Why Do the Heathen Rage, and the People Imagine a Vain Thing? - Psalm 2

Today’s study will be on
Psalm 2
Psalm 2:1 “Why do
the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?”
The first line in the psalm
seems to be depicting today’s world. The world is in a rage. We have black
against white, conservative against liberal, Pro-Palestine against Pro-Israel,
Pro-Abortion against Anti-Abortion, and the list goes on. It seems at every
level division is rampant and that the media is fomenting that division almost
as if it’s part of a prepared agenda.
In Scripture we
read about the time before Christ’s return,
Luke 21:25 “And
there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon
the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which
are coming on the earth…”
With all the confusion in
the world it seems that men’s hearts are raging and the stage is being set for
the pot to overflow, like we saw back in the French Revolution in 1789, the
Russian Revolution of 1917, and with Black Lives Matter riots in 2020.
When talking of Jesus 2nd
Coming Apostle Paul warned,
2 Thessalonians 2:3 “Let no man deceive you
by any means: for that day shall not come, except there comes a falling away
first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.”
The “man of sin” or “son of perdition” is commonly referred to as
the Antichrist or beast in the New Testament. The prophecy continues,
2 Thessalonians 2:4&7-8a “Who opposes and exalts
himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God
sits in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God…. For the mystery of
iniquity (or lawlessness) does already work: only he who now lets will let,
until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed…”
What Apostle Paul is saying is that the mystery of lawlessness
will end in the revealing of the Antichrist figure. As good Godly men
and women, or at least those that are sympathetic to Godly Laws, are removed
from the sphere of influence, the evil spiritual and physical forces will gain
power and might; finally the Antichrist shall stand up.
Revelation 12:15 “And the
serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might
cause her to be carried away of the flood.”
The Anti-God forces are causing a flood of false
ideas to sweep through much of the higher institutions of learning. Critical
Race Theory and other such ideas are being incorporated into the education of
the younger generation.
Daniel 8:12b “It (the Antichrist
forces) cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered.”
In the Western formerly “Christian” nations,
we have seen a falling away from the faith as the anti-God culture has made
many inroads over the years with anti-God laws and goals. In 1964 abortion
became legalized in America and later exported to other nations in South
America, Africa and Asia through different American and United Nations aid
packages. “Do you want the aid? Then follow the agenda and mend your laws to
permit these practices.”
Psalm 2:1b “and the people imagined a vain thing.”
Since the propagating of the Theory of Evolution in 1859 and all
the diabolical fruits of its theory, the people are definitely imagining a vain
thing. They believe they created themselves through some imaginary process that
fails to present a viable mechanism. They believe that the universe came to
existence from nothing and that there is no Creator God.
They further believe that life came about by chance over a period
of millions of years and accidently the first cell formed in some warm muddy
pond. Through natural selection and mutations, which do not add new functional
biological information to the genome, that single celled organism supposedly
mutated into all the life forms we see on earth today. Surely the people are
imagining a vain thing because they have removed God from their thinking.
The fruit today of such thought has led to the present situation
where truth is no longer “objective,” but rather “subjective.” A person’s
subjective reality takes dominance over objective reality. A man can claim to
be a woman, and a woman can claim to be a man. Like Solomon wrote, “Vanity of
vanities, all is vanity,” [Ecclesiastes 1:2]. Surely, the people are
imagining vain things because God is no longer in their understanding.
Isaiah is a bit stronger than Solomon and proclaims,
Isaiah 5:20-21a "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes!"
That's what we see today. Ideas and practices that have been traditionally considered evil are now considered good.
Psalm 2:2-3 “The kings of the earth
set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his
anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords
from us.”
Down through history rulers have had a choice: work for God and
His kingdom, or work against God and his kingdom. The Jewish rulers and Roman
officials conspired to kill Christ, God’s anointed. Today social and political
movements conspire against God and His people who always are trying to be beacons
for truth, justice, and peace. The evil forces sow division in Christian
communities and do all they can to prohibit true Christianity from having a
voice in the public square.
Psalm 2:4-5 “He that sits in the
heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall
have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them
in his sore displeasure.”
God’s judgments are coming. Though they tarry, they will come.
God’s word is true. The world will reap, what it has sown.
Psalm 2:6 “Yet have I set my king
upon my holy hill of Zion.”
When Jesus returns at the Battle of Armageddon to retake the
earth,
Zechariah 14:4 “His feet shall stand in
that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem.”
