¿Tu vida de oración salva almas?

Compilación- the Family International

Y usted llevó a mi hermano a Cristo y a bautizarse junto a ella —explicó—.

Uma compilação por the Family International

Começamos o dia celebrando a graça divina.

As orações geram respostas!

Search for the Truth

Bruce Malone

Western civilization was founded on the realization that an infinite creator God exists. It was upon this basis (that the universe was the orderly product of an intelligent being) that the founders of modern science had the confidence to develop the scientific method and modern science. However, in recent years, this open acknowledgment of a personal creator has been replaced by science as the source of ultimate reality. This viewpoint shift is primarily justified by the acceptance of evolution (both biological and cosmic) as fact. The late Christian philosopher, Francis Schaeffer, put it best, “Modern man has two feet firmly planted in midair.”

In essence, modern man has put science in place of God as the foundation for understanding reality. Instead of the starting point, “In the beginning God created…” we now have “In the beginning hydrogen gas…” However, science can never define reality because it is merely a tool which organizes observations in such a way as to attempt to explain the physical world. Current observations are extrapolated to explain the past (which can no longer be observed) or to predict the future (which also cannot be observed). As more observations are gathered, predictions of science (known as hypotheses, theories, and laws) constantly change. For example, the universal laws of motion developed by Newton in the 1600’s have been expanded by Einstein’s theory of relativity in the 1900’s. This in turn has been expanded to include other discoveries of modern physics.

The realization that scientific discoveries are ever changing has been incorrectly extended to all areas of life and has led to the conclusion that there is no absolute truth. However, just because scientific interpretations are ever changing does not prove that truth does not exist. Science can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God. Furthermore, what we believe about the existence of God has absolutely no bearing on the reality of His existence. If we only know a fraction of all reality; who are we to assume that the knowledge of God does not exist in the areas we have not mastered?

If God does exist, and has interacted with mankind in the past; there should be some physical evidence for both His existence and this interaction. The quantity and quality of this evidence is the subject of these articles.

Is it possible to discover objective truth? Is there sufficient evidence to support belief in the existence of a creator God? Is this God an impersonal force or a personal God who has interacted and communicated with humans? These are the questions which will be addressed. The foundational assumption of every article is that truth does exist. Jesus Christ repeatedly claimed to be God.1 Either He is the creator of the universe or He is not. The Bible claims to be inspired by God.2 Either this is true or the Bible is just a compilation of men’s ideas. The Bible describes as factual events an instantaneous creation of separate plant and animal types and a worldwide water catastrophe. Either these events happened or they did not. If they did; there should be evidence supporting these events. These articles will thus examine all areas of science to determine just what is the truth of our past.

Gift Discovery

By Steve Hearts

Although I had always known in theory what “spiritual gifts” were, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12, my life was drastically changed when I began to understand and experience for myself this most fascinating component of my walk with the Lord, which I had previously overlooked.

Before this process of enlightenment and learning began, I had always heard and read what was written in God’s Word on the topic of spiritual gifts with great interest—only to brush it off in the end, concluding that it simply did not and could not apply to me.

I was first steered in this direction by the Lord and His Spirit one day in early December 2007. It was a Sunday—a day I usually set aside for extra rest and time to recharge my batteries. I planned to take full advantage of this day, as I knew that my Christmas season with all of its witnessing activities, singing engagements, etc., was soon to begin in earnest. Another opportunity to rest would not come around until the close of the season.

Feeling thus inclined, I began to kick back. No sooner had I done so than I was informed that someone I’d been spiritually ministering to, whom I will call P., had arrived at the house unannounced and was asking to see me. So much for my plans to kick back!

I was even less prepared for his request. “I’d like to take you to my mother’s house so that you can pray for her. I know you have the gift of healing. Will you come with me?”

P’s mother had been hospitalized due to serious kidney problems. My parents had visited her during that time. She was not expected to pull through. They prayed for her, and her condition stabilized enough for her to go home. But she was still quite weak.

During the trip across town, my mind raced, as I tried unsuccessfully to figure out why this was happening. Nothing could have seemed more absurd than P’s confident declaration that I had the gift of healing. I was certain that I possessed no such gift. My mother’s death from cancer two years before seemed to make this even more obvious. Since then, I had all but lost faith in the power of prayer for healing—and the effectiveness of using the keys of the kingdom.1 I had deemed such methods fruitless and of no effect. Why was I being forced to employ them now?

