled with water at the Pool of Siloam and brought in a joyous procession to the Temple's Water Gate.

The priests poured the water, along with wine, onto the altar. This ritual reached its peak on the final day, known as Hoshana Raba. The Talmud describes this ceremony with extreme joy, with people dancing with torches. It was a time to pray for winter rains and for the Holy Spirit’s presence throughout the land. Jesus used the context of this ceremony to declare Himself the source of "living water.” [1]

The thirsting for God is also seen in our desperation in prayer. Apostle Paul said we should approach God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. If we do, Paul says, God will send His peace which passes understanding into our hearts.

In Jeremiah we see the same formula of desperation, of thirsting.

Jeremiah 29:13 “You shall seek Me and find Me when you shall search for Me with all your heart.”

In the last book of the Bible Jesus promises to fulfil the thirst we have for truth, for peace, for unconditional love, for God.

Revelation 21:6-7 “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be My son.”

Those that have hungered and thirsted for righteousness, for truth, for God, shall find Him.

Psalm 63:2-3 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

When we find God, when we have the experience with the Holy Spirit, and are baptise with the power of love, all we want to do is love everybody. All we want to do is share the good news we have found in Jesus with the world.

Psalm 63:4-5 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

When in our search for truth, in search for the source of love, when finally, we find God, our hearts and mouths are filled with praise and thanksgiving. We have found the source of life. We have found our way out of darkness. The day star, Jesus, has risen in our hearts, and all we can do is praise Him. David sings, “Restore unto me the joy of my salvation,” i.e., the joy we experience in being saved, in finding God.

Psalm 63:6-7 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

David remembers God when he is unable to sleep, or needs to stay awake as a guard in the night. He uses the frequent imagery of being a chick under the protecting wing of its mother hen.

Psalm 63:8 My soul follows hard after thee: thy right hand upholds me.

Moses told the children of Israel that they should not cleave unto the gods of the world, the culture around them. He told them to cleave unto the Lord.

Deuteronomy 10:20-21 “Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. He is your praise, and He is your God, that has done for you these great and terrible things, which your eyes have seen."

Deuteronomy 11:22-24a “ For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him. Then will the Lord drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall possess greater nations and mightier nations than yourselves. Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours.”

Deuteronomy 13:4 “You shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cleave unto him.”

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live. That you may love the Lord your God, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cleave unto him: for he is your life, and the length of your days: that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore unto your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Joshua gave the children of Israel the same commands and warnings.

Joshua 23:6-8 "Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them: But cleave unto the Lord your God, as ye have done unto this day."

Joshua 23:12-13 “Else if you do in any wise go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even these that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unto them, and they to you:  Know for a certainty that the Lord your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.”

We need to make sure we are cleaving unto the Lord, and not unto the culture around us.

Psalm 63:9-10 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth. They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.

God has promised to protect the righteous. We are the apple of His eye. Those that rise up against us shall not go unpunished. "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God," Psalm 9:17.

Psalm 63:11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that swears by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

David could be talking of his future position as king, and of his rejoicing in God. David could also be referring to that future King, the Messiah, the longed for promised King that will bring peace on earth to all men everywhere.

In Isaiah we find the Lord saying, “Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have sworn by Myself, the word is gone out of My mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto Me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to Him shall men come; and all that are incensed against Him shall be ashamed,” Isaiah 45:22-24.

Apostle Pauls uses that same imagery to declare, “That at the name of JESUS every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father,” Philippians 2:10-11.

“But the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.” Satan is the father of lies and shall have his place in the lake of fire and brimstone along with all liars, which is the second death, Revelation 20:11 & 21:8. The mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

Faith in the Lord's Righteousness - Psalm 11

Psalm 11:1 In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?

Dennis: That’s how we feel. We want to flee from the problems we see in the world. We wish we could go away some where and hide from it all.

Psalm 11:2 For look! The wicked bend their bow, They make ready their arrow on the string, That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.

It seems all around us that it is difficult for honest people to get a platform. If you do not uphold the opinion of those in power you are hunted and persecuted.

Psalm 11:3 If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?

