Dennis Edwards: Simply put, if we obey God by being obedient to His written word and to the voice of His word and the nudges of His still small voice, we can expect His Holy Spirit to be with us, as He gives the Holy Spirit to them that obey Him.[Acts 5:32] He tells us also to grieve not the Holy Spirit through our wrong attitudes, words, and actions.[Ephesians 4:30] Jesus said, "He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."[John 14:21] If we hunger and thirst after righteousness, if we hunger and thirst after having God's presence active in our life, we shall be filled.[Matthew 5:6] The Holy Spirit will be like rivers of living waters which we, with our words, will be able to pour forth to quench the thirsty souls of men.[John 7:38-39]
Be not drunk with wine, but be ye filled with the Spirit.[Ephesians 5:18] Ask God to continually renew the presence of His Holy Spirit in you. "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"[Luke 11:13] Ask and ye shall receive that your joy may be full.[John 16:24] "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry...until ye be endued with power from on high."[Luke 24:40] Spend time tarrying at Jesus' feet. Spend time tarrying at His word. Spend time tarrying in prayer and He will indeed annoint you with His presence. "Now we know that God hears not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and does his will, him he hears."[John 9:31]