As we neared our destination, I earnestly asked the Lord for His will to be done, and that I might somehow be the instrument He needed to fulfill His intended mission.

The response to this desperate prayer was a total, inexplicable peace that calmed my racing thoughts. Along with it came the certainty that I was indeed being used and had only to flow along with the movement of the one in whose hands I rested.

This peace and certainty increased as we entered P’s parents’ house. My inner conflicts were forgotten, as God’s Spirit moved in their place.

After the typical pleasantries, I sang scripture songs about healing, which greatly comforted P’s mother. I then explained to her that these promises are just as valid today as they were when God had first given them 2,000 years ago. I offered to lay hands on her and ask the Lord to heal her. She agreed without question.

To this day, I do not remember a word of the prayer that came out of my mouth—other than my specifically calling on the keys of the kingdom to be activated on behalf of this dear woman. Considering my current attitude, I knew my praying such a prayer was nothing short of a miracle being worked in my life. I could certainly feel the Spirit moving much stronger than I had felt it for quite some time.

The prayer was not especially long. When it was finished, I assured P’s mother that we had done our part and that the situation was now totally in God’s hands. She agreed, thanked me profusely, and we were on our way.

For the next day or so, I continued business as usual, without giving much thought to the visit.

A day or so later, P. showed up again—announcing that his mother had improved considerably—so much so that the doctors were unable to believe that she was the same person. Both his parents were so grateful for what had happened that they invited me and my family to dinner with them. During this visit, P’s father, whom we’d been told had previously wanted nothing to do with God or anything of such nature, accepted Jesus into his heart with much gratitude and humility.

As for me, thrilled as I was over what God had done for P’s mother, I still stubbornly refused to believe that I’d been given the gift of healing. I started reading the bookMegashift,2 but quit halfway through it, thinking it wasn’t for me.

Shortly thereafter, I went through a period of discouragement and began to contemplate a change of vocations: perhaps the pursuit of another career.

It was at the beginning of this year that the Lord began to make my path clear.

The Lord told me that I had indeed been given the gift of healing, but that it could not be activated, because of the resentment I’d held on to after my mother’s passing away. However, since I had recently let go of this resentment and had now accepted my mother as one of my spirit helpers, this was about to change. He admonished me to check my heart and give all resentment to Him—no matter how justifiable it seemed—and to make forgiveness a priority. With His help, I did so.

Not long afterwards, I felt a strong urge to call up a friend in the US who also was a strong believer, and who had been of much help to us in times past. After an inspiring conversation, we decided to close in prayer—each one praying for the other. I first prayed a specific prayer for him, requesting the Lord’s blessing on every aspect of his life.

When he began to pray for me, it was as if he’d been given “the gift of knowledge.” He prayed that the Lord would activate such power within me so that when I pray for people to be healed, I wouldn’t even need to lay hands on them. Mind you, I had not told him a thing about what God had been showing me regarding the gift of healing. Yet, such was his prayer.

Only minutes after hanging up the phone, I was prompted by the Lord to call a local mechanic friend who had done extensive work on our vehicle for a generous discount. He and his family were also strong believers.

His seven-year-old grandson answered the phone, telling me that the grandparents had gone out to buy him medicine for a headache. Upon hearing this, I felt the Lord prompting me to pray for his healing right then. I did so.

The next day, I called this family again. This time the mechanic’s wife answered the phone. “When we came home from the store with the medicine yesterday,” she said, “the boy told us he was fine, that he didn’t need it anymore. He said the pain went away after you called and prayed for him.”

There were other incidences which God used to further encourage my faith to exercise the gift of healing for His glory. These encouraged me to read Megashift, which spoke directly to me, confirming all that I had been learning from the Lord.

One day, I called up another friend in the US to whom we minister regularly. He asked if we could pray together for a relative of his who lives back in his home country. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was about to undergo an operation to have it removed. I prayed and claimed the keys of the kingdom for her healing, asking God’s blessing on the surgery. I can’t say my sense of expectation was very high while praying. But I did so, mainly for our friend’s sake. Then I continued on, business as usual.