They have been destroying the foundations of faith in God for centuries. The French tried it in the late 1700s and ended up with the Bloody Reign of Terror where 17,000 were guillotined in a period of 11 months. Charles Lyle and Charles Darwin did their part in the 1800s in England. Lyle’s theory gave us millions of years of geological time, while Darwin’s theory gave us molecule to man evolution. Britain, that once great nation, lost her moral authority as she abandoned God and her civilization soon came to nought.

Daniel Webster, Secretary of State to three of the first US Presidents, said, “If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper, but if we or our posterity neglect its instruction and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”

Psalm 11:4 The Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men.

God is watching and we will not go unpunished. We will reap what we have sown. He tests us to see if we will believe His word and follow Him even though all those around us seem to be ignoring Him.

Psalm 11:5 The Lord tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.

God’s word says that God is angry with the wicked every day. One day the judgment will come. Sudden destruction will come and we will not escape.

Psalm 11:6 Upon the wicked He will rain coals; Fire and brimstone and a burning wind Shall be the portion of their cup.

In the last days, God will judge the wicked. For 3 ½ years the righteous will be persecuted by the wicked and many of the righteous will be imprisoned and killed. At the end of that great period of tribulation, those 42 months, or 1,260 days, Christ shall return in the clouds and catch away His bride in that supernatural event called the Rapture. That period of tribulation is found in Revelation 8-10 and parts of Revelation 11,12, and 13.

The wicked shall chastise the just while God will rain down plagues upon the wicked. Immediately after the tribulation of those days where a terrible 1/3 destruction of life on earth has taken place, Jesus will appear in the clouds to save His own. The wicked and unbelievers, however, will not repent. For some 75 days God will rightly rain on them the Vials of Wrath found in Revelation 6:12-17, 11:18, 14:18-20, 15:7-8, 16:1-21 18:1-23, 19:11-21. The wicked shall be turned into hell and all the nations that forget God.

Psalm 11:7 For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

The meek and the poor of the earth will finally see their righteous God give to the wicked what they have deserved for so long. The Bible says, though mercy be shown to the wicked, yet will he not learn righteousness. Isaiah 26:10. God has been patient, giving the wicked time to repent. In the end, God will be justified in His righteous judgments against the wicked as He was justified in sending the great Flood that killed all humanity except Noah, or in His righteous judgment of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

For a thousand years Christ will rule on earth in righteousness and love spending even more time to give those that survived those terrible days a chance to change and accept His loving rule. But we don’t have to wait until then. Today is the day of salvation. Call upon the Lord today, while He may be found, before the horrendous days of great tribulation are upon us.

Prayer: Jesus, I sense something bad is coming down the tubes. I know I can’t make it in my own strength. I have tried and have only made a mess of things. Please take over my life. I surrender all to You. Take me, Lord. Take control. I need You. Amen.

Psalm 10 NKJV: Another Prayer Against the Wicked! Comments by Dennis Edwards

Psalm 10:1 Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble?

When things seem to be going awry, we may ask the Lord, "Why does it seem like You’re not paying attention to what is happening? Where are You in times of trouble, Lord?"

Psalm 10:2 The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

Amen, Lord, let them be caught. Catch them. Lord. Expose their iniquity.

Psalm 10:3-5  For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts. His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; As for all his enemies, he sneers at them. 

Psalm 10:6-8 He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity." His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity. He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent; his eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.

They make laws, Lord, to allow the mothers to slay their innocent children. In some states in America, young girls can go down to the abortion clinic without parental consent, without their parents even knowing about it, and have an abortion paid for by the state. Since 1964 in America alone, some 64 million babies have been aborted. The largest percentage being black male babies. May God have mercy on us and judge us accordingly. 

Psalm 10:9-11 He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; He lies in wait to catch the poor;
He catches the poor when he draws him into his net. So he crouches, he lies low, That the helpless may fall by his strength. He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see.”

Psalm 10:12 Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble.

Our cry, also, is, arise, O Lord. Judge the wicked. Raise up men and women of God to fight for Your cause, to fight against those that fight against You. Help us to raise our voices against the wicked and their evil devices.

Psalm 10:13-15 Why do the wicked renounce God? He has said in his heart, “You will not require an account.” But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, To repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

Amen, do it, Lord. The oppressors oppress and the poor man has no defence against the wicked who is rich and increased with goods and power. Bring them low, O Lord. Bring them low. Hear the cry of Your children around the world and save us from our enemies who are too strong for us. They vaccinate us for evil. They contaminate our food and give us refuse to eat. They fill our minds with evil and falsehoods so that our faith is weakened. Arise, O Lord, defend Your children. Let not the mighty men have dominion over us.