Psalm 2:7 “I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten
thee.”
Both Apostle Paul in Acts 13:33 and the author of Hebrews
in Hebrews 1:5&5:5 quote the above verse in reference to
their defence that Jesus is the Son of God.
Psalm 2:8-9 “Ask of me, and I shall
give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the
earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt
dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.”
In the prophecy in Daniel 2 where the image of the Gentile
nations is destroyed by “the stone cut out without hands,” we read,
Daniel 2:35 “Then was
the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces
together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind
carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote
the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.”
And the interpretation:
Daniel 2:44 “And in
the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall
never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it
shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for
ever.”
Similar imagery is found in Daniel 7 where
the “Ancient of Days,” referring to God the Father, delivers the kingdom to
“the Son of Man,” referring to the Messiah, God the Son.
Daniel 7:13-14 “I saw in the night
visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven,
and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And
there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people,
nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting
dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be
destroyed.”
Psalm 2:10-11“Be wise now therefore, O
ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and
rejoice with trembling.”
God is instructing the leaders of the world to be wise and return
to faith in God, to return to a healthy “fear of the Lord” which Solomon said
was the beginning of knowledge.
Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is
the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Apostle Paul admonished his followers similarly before his death.
Philippians 2:12 “Wherefore,
my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much
more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
Psalm 2:12 “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish
from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that
put their trust in him.”
The prophecies predict that eventually every knee shall bow and
every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
Isaiah 45:22-23 “Look unto me, and be ye
saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have
sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall
not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”
Philippians 2:10-11 “That at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and
things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Therefore, the rulers of the world would do themselves and us well
if they repent of their frowardness and fall at the feet of Christ. Blessed
will all those be who put their trust in Him.
Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that
do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may
enter in through the gates into the city.”

Salmo 2:1 “Por que se enfurecem as nações, e os povos tramam em vão?”
O primeiro versículo do salmo parece retratar o mundo atual. O mundo está em fúria. Temos negros contra brancos, conservadores contra liberais, pró-Palestina contra pró-Israel, pró-aborto contra antiaborto, e a lista continua. Parece que a divisão é galopante a todos os níveis e que os media estão a fomentar essa divisão quase como se fizesse parte de uma agenda premeditada.
Nas Escrituras, lemos sobre o tempo que antecede o regresso de Cristo:
Lucas 21:25 “Haverá sinais no sol, na lua e nas estrelas; na terra, angústia das nações em perplexidade, pelo bramido do mar e das ondas; os homens desmaiarão de terror, na expectação das coisas que sobrevirão ao mundo…”
Com toda a confusão no mundo, parece que os corações dos homens estão em fúria e o cenário está a ser preparado para o colapso, como vimos na Revolução Francesa em 1789, na Revolução Russa de 1917 e nos protestos do movimento Black Lives Matter em 2020.
Ao falar sobre a Segunda Vinda de Jesus, o apóstolo Paulo advertiu:
2 Tessalonicenses 2:3 “Ninguém vos engane de maneira alguma, porque não virá sem que primeiro venha a apostasia e seja revelado o homem do pecado, o filho da perdição.”
O “homem do pecado” ou “filho da perdição” é comummente referido como o Anticristo ou a besta no Novo Testamento. A profecia continua:
2 Tessalonicenses 2:4,7-8a: “Opõe-se e exalta-se acima de tudo o que se chama Deus ou é objeto de culto, de tal modo que se assenta no templo de Deus, proclamando-se Deus… Pois o mistério da iniquidade (ou da transgressão da lei) já está em ação, restando apenas que seja afastado aquele que agora o detém. E então o iníquo será revelado…”
O que o apóstolo Paulo está a dizer é que o mistério da transgressão da lei culminará na revelação da figura do Anticristo. À medida que os homens e mulheres bons e piedosos, ou pelo menos aqueles que simpatizam com as leis de Deus, forem afastados da esfera de influência, as forças malignas, espirituais e físicas, ganharão poder e força; finalmente, o Anticristo levantar-se-á.
Apocalipse 12:15 “E a serpente lançou da sua boca água como um rio, atrás da mulher, para que fosse submersa pelo rio.”
As forças do Anticristo estão a provocar uma onda de ideias falsas que varre grande parte das instituições de ensino superior. A Teoria Crítica da Raça e outras ideias semelhantes estão a ser incorporadas na educação da geração mais jovem.