About a week later, my friend called us up while I was out. When I returned, my stepmother, who had answered the phone, told me that the person I had prayed for last week was given a clean bill of health and no longer needed the operation.

Not only am I now convinced that the Lord’s power to work miracles is strong and effective, I am now certain that regardless of what happens or doesn’t happen when we claim His power for healing or miracles and use the keys of the kingdom, obedience to the Lord is what matters most. He always blesses this in some way or another.

As for the rest, whether or not we understand all the whys and wherefores, He is in control.

What’s the purpose of my writing about this? To brag about the gifts I’ve been given? No way! Spiritual gifts are for anyone and everyone. I am just as human and regular as anyone reading this article. My purpose in writing this is to draw your attention to this topic of spiritual gifts and to encourage you to find out which “gifts” the Lord wishes to manifest through you for His glory. Do so, and you’ll find your life changing in ways you could have never imagined.

It may involve undergoing the type of changes that hurt and kill our pride, as in my case. It may involve forsaking and sacrifice. Even so, the gains will outweigh the losses—and you will experience your sense of purpose rekindled and your motivation strengthened. Once you get rolling with God’s program, you’ll never want to stop, and things will never be the same.

No había puesto a prueba Mis promesas.

Decide siempre a Mi favor.

Sentia-me avassalado pelos afazeres.

Belfast columnist believes creationists are deluded people who have abandoned reason. From Answers in Genesis

Belfast Telegraph: “Why we can’t let this man shape our view of world

Belfast columnist believes creationists are deluded people who have abandoned reason.

Belfast Telegraph columnist Fionola Meredith attended one of Ken Ham’s Answers in Genesis talks during his recent speaking tour in Northern Ireland and definitely saw red. Her half-page column in the August 15 issue of the paper consists of a massive military metaphor railing against—and misrepresenting—Ken’s message and Answers in Genesis’ position. She accuses Ken of delivering a “blood-red battle-cry” in “a rapid-fire hectoring machine-gun rattle which . . . gave listeners no time to think for themselves.” However, a reading of her column would suggest Ms. Meredith is the one sounding the clarion call-to-arms. She warns readers against being “dangerously complacent” by dismissing what she calls “Ham’s one-dimensional, apocalyptic vision as the rantings of a misguided man.”

Columnist Meredith is offended that Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis have an uncompromising view of Scripture and consider God’s Word true from the very first verse. She is confused, however, about the relationship between science and the Bible. Ms. Meredith thinks Answers in Genesis claims that the Bible is “provable by science.” Answers in Genesis maintains that what we see in God’s world confirms what we read in God’s Word. Confirming and proving are not synonymous.

Experimental science can provide data about processes observable in the present, but in order to draw conclusions concerning our origins—events of the unobservable untestable past—scientists must interpret data in light of their own worldviews. Evolutionary scientists believe that molecules-to-man evolution occurred, that all things came to be by random natural processes. Even though they cannot test or confirm those beliefs, they accept those beliefs as unarguable facts. Creation scientists accept the authority of the only Eyewitness present at the time of our origins and interpret facts in light of God’s truth, knowing that only those interpretations have any possibility of being true.

Ms. Meredith accuses biblical creationists of targeting children in schools and indoctrinating them. We would have to ask just what schools she is speaking of—certainly not those in the U.K. or the U.S.! Not only does Answers in Genesis not suggest that creation science teaching be mandated in public schools, the laws would prevent it. Admission that controversy exists and encouraging children to think critically is not indoctrination. On the contrary, deceiving children by telling them no controversy exists and demanding they accept evolutionary ideas as axiomatic unquestioned facts is indoctrination. Answers in Genesis encourages schools to allow critical thinking and academic freedom in the open discussion of the scientific claims of evolutionists. And we encourage parents and churches to equip their children and all Christians to enable them to understand the claims of those who would indoctrinate them by demanding they deny and distrust God’s Word. 9

Ms. Meredith warns her readers not to let Ken Ham shape their view of the world, believing that those so influenced are deluded, are unable to think for themselves, and have abandoned reason. Sadly, she makes the same error many do—believing that by rejecting God’s Word they are free of bias. Yet evolutionists themselves have a pre-existing bias: they “must not allow a divine foot in the door.”10 That position is not one of “thinking for oneself” but a decision to reject authoritative information from the Creator God who made all things.