Psalm 10:16-18 The Lord is King forever and ever; The nations have perished out of His land. Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, That the man of the earth may oppress no more.

Do it, Lord Jesus. The time has come for You to send forth Your judgments upon the wicked. We implore You, Lord. Hold not back Your anger. Rebuke the wicked and the oppressor and the great men of the earth who through their sorceries deceive the whole world. Judge them, Lord. As they have chastised Your children, arise and chastise them. Destroy them that have destroyed the earth through their greed. Spare not, Lord. The time has come. Your children need Your strong arm. Have mercy upon us, O Lord. We commit ourselves unto You. Use us for Your glory and purpose that the world may know that You have sent us. In Jesus’ name we pray.

God’s Word Can Help Our Faith to Grow!

Have you ever noticed sometimes when you are a bit down that just a few words from a friend can lift you up and get you going? That is exactly what God’s Word promises to do. Apostle Paul says that there would not be believers unless they had first heard the Word of God. They would not have heard unless someone had gone and spoken to them. He concluded that faith, therefore, comes through hearing the Word of God.[Romans 10:17]

When we spend time reading God’s Word, it speaks to us. Jesus said, “The words I speak unto you they are spirit and they are life.”[John 6:63] Hebrews says, “The word of God is quick (alive) and powerful.”[Hebrews 4:12] Words are real things. They are spiritual entities which either lift up or drag down. Proverbs declares, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”[Proverbs 18:21]

But meditating and reading God’s Word promises to have a good affect on our lives. Psalm 1 says, “Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the Lord, who meditates therein day and night. For he shall be as a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season and whatsoever he does shall prosper.”[Psalm 1:1-4]

Scientific studies have shown that a diet of daily Bible reading actually affects our brain’s nerve cells making them healthier.[1] Reading God’s Word helps us to be more positive, more loving, patient, and understanding. It casts out fear and worry which are the main causes of stress and inhibitors of good health.

In fact the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 119, dwells on the importance of reading and meditating on God’s Word. Here’s what it claims God’s word will do for you.

The Word cleanses our path.[v9] It helps us not to sin.[v11] It gives us answers to give to others.[v42] It gives us comfort.[v54] It’s better than wealth.[v72] It keeps us from getting discouraged.[v92] It makes us wiser than our enemies.[v98] It makes us smarter than our teachers.[v99] It is a lamp unto our feet.[v105] It gives light and understanding.[v130] It is pure.[v140] It is true.[v160] It is a help in persecution.[v161] It gives us peace.[v165]

If we could buy a medicine or a food that would promise to give us all those qualities, we would be willing to pay good money, if indeed the promises were true. But God’s promises are true. Like Joshua told Israel, “Not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God spoke concerning you: all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing has failed thereof.”[Joshua 21:45]

Joshua had previously said, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shall meditate therein day and night that thou may observe to do all that is written therein, for then shall thou make thy way prosperous and then shall thou have good success.”[Joshua 1:8] Surely the affects of reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on God’s Word for generations may be the reason the Jewish people are head and shoulders above their brethren in everything they do. All those years of guarding God’s Word in their hearts actually made them smarter and more talented than others.

God’s Word is waters to swim in. Please do not neglect it. It promises to give us life and light and power and love and everything we need in today’s busy world. It is food for our souls and will give us strength for the battle. Our faith will grow as we read, study, and obey its teachings. God will bless us as we meditate upon His Word.

Lord, Who Shall Abide in Your Presence? - Psalm 15

 

The Character of Those Who May Dwell with the Lord

15:1 Lord, who may abide (or sojourn) in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill?

Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God,” but as we read yesterday in Psalm 14, “There is none that does good, no not one,” Psalm 14:3b. Thus, we find ourselves in the human predicament. Like Isaiah wrote, “But we are as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags,” Isaiah 64:6a. The High Priest in the Old Testament, first had to offer a sacrifice for his own sins, before he was able to offer the sacrifices for the people. We in our unrighteousness cannot approach unto God. We are unworthy. “There is none that does good, no not one.”