Daniel 8:12b “Ela (as forças do Anticristo) lançou a verdade por terra; e a praticou, e prosperou.”
Nas nações ocidentais, outrora “cristãs”, temos assistido a um afastamento da fé, à medida que a cultura anti-Deus avança ao longo dos anos com leis e objectivos contrários a Deus. Em 1964, o aborto foi legalizado nos Estados Unidos e, posteriormente, exportado para outras nações da América do Sul, África e Ásia através de diferentes pacotes de ajuda americanos e das Nações Unidas. “Querem a ajuda? Então sigam a agenda e alterem as vossas leis para permitir estas práticas.”
Salmo 2:1b “e o povo planeou uma coisa vã.”
Desde a propagação da Teoria da Evolução em 1859 e todos os frutos diabólicos dessa teoria, as pessoas estão certamente a imaginar uma coisa vã. Acreditam que se criaram através de algum processo imaginário que não apresenta um mecanismo viável. Acreditam que o universo surgiu do nada e que não existe um Deus Criador.
Além disso, acreditam que a vida surgiu por acaso ao longo de milhões de anos e que a primeira célula se formou acidentalmente num qualquer lago lamacento e quente. Através da seleção natural e das mutações, que não acrescentam novas informações biológicas funcionais ao genoma, este organismo unicelular transformou-se, supostamente, em todas as formas de vida que vemos na Terra hoje. Certamente, as pessoas estão a imaginar uma coisa vã porque afastaram Deus dos seus pensamentos.
O fruto atual deste pensamento levou à situação em que a verdade já não é “objetiva”, mas sim “subjetiva”. A realidade subjetiva de uma pessoa domina a realidade objetiva. Um homem pode declarar-se mulher, e uma mulher pode declarar-se homem. Como escreveu Salomão: “Vaidade de vaidades, tudo é vaidade” [Eclesiastes 1:2]. Certamente, as pessoas estão a imaginar coisas vãs porque Deus já não está no seu entendimento.
Isaías é ainda mais incisivo do que Salomão e proclama:
Isaías 5:20-21a: “Ai dos que ao mal chamam bem, e ao bem, mal; que fazem das trevas luz, e da luz, trevas; que fazem do amargo doce, e do doce, amargo! Ai dos que são sábios aos seus próprios olhos!”
É isso que vemos hoje. As ideias e práticas que tradicionalmente eram consideradas más são agora consideradas boas.
Salmo 2:2-3 “Os reis da terra se levantam, e os príncipes conspiram juntos contra o Senhor e contra o seu Ungido, dizendo: ‘Vamos romper as suas cadeias e livrar-nos das suas amarras!’”
Ao longo da história, os governantes tiveram de escolher: trabalhar para Deus e o Seu reino, ou trabalhar contra Deus e o Seu reino. Os governantes judeus e os oficiais romanos conspiraram para matar Cristo, o Ungido de Deus. Hoje, os movimentos sociais e políticos conspiram contra Deus e o Seu povo, que se esforça sempre por ser um farol de verdade, justiça e paz. As forças do mal semeiam a divisão nas comunidades cristãs e fazem tudo o que podem para impedir que o verdadeiro cristianismo tenha voz na esfera pública.
Salmo 2:4-5 “Aquele que habita nos céus se rirá; o Senhor zombará deles. Então lhes falará na sua ira e os atormentará no seu furor.”
Os juízos de Deus estão a chegar. Embora demorem, virão. A palavra de Deus é verdadeira. O mundo colherá o que semeou.
Salmo 2:6: "Contudo, eu constituí o meu Rei sobre o meu santo monte Sião."
Quando Jesus regressar na Batalha do Armagedão para retomar a Terra,
Zacarias 14:4: "Naquele dia, os seus pés estarão sobre o monte das Oliveiras, que está defronte de Jerusalém."
Salmo 2:7: "Proclamarei o decreto: O Senhor me disse: Tu és meu Filho; Eu hoje te gerei."
Tanto o apóstolo Paulo, em Atos 13:33, como o autor de Hebreus, em Hebreus 1:5 e 5:5, citam o versículo acima em referência à sua defesa de que Jesus é o Filho de Deus.
Salmo 2:8-9 “Pede-me, e eu te darei as nações por herança e os confins da terra por possessão. Tu os quebrarás com uma vara de ferro; tu os despedaçarás como a um vaso de oleiro.”