The pastor of one of the churches that hosted Ken Ham wrote a reply to the Belfast Telegraphcondemning Ms. Meredith’s unfair caricature of Ken Ham. In it, he defends the good sense, intelligence, and integrity of his congregation and his community. Pastor Trevor Ramsey of Newtownbreda Baptist Church Belfast writes:

As the pastor of a large Belfast church, who was unashamedly willing to invite Ken Ham to address our intelligent, clear thinking, literate community, I simply ask: Might there be a possibility that the Creationist viewpoint is the correct one? People like Ham and right-thinking Christians are indeed dangerous - to the uncritical mass of people who blindly accept the evolutionist position as unquestioning “fact.”11

Creationists from Answers in Genesis are not exhorting Christians to rise up in a militant frenzy but to obey the biblical exhortation (1 Peter 3:15) to be able with a good attitude to explain the hope that we have. We trust the living Christ with our present lives and our eternal futures, and we base that trust on the Word of God which answers, among other things, how sin and death came to afflict humanity and why we need to be saved. That understanding comes from accepting what God says from the very first verse.

Read Ken’s blog “You Compare” and watch the video presentation at www.metropolitan-tabernacle.org of one of his Northern Ireland messages, like the one Ms. Meredith heard. Judge for yourself. Do you hear a militant brutal battle-cry or a message calling people back to the loving God who created them and wants them to trust His Word and His Son Jesus Christ?

And Don’t Miss . . .
Outspoken atheist and physicist Lawrence Krauss recently wrote an essay about the Higgs boson (aka “the god particle”) for the July 9 Newsweek. While raging about the colloquial nickname, Krauss asserts we don’t need to believe in a God who can create everything from nothing so long as we have quantum physics. Krauss wrote, “Humans, with their remarkable tools and their remarkable brains, may have just taken a giant step towards replacing metaphysical speculation with empirically verifiable knowledge. The Higgs particle is now arguably more relevant than God.” Responding to Krauss, Oxford apologist John Lennox12 has written a thoughtful analysis published August 18 in The Times of London and republished on the Christian Post. In his essay, “Not the God of the Gaps, But the Whole Show,” Lennox makes clear that discovery of a scientific or natural explanation does not write God out of the picture—He’s the one that created the picture in the first place. God created all things—including the laws of physics. And if he chooses to sustain His creation through the physical laws He has created, that does not mean He does not exist or even that He is uninvolved in our lives, individually and collectively, spiritually and historically. Be sure to read Lennox’s analysis, which reminds us of the truly great physicists who honored the God whose creation they studied (though AiG disagrees with Lennox on some matters related to the book of Genesis). A Tribute to Friendship

By Maria Fontaine

When faced with a close friend moving away, some of us can find ourselves asking, “If God loves me so much, why does He allow my close friends to leave me? I really need that person in my life. Now that I don’t have them, I feel lost and not complete. Lord, why couldn’t You have worked things out a different way?”

Jesus’ disciples probably felt the same. After all, imagine their sense of loss when Jesus left them. Jesus, God’s Son, who had been with them day in and day out, teaching them to love, pouring into them, showing them how to interact in wisdom with others and carry on the mission, supporting them, helping them, listening to them, comforting them, being everything to them, sharing all that He was with them! How much greater a loss could there have been? They must have felt a heartrending sense of loss and uncertainty about how they could go on without Him.

I’m sure that those days in the upper room were times of deep soul-searching, trying to come to grips with the questions that must have weighed so heavily on their hearts. But when they looked to the Holy Spirit for their comfort, whom Jesus had told them He would send, they found the faith and courage to carry out what Jesus was depending on them to do. They knew they couldn’t fail Him even though He was gone from them physically and even though they felt the loss so intensely. With the Holy Spirit’s help, they found comfort and the anointing to carry on His work. Look what happened when His disciples started ministering to those who needed the love and life that Jesus had given them! The Spirit worked mightily through them. Through this they actually grew closer than ever to Jesus, because all that He had given to them began to grow and overflow on others through them.

