"The answer is blowing in the wind." The answer has been blowing in the wind since the beginning of time. In Genesis we read, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth...And the spirit of God moved (or blew) upon the face of the waters."[Genesis 1:1 & 1:2b] So the imagery of the wind blowing is the same as the imagery of God's Spirit blowing on the waters during the first day of creation.
In the Psalms we read, "As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more."[Psalm 103:15-16] Here we see the wind blowing on a man's life. The wind represents God's Spirit blowing on a man's life and then it's over.
But Jesus gives clearer imagery when talking to the learned Nicodemus about being born of the Spirit. He said, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which born of the Spirit is spirit...The wind blows where it lists, and thou hears the sound thereof, but cannot tell whence it comes, and whither it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit."[John 3:5,6,8.KJV]
In The Message Bible we read verses seven and eight like this. "So don't be so surprised when I tell you that you have to be 'born from above' - out of this world, so to speak. You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you have no idea where it comes from or where it's headed next. That's the way it is with everyone 'born from above' by the wind of God, the Spirit of God."
What Dylan's words are communicating is, that the answer to man's inhumanity to man, the answer to the problem of wars between nations and peoples, that answer is ever present in the realm of the Spirit of God. The answer is ever present in our own hearts and minds, if we would take time away from the mad rush of our living to comtemplate. The answer is in our own hearts, implanted there by the Spirit of God, if we would just let it be born by receiving the truth of Jesus's words into our hearts. "Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind...And...love thy neighbour as thyself."[Matthew 22:37-38]
Jesus even took the question of love a step further when He said, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you."[Matthew 5:44] The early Christians followed a doctrine of passive resistance and won the hearts of the Romans by the way they died. The early Christians did not rise up against their ungodly oppressors.
Jesus had told Apostle Peter to put away his sword when Jesus was being apprehended by the Jewish Temple guards. That same Peter later admonished the early Christian believers who were slaves of Roman masters, to be in subject not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.[1 Peter2:18] But they could only do so because they had been born of the Spirit, their hearts had been touched by the Spirit of God and they were born a new.
Loving others, even our enemies is the answer that has been blowing in the wind, the answer blowing in the hearts of men, embedded in our hearts by the Spirit of God. We used to sing, "Give Peave a Chance." But now we hear not the songs of peace, but only the drums of war. What has happened? Where is the peace generation? Where are the peacemakers?
Apostle Paul tells us that another spirit has gone out over the nations. We read, "Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron."[1 Timothy 4:1-2] We have given heed to seducing spirits, seducing words that have led us astray from the truth God implanted in our hearts. We have abandomed our moral compass. By believing these false doctrines of men we have actually seared the Godly conscience from our own hearts and minds and given ourselves over to demonic lies.
Words are real things. They bless, or they curse. Jesus said that the words He spoke were spirit and life.[John 6:63] But we have abandomed God's word for the words of men. We have put our faith in lying words. We have drunken from bitter and poisoned waters. Our hearts have lost their moral compass. We are thrown about by every wind of doctrine that the press pours forth of her deceitful lips.
God is calling us to take up our swords. The sword He is asking us to garnish is the sword of the spirit which is the word of God.[Ephesians 6:17] God's sword, His word, is sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.[Hebrews 4:12] We need to pick up our Bibles and read them, and follow the word of God.
God is calling us to come out of spiritual Babylon, the babbling of many voices, "the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird."[Revelation 18:2b] If we do not come out of her we will receive of her plagues.[Revelation 18:4] Those judgments, which we have subconsciously pushed from the back of our minds, even though we knew they were coming, will come. They may very well be at the doors. Therefore, come out of her my people, for he that is joined to a harlot is one flesh.
Come out of your idolatries and rededicate yourselves to Jesus. "Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that has ears to hear, let him hear."[Luke 14:34-35] "So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple."[Luke 14:33]
When Alexandre Solzhenitsyn was asked what was the main cause of the ruiness revolution that swallowed up some 60 million of the Russian people, he said he could not put it more accuratedly than to repeat what he had heard the older generation say, "Men have forgotten God, that's why all this has happened." Let's get back to God before it is too late!