Na profecia de Daniel 2, onde a imagem das nações gentílicas é destruída pela “pedra cortada sem auxílio de mãos”, lê-se:
Daniel 2:35 “Então foram despedaçados juntamente o ferro, o barro, o bronze, a prata e o ouro, e se tornaram como a palha das eiras no verão; e o vento os levou, e não se achou lugar para eles; e a pedra que feriu a estátua tornou-se uma grande montanha, e encheu toda a terra.”
E a interpretação:
Daniel 2:44 “Nos dias destes reis, o Deus do céu suscitará um reino que jamais será destruído; e este reino não será deixado a outro povo; esmiuçará e consumirá todos estes reinos, e subsistirá para sempre.”
Uma imagem semelhante encontra-se em Daniel 7, onde o “Ancião de Dias”, referindo-se a Deus Pai, entrega o reino ao “Filho do Homem”, referindo-se ao Messias, Deus Filho.
Daniel 7:13-14 “Eu estava olhando nas minhas visões da noite, e eis que vinha com as nuvens do céu um como o Filho do Homem, e dirigiu-se ao Ancião de Dias, e o fizeram chegar até ele. E foi-lhe dado domínio, e glória, e um reino, para que todos os povos, nações e línguas o servissem; o seu domínio é um domínio eterno, que não passará, e o seu reino, o que jamais será destruído.”
Salmo 2:10-11 “Agora, pois, sede sábios, ó reis; deixai-vos instruir, juízes da terra. Servi ao Senhor com temor e alegrai-vos com tremor.”
Deus está a instruir os líderes do mundo a serem sábios e a regressarem à fé em Deus, a regressarem a um saudável “temor do Senhor”, que Salomão disse ser o princípio da sabedoria.
Provérbios 1:7 “O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria; mas os insensatos desprezam a sabedoria e a instrução.”
O apóstolo Paulo admoestou os seus seguidores de forma semelhante antes da sua morte.
Filipenses 2:12 “Portanto, meus amados, assim como sempre obedecestes, não só na minha presença, mas agora muito mais na minha ausência, desenvolvei a vossa salvação com temor e tremor.”
Salmo 2:12 “Beijai o Filho, para que não se irrite, e pereçais no caminho, quando em breve se acender a sua ira. Bem-aventurados todos os que nele confiam.”
As profecias predizem que, no fim, todo o joelho se dobrará e toda a língua confessará que Jesus Cristo é o Senhor.
Isaías 45:22-23: “Olhai para mim e sede salvos, vós, todos os confins da terra; porque eu sou Deus, e não há outro. Jurei por mim mesmo; a palavra da minha boca saiu em justiça e não voltará atrás: Que diante de mim se dobrará todo joelho, e toda língua jurará.”
Filipenses 2:10-11: “Para que ao nome de Jesus se dobre todo o joelho, nos céus, e na terra, e debaixo da terra, e toda a língua confesse que Jesus Cristo é o Senhor, para glória de Deus Pai.”
Por isso, os governantes deste mundo fariam bem a si mesmos e a nós se se arrependessem da sua perversidade e se prostrassem aos pés de Cristo. Bem-aventurados todos os que n’Ele confiam.
Apocalipse 22:14 “Bem-aventurados aqueles que guardam os seus mandamentos, para que tenham direito à árvore da vida e possam entrar na cidade pelas portas.”

God Isn't an Elephant
God Isn’t an Elephant

I’m a big fan of Mike Donehey, the lead singer of Tenth Avenue North, and host to their video journal on YouTube. He often shares how he receives inspiration for songs he has written, or funny stories that help him better understand God and His ways. One of my favorites is where he talks about how “God is not an elephant.”1 He knows this, he says, because he met him—not God; an elephant.When he was five years old, he went to the zoo and saw an elephant for the first time. The elephant put out his trunk, and little Mike thought it was a gesture of friendship. But nope, the elephant then sneezed all over little Mike’s foot. Needless to say, he wasn’t too fond of elephants after that.
He also figured that God couldn’t be an elephant. It was only when he got older that he realized how true that was. Not just because of the obvious reason elephants are animals and God is, well, God. And as the old saying goes, “An elephant never forgets”—whereas God, in His love for us, chooses to forget our sins when we are sorry and repent. God even describes Himself as the one who erases transgressions and “remembers your sins no more.”2
It’s hard to imagine that God would purposely forget something, especially if we try to put ourselves in His place by imagining ourselves doing the same for those who have wronged us. We may say we’ve forgiven someone, but sometimes “We bury the hatchet but leave the handle sticking out.”