Our friendships are mini versions of the same principle. When God allows the circle to be broken for a while—sometimes even until heaven—our friendships have the potential to start their own chain reaction that can touch and better many lives, and our own life many times over. The bond of friendship you have with someone is a manifestation of Jesus’ love—His Spirit flowing through you to them, and through them to you.

The greatest thing you can do to show your love for your friend is to make your life a living example of all that person means to you and all that your friendship has been worth. When you use all the beauty, goodness, kindness and lessons you learned together, it becomes a living testimony of your friendship that draws others in and causes that friendship to take on an even greater meaning.

The Lord gave some beautiful and comforting words about friendship, which I want to share with you.

Jesus says,

“Take what your friendship has taught you, those precious things that you gained from each other, and determine to show your love for your friend by using all that you have gained. Those things that your friend has given you and shared with you have become a part of you and will continue to bless your life and the lives of others. That is their gift to you. Your gift to them is to use it to multiply what your friendship has afforded you.

“You’ll find that a part of the old friend lives on and grows in your life to make you a better person, a wiser person. That is the most perfect way to keep that friendship alive and well in your heart. Use it to become a friend to as many others as you can. Your friendships then become truly complete.

“That’s one reason why there is such powerful unity in heaven. All the bonds of friendship and love that you are creating on earth become an eternal joy for you in heaven. You’ll realize there that you never lost a single friend, but that each parting in the physical only brought others into connection, both with you and through you, to all the friends you have gained in this life.

“If you have friends who are remaining with you or are nearby, appreciate their value. If you have friends who are leaving or have left, or if you are in the position of moving and saying goodbye, celebrate the closeness you have had and the gift it has been—and reach out to nurture other such relationships.”

Here are a few classic quotes on friendship. Whether friends have traveled to another continent, whether they have gone to be with Jesus, whether they’re old friends or new ones, one with you or one absent, or whether you’re thinking about your very best friend, Jesus—these reflections can help you focus on the beauty of God’s gift of friendship.

Hang Time

A compilation

Download Audio (12.8MB)

In [American] football, “hang time” refers to how long the pigskin remains aloft after being kicked. In basketball, it’s the length of time a player is suspended as he soars through the air to dunk the ball. In the unexpected adventure of evangelism, “hang time” refers to something else: hanging out with your seeking friends long enough to really get to know them, to understand their questions and concerns, to deepen the trust between you, and to allow yourselves to delve deeply into spiritual conversations.

If you’re a parent, you know that the best discussions with your children, especially when they are little, don’t come in the first few minutes of your interaction with them. They come much later, after you’ve invested enough time to convince them that you really do care about what’s going on in their lives.

One of the most moving examples of a Christian investing “hang time” is described by Terry Muck in his book Those Other Religions in Your Neighborhood. He recounts a letter written by a man who had lacked any spiritual interest, but who lived next door to a committed Christian.

They had a casual relationship involving talks over the backyard fence, borrowing lawn mowers, stuff like that. Then the non-Christian’s wife was stricken with cancer and soon died. Here’s part of the letter he wrote afterward:

I was in total despair. I went through the funeral preparations and the service like I was in a trance. And after the service I went to the path along the river and walked all night. But I did not walk alone. My neighbor stayed with me all night.

He did not speak; he did not even walk beside me. He just followed me. When the sun finally came up over the river, he came over to me and said, “Let’s go get some breakfast.”

I go to church now. My neighbor’s church. A religion that can produce the kind of caring and love my neighbor showed me is something I want to find out more about. I want to be like that. I want to love and be loved like that for the rest of my life.

Isn’t it interesting how he equates the time his friend spent with him—saying nothing and doing nothing in particular—with “caring and love”?

So who do you need some “hang time” with? Maybe it’s an acquaintance who is going through a crisis in his life. Or perhaps it’s someone from work or your neighborhood with whom you have only a surface-level connection. Spending time with them might foster a new friendship and open the door to spiritual conversations.—Lee Strobel1

In his research, Thom Rainer found that one of the leading factors in influencing the unchurched to come to faith in the Lord is a personal relationship with a Christian, most likely a family member or friend, leaving “little doubt as to the importance of personal evangelism in reaching the unchurched.”

Let me give you several ideas that you can use over the next year to lead some friend or neighbor to Christ.