Again, God has made a way of escape. He Himself has entered into the world as the Only Begotten Son, God in human flesh. For to Abraham was given the promise that he would be father of all those who believed not through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. We receive the righteousness which is by faith through our faith and belief in Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life,” John 3:16.

Apostle Paul goes on to explain, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so, death passed upon all men, for all have sinned,” Romans 5:12. We have inherited a tendency to rebel against God from Adam. But God Himself has become the solution. “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous,” Romans 5:19. “Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord (and Saviour) Jesus Christ,” Romans 5:1. “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believes,” Romans 10:4.

In the book of Revelation God says He is preparing His bride for the day when, “Behold the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away,” Revelation 21:3-4.

We will be able to approach unto God, not through our own righteousness which is filthy rags, but through the righteousness that has been imputed unto us through our faith and obedience to Jesus Christ, the first begotten or preeminent of all things, the heir of all creation. “And, having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself,…and you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now has He reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight: if you continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel,” Colossians 1:21-23.

^{Psalm 15:2} He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart;

Jesus was the only one who walked uprightly, worked righteousness, and spoke the truth. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by Me,” John 14:6. Only through His righteousness can we approach unto God. "For He (God) has made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, Who (Jesus) knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (Jesus)," 2 Corinthians 5:21. We have put on Christ, through faith and obedience to Him, and are now covered with His righteousness. We have put on our wedding garment which is Jesus Christ.

^{Psalm 15:3} He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbour,
Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;

Another reminder of the importance of our words. Jesus said we would give account for every idle word in the day of judgment. Solomon warned that "death and life are in the power of the tongue," Proverbs 18:21. Our words can kill or give life. We should “speak the truth in love that we might grow up into Jesus in all things,” Ephesians 4:14. Apostle Paul admonishes, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may administer grace unto the hearers,” Ephesians 4:29. Apostle James warns, "And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and is set on fire of hell," James 3:6. Read the whole chapter to review the seriousness of an uncontrolled tongue .

^{Psalm 15:4} In whose eyes a vile person is despised, But he honours those who fear the Lord;
He who swears to his own hurt and does not change;

God is angry with the wicked every day. Though His mercy endures forever to them that seek Him, judgment will come upon the wicked. Blessings will come upon those who have feared and obeyed God, if not in this life, then in the world to come. God also admonishes us not to break our promises even if we suffer for it. Like Jesus said, let your "Yes" be yes, and let your "No" be no. Be faithful to your word, even if it is costly, for a man is as good as his word.

^{Psalm 15:5} He who does not put out his money at usury, Nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Lastly, we are warned not to demand usury from those to whom we lend money. Nevertheless, the rich oppress the poor and through usury keep them in bondage. The modern-day capitalistic banking system, formed mostly from wealthy Jewish families, use usury to enslave the nations.

“And you shall take no gift: for the gift blinds the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous,” Exodus 23:8. God is warning those who are in positions of authority not to take bribes or accept a gift from a lobbying body. “You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous,” Deuteronomy 16:19. Again, our government officials accept gifts from the rich and powerful to the detriment of the poor and needy.

For that reason, the present-day Babylonian Capitalistic system which oppresses the poor and helps increase the wealth and power of the rich shall be judged by God in the last days. “Therefore, shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned by fire: for strong is the Lord God who judges her,” Revelation 18:8.

“And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: for true and righteous are His judgments: for He has judged the great whore (the capitalistic city system of today) which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand,” Revelation 19:1-2.

Like Daniel Webster, the Secretary of State for three of the first Presidents of the USA warned, “If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we or our posterity neglect its instruction and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.”

The time has come. We have turned our back on God and therefore “if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries,” Hebrews 10:26-27. God will tribulate His people to bring them to repentance, but send His wrath on those that hate Him and deny His existence.

“And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men (as a result of a nuclear blast?), because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. Neither shall their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord’s wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy: for He shall make a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land,” Zephaniah 1:17-18.

Let’s not be counted with them that are worthy of His wrath. Let us rather fear God while it is called today and draw nigh to Him with a full heart, for forgiveness is found in Jesus. “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that, whether we are alive or dead, we should live together with Him. Wherefore, comfort yourselves together, and edify one another,” 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11. “Faithful is he that called you, who also will do it,” 1 Thessalonians 5:24.