The saying “burying the hatchet” comes from a Native American tradition where chiefs of tribes would bury a hatchet—or a tomahawk—signalling an act of peace. If you were to leave the handle sticking out so you could go back and get it if you needed to, that would be like forgiving, but not completely.
I know I’m certainly guilty of leaving the handle sticking out. I’ll forgive a friend, but then if we argue or I’m upset at them, I’ll bring up that thing they did in the past. Obviously, that’s not true forgiveness, and thankfully, that’s not how God is toward us.
No matter how much we deserve retribution, He sees past that and looks at our heart and our desire to do better. He sent us His only son, Jesus, who died on the cross, taking on the sins of the world. Through this great act of love, we are forgiven. He wipes our slates completely clean.
In Psalm 103 (one of my favorites), David writes: “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”3
An elderly woman was celebrating her 50th anniversary, and a younger woman asked her how she’d made her marriage work so well for so long. She answered that at the beginning of her married life, she decided to make a list of ten mistakes that she would always forgive her husband for. The young lady was curious and asked if she could see that list. “Well, I never did get around to writing it down,” she said, “but anytime he would do something that would make me boiling mad, I’d take a deep breath and tell myself, Lucky for him, that was one of the ten!”
I think that’s what Jesus meant when He said we should forgive others “seventy times seven” times.4 True forgiveness doesn’t keep count. Unlike the elephant, God forgives and forgets.

Sou uma grande fã de Mike Donehey, o vocalista da Tenth Avenue North, e acompanho seu canal no YouTube. Com frequência, ele compartilha como recebeu inspiração para canções que escreveu, ou histórias engraçadas que o ajudam a entender melhor Deus e Seus caminhos. Gosto muito daquela em que ele fala que “Deus não é um elefante.”1 E essa certeza, diz ele, é por causa de uma experiência pessoal que teve— não com Deus, mas com um elefante.
Quando Mike tinha cinco anos de idade, foi ao zoológico e viu um elefante pela primeira vez. O animal pôs sua tromba para fora do cercado, onde estava o garoto, que interpretou se tratar de um gesto de amizade. Mas não, o elefante espirrou bem no pé do menino. Não precisa explicar por que o músico passou a não gostar tanto de elefantes.
O cantor também percebeu, anos depois, que Deus não poderia ser um elefante. Além da razão óbvia de elefantes serem animais e Deus ser... bem... Deus, Mike aprendeu o ditado que ensina que “Um elefante nunca se esquece”, o que afasta de vez a possibilidade de ele ser Deus, que, como sabemos, em Seu amor por nós, escolhe esquecer nossos pecados quando nos arrependemos e pedimos perdão. Deus até Se descreve como Aquele que “apaga suas transgressões... e que não se lembra mais de seus pecados”.2
É difícil imaginar que Deus, propositadamente, esqueceria algo, especialmente se tentarmos nos colocar em Seu lugar, considerando como nos comportamos com relação àqueles que nos prejudicam. Infelizmente, às vezes “enterramos o machado, mas deixamos de fora o cabo”.
Isso remete a uma tradição nativa americana onde chefes de tribos enterravam seus machados —tomahawks— para simbolizar um acordo de paz. Deixar o cabo do machado para fora, ou seja, não enterrar a arma completamente, indicava a possibilidade de ela ser retomada se surgisse a necessidade. É o que fazemos quando não perdoamos completamente.
Sei que sou culpada de deixar o cabo do machado acessível. Posso perdoar um amigo, mas se surgir um desentendimento ou eu estiver chateada com ele, jogo na cara o que aconteceu no passado. Obviamente, isso não é perdão verdadeiro nem é como Deus age conosco, felizmente.
Não importa quanto mereçamos a retribuição, Ele vê o passado, mas também nosso coração e nosso desejo de melhorar. Enviou Seu único filho, Jesus, para morrer na cruz, assumindo os pecados do mundo. Por este grande ato de amor, somos perdoados. Ele limpa nossas fichas completamente.