Get to know the person as well as he or she will allow. Be a good listener. We err in thinking that witnessing is merely us talking and them listening. Ask for and listen to their story. Ask questions and seek to understand their life’s journey. The key here is relationship. Build an honest friendship based on mutual respect. Let your genuine concern for their well-being be evident. Love them in spite of flaws and sins.

Socialize with your friend. Enjoy each other’s presence. Introduce them to other Christians. Let them introduce you to their lost friends. This is what the apostle Matthew did after he left his tax collector’s booth to follow Jesus. Evidently, he threw a party and invited all his “sinner” friends and associates to come. He also invited Jesus.2

Let your life be transparent. When you put on masks for different occasions, people will not see Jesus in you and you will not speak of Him for fear that your mask might slip off. When you are transparent, people can see Jesus through you and your words spoken in witness ring true.

The greatest and best witnessing tool is one that is often overlooked—the Bible. As you develop a relationship with a lost person, ask if he would like to read the Bible together. Getting together once a week to read a chapter or two may be a good starting point.

Above all, pray for the salvation of your friend. Ask God to use your love and friendship to draw her to Jesus. One by one, love people to Jesus so that one by one the whole world may know Him.—Woody D. Wilson3

Discipling a person involves having a personal connection with them, teaching them, mentoring them, praying with and for them. It’s giving them time, answering their questions, spiritually feeding them and showing them how to feed themselves.

To disciple someone, you don’t have to be a gifted Bible teacher or have to know all there is to know about God; rather, discipling means that you do what you can to help others along their spiritual path. Not everyone is a good teacher, but pretty much everyone can share some of what they have learned about faith, God, love, Jesus and salvation with someone. You can give them a Bible or a New Testament or other reading material. You can try to answer their questions, or share what you have learned. You can pray with them, thus showing them how to pray and providing the spiritual support that comes when “two or three are gathered together in My name.”—Peter Amsterdam4

Take a tip from Dale Carnegie, who wrote How to Win Friends and Influence People. The first and most important thing to show someone is that you love them. You do this by showing concern about them and interest in them, and the way you do that is by asking them questions about themselves and their life.

You will find, as Dale Carnegie says, there’s nothing most people like to talk about more than themselves. As he said, “The definition of a bore is someone who wants to talk about himself when I want to talk about myself.”

Sometimes you preach too much. You do all the talking, and you don’t show any interest in the person you’re talking to. You ask for a decision [for salvation] before you even find out whether the guy is already a Christian. All you’re interested in is getting a decision.

I used to go house-to-house witnessing with a preacher. Knock, knock, knock. A lady comes to the door. “Now my dearly beloved, I would have you to know that the Scripture says,” boom, boom, boom, boom, boom!

You’d have thought he just entered the pulpit and started preaching his sermon. The woman is in the middle of the wash, has got a baby draped over one arm, and here he’s starting off with a sermon. Even as dumb as I was, I couldn’t figure out what he was trying to do.

The first thing I would have said was, “Oh, I’m sorry, we interrupted your washing and the baby’s crying. We won’t bother you right now. I see you’re really busy.” Nobody’s got time to stand there at the door with a baby in one arm screaming and the wash going on and whatnot.

You have to show consideration, interest, and concern about the person and their problems. If you really have the compassion of the Holy Spirit and you’ve got the love of God in your heart, you’re going to be like Jesus.

Ask them questions, listen to their answers, get their whole life story. That may be the best thing you could do for them—just giving them someone to talk to, to pour out their heart to.

All psychiatrists and psychologists say the same thing: It does people good just to tell you their story. So ask them questions and show that you’re really interested in them and concerned about them.

Once they’ve given you their whole story, then you can begin to give them the answers to their problems—scriptures, and the love of God. Tell them what they need, what the solutions are. But how do you know what scripture they need, what solution they need, or what they need if you don’t listen to what their problems are, if you don’t find out their background?

You don’t walk into a doctor’s office and sit down in front of his desk and all of a sudden he says, “Well now, what you need is so-and-so, and I’m going to give you this prescription. Goodbye!” He sits there and listens to you and what your trouble is.

You’re a soul doctor, and it’s your business to listen to the patient and his symptoms and even what he thinks is the trouble with him. Even if it’s not right, you listen and you try to hear his side of the story. If you don’t hear about his symptoms and his problems and all these things, how are you going to make the right prescription?—David Brandt Berg5

Most witnessing efforts necessitate that we take the time to build a relationship with the lost person and that we truly listen to their needs. This requires a time commitment to an individual or a family. Enough of our “hit and run” attempts at winning the lost. We go in “guns blazing” and get a decision at the expense of the soul. Many seekers and interested people are “lost” to the church because we have besieged their homes with rapid-fire, automatic-weapon type witnessing. It is as if we are saying, “I have some great news to share with you. You have approximately 5 to 10 minutes to hear it, understand it, appreciate it, and receive it. Ready? Here are four simple truths you must know.”—Woody D. Wilson6

The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:

To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.7

This is an important principle which applies to cultures as well as to individuals. Paul was saying that it’s necessary to be relatable, to understand that people as well as cultures are different, and that to win them it’s important to integrate, to recognize what relates to them, what’s important to them, and to meet them in that sphere of their interest or culture.

Before they will show interest in what makes you different, they need to recognize those things that you have in common with them, that you share some of the same values they do, that you are relatable, and not someone who has an air of superiority or is disconnected from the issues they care about.

To be effective in making the Gospel known to people, it’s necessary to relate to them. To reach the people in your city or your country, or those you work with in your job, or your neighbors and acquaintances, you need to understand them, their culture, what they value. It’s important to integrate into the culture so that they can learn to trust you as an individual, and in trusting you they will feel safe enough to accept what you tell them about God, about His love, about His Son.

As David taught:

You can’t very well tell people that you love them if you don’t make the slightest attempt to learn their language, customs, culture, history, religion, characteristics, nationality traits, etc., which are all a part of them. We can hardly hope to understand them fully or reach them effectively without showing a genuine loving interest in who they really are and what they’re really like.

This has always been a part of the secret of the success of every truly faithful missionary: A genuine endeavor of identification with the people, a true loving sample of God’s love and a clear presentation of His message in some way that they can understand.8—Peter Amsterdam9

THe Place Where You End, I Begin

The Place Where You End,
I Begin

By Jesus, speaking in prophecy

Download Audio (9.87MB)

There is much in life that seems impossible, but with Me, all things become possible. When you look at life or yourself, you often only see problems and impossibilities, and that perplexes you. You fall down in despair, knowing that you can’t bear the weight of all the difficulties, demands, and responsibilities, or even cope with the faults and failings that fill you and surround you.

I’ve shown you the face of seeming impossibilities both within and without so that you could see My hand and power at work and believe, and so that you could be set free from trying so hard to overcome in your own strength. Your confidence in Me has been renewed, knowing that I really am your salvation, your hope, your deliverer, that your salvation is in Me.

Now, as I lift you above the fog of futilely trying to do it all yourself, above the fear and frustration, above all the lying vanities,1 and pull away the façade of impossibilities and show you that your strength and hope lies in Me, you find great peace and confidence. You find hope where there was no hope. Your faith in Me has grown, even though your confidence in yourself has been shaken. You have seen Me keep you and deliver you so miraculously that now you better understand that even though you can’t, I can.

I want you to know that I desire and will do the impossible for you if you cease from your fretful, futile, and frantic struggle to keep yourself, to deliver yourself, to work out your own problems. “I am the Lord that keepeth thee.”2 I want you to put your life into My hands, to rest in Me, to learn to trust where you don’t understand, and to let Me lift you above the problems that come your way; to get you so confident in Me that nothing will easily shake you.

No man can save himself, or add Me and My power and virtue to himself by the force of his own will and works. That’s the madness of self-righteous man. It’s in calling out to Me in desperation to do for you what you know you can’t do for yourself that the miracles of deliverance from your problems by My great power can be performed.

You’ve seen that there are some situations in which nothing but prayer can prevail. Your will, your charm, your goodness, your cleverness, and all such tactics may fall short. But sincere, desperate, humble prayer moves My hand and gets things done when nothing else can. This is a precious gift from Me. Humility is also a very precious gift, though humans don’t always see it that way at first.

How difficult it is to rescue a drowning man when he’s still frantically trying to save himself. His mind is full of fear and he’s a danger to all who come near to help him. Often I want to help you more, but I must wait until you stop struggling so hard. When you’re in a great battle with your fears and problems, you must learn to trust Me to save you and cease from your frantic efforts in the flesh so I can speak to you, still your heart, and bring you out of many waters.

Fight to be calm and to have faith, to believe in Me. Then cast all your cares upon Me.3 Trust Me without reservation and learn to rest, having done all you can; for giving it all to Me is the best thing you can do.

When you feel your fears crushing you on all sides and there’s no apparent way to escape, call on Me and let Me command the storm to cease and bring you up into My secret chamber where all is peace. In an instant I can lift you up and set you upon My rock, My mountaintop, high above the cares of this world.

When you reach the perimeter of your ability as a man, when you fall defeated at the retaining wall of your own limitations and realize the impossibility of escaping what seems like the prison house of your own human frailty or ability, that is when you come to really know your limits, and that with man it is impossible. But the place that seems to be the end of all that’s possible for you is not the end at all of what is actually possible!4 That’s really the place of great beginnings. That’s the border, the frontier, the great divide, the place where you end and I begin.

What may seem like a place of great defeat for you and your pride is not a place of total failure, complete loss, or of despair and utter hopelessness. Just the opposite is true, for just beyond the line that marks your limits is where I begin, an eternal sea of limitless power and possibility that is yours in Me.

So don’t be cast down and fall into despair at what seems impossible and hopeless to you. Simply know you’ve finally reached the borders of My kingdom where you end and My power and glory begins. You’ve come to the holy mountain, to the house of your God, to the doorstep of the King of kings. You have simply come home to your Father’s house, and He who has seen you coming from afar now runs to greet you with open arms and great joy and rejoicing, knowing that you’ve finally come to the end of yourself, and finding yourself unable, have turned from yourself and come home at last to Him.

There I will lift you up into My arms and carry you into My realm, for in your own ability you are too weak to even walk there. There I will clothe you in wondrous robes and call for a feast, for that which was lost is found. Nothing in your hands you bring; simply to My love you cling. When you discover it truly is not in you, but only in Me, then I can lift you up. You can’t rise above by your own will and works, but only through humble surrender and submission to Me.

A soul that has come to the end of itself, to the end of its human endurance and abilities, is actually a greater threat to Satan than a soul full of its own self-confidence. That’s why he attacks with such fury and force, trying to cause those who are broken to despair of life and fall into great self-defeat and condemnation, feeling totally worthless. He doesn’t want them to see that they’ve come to that place of great power—that sacred place where they end and I begin. He doesn’t want them to discover what infinite power is there; that My Spirit is ready to rush in and fill them and give them the pure power of My presence in them, lifting them up. What wars are fought at the border of My kingdom to prevent those weary souls from calling out to Me and casting themselves upon Me that I might deliver them.

Why do you wonder at the mysterious ways of God? Why do you seem so surprised that out of seeming defeat I bring forth My greatest victories? Why are you so confounded that in the moment when you feel weakest, totally defeated, crushed, and unworthy to be called My son, you find yourself most blessed by Me? Have you not read? Have you not heard it said that God’s way up is down? That victory doesn’t go to the swift? That the last shall be first? That the greatest are those who are least in their own eyes, who esteem others greater and who make themselves the servant of all? Have you forgotten that the meek shall inherit the earth? That the broken and humble sinner will enter in before those who are proud and righteous in their own eyes?5

So I say, cease from your futile attempts to do what can only be done by Me. Don’t look into yourself for solutions, but rather step out of your world and into Mine. Come quickly into My courts with praise and thanksgiving.6 Lift up your eyes and look into Mine and find strength for the task, power for the hour, solutions to impossibilities.

Rise up, sweet child, and sing,
For the victory I will bring.
Like a rising tide within,
I wash you free from the bindings of sin.
Where once was naught but gloom and self-despair,
I plant a garden of faith, power, praise and prayer.
Though you have walked the valley of death and worldly care.
Wondrous lessons have you learned there:
That I love you,
That My Word is true,
That there is naught that your flesh can do.
Still, all things are possible in Me through you.

(My soul replies to God:)
You are become my hope,
My high tower,
My strength,
My refuge,
The lifter up of my head,
The source of all my power.
When I seem to fall and die,
From ashes I rise and fly.
With man such things can't be done, dear love,
But in You is the secret of rising above.