No Salmo 103 (um dos meus favoritos), Davi escreve: “Não acusa sem cessar nem fica ressentido para sempre; não nos trata conforme os nossos pecados nem nos retribui conforme as nossas iniquidades. Pois como os céus se elevam acima da terra, assim é grande o Seu amor para com os que O temem; e como o Oriente está longe do Ocidente, assim Ele afasta para longe de nós as nossas transgressões. “3
Uma mulher que estava comemorando suas bodas de ouro foi abordada por outra, mais nova, que lhe perguntou: “Como fez para seu relacionamento ser tão bom por tanto tempo?” A senhora confidenciou que logo quando se casou, decidiu fazer uma lista de dez erros pelos quais ela sempre perdoaria seu marido. Curiosa, a jovem pediu para ver a lista. “Bem, na verdade, nunca a escrevi” — foi a resposta— “mas sempre que ele fazia algo que me deixava furiosa, eu respirava fundo e dizia para mim mesma: Sorte dele que foi um dos dez perdoáveis!”
Acho que é o que Jesus quis dizer quando ensinou que devemos perdoar os outros “70 vezes sete”.4 O verdadeiro perdão não guarda registros. Ao contrário do elefante, Deus perdoa e esquece.

Salmo 2 - “¿Por qué se amotinan las gentes, y los pueblos traman cosas vanas?”

El estudio de hoy se centrará en el Salmo 2.
Salmo 2:1: “¿Por qué se amotinan las gentes, y los pueblos traman cosas vanas?”
La primera línea del salmo parece describir el mundo actual. El mundo está furioso. Tenemos a negros contra blancos, conservadores contra liberales, pro-Palestina contra pro-Israel, pro-aborto contra anti-aborto, y la lista continúa. Parece que la división es rampante en todos los niveles y que los medios de comunicación la fomentan casi como si fuera parte de una agenda preparada.
En las Escrituras leemos sobre el tiempo antes del regreso de Cristo:
Lucas 21:25: “Entonces habrá señales en el sol, en la luna y en las estrellas, y en la tierra angustia de las gentes, confundidas por el bramido del mar y de las olas; desfalleciendo los hombres por el temor y la expectación de las cosas que sobrevendrán en la tierra…”
Con toda la confusión mundial, parece que los corazones de los hombres están furiosos y se está preparando el escenario para que la olla se desborde, como vimos en la Revolución Francesa de 1789, la Revolución Rusa de 1917 y con los disturbios de Black Lives Matter en 2020.
Al hablar de la segunda venida de Jesús, el apóstol Pablo advirtió:
2 Tesalonicenses 2:3: “Que nadie os engañe en ninguna manera; porque ese día no vendrá sin que primero venga la apostasía, y se manifieste el hombre de pecado, el hijo de perdición”.
El “hombre de pecado” o “hijo de perdición” es comúnmente conocido como el Anticristo o la bestia en el Nuevo Testamento. La profecía continúa:
2 Tesalonicenses 2:4-7-8a: “El cual se opone y se exalta contra todo lo que se llama Dios o es objeto de culto; tanto que se sienta en el templo de Dios como Dios, haciéndose pasar por Dios… Porque el misterio de la iniquidad (o anarquía) ya está en acción; solo que quien al presente lo detiene, lo detendrá hasta que sea quitado de en medio. Y entonces se manifestará ese inicuo…”
Lo que el apóstol Pablo dice es que el misterio de la anarquía terminará con la revelación de la figura del Anticristo. A medida que los hombres y mujeres piadosos, o al menos aquellos que simpatizan con las Leyes Divinas, sean retirados de la esfera de influencia, las fuerzas espirituales y físicas del mal cobrarán poder y fuerza; finalmente, el Anticristo se levantará.
Apocalipsis 12:15: “Y la serpiente arrojó de su boca, tras la mujer, agua como un río, para que fuese arrastrada por el río.”
Las fuerzas anti-Dios están provocando una avalancha de ideas falsas que invade gran parte de las instituciones de educación superior. La Teoría Crítica de la Raza y otras ideas similares se están incorporando a la educación de las generaciones más jóvenes.
Daniel 8:12b: “(Las fuerzas del Anticristo) echó por tierra la verdad; y la practicó, y prosperó.”
En las naciones occidentales anteriormente “cristianas”, hemos presenciado un alejamiento de la fe a medida que la cultura anti-Dios ha incursionado considerablemente a lo largo de los años con leyes y objetivos contrarios a Dios. En 1964, el aborto se legalizó en Estados Unidos y posteriormente se exportó a otras naciones de Sudamérica, África y Asia a través de diferentes paquetes de ayuda estadounidenses y de las Naciones Unidas. “¿Quieren la ayuda? Entonces sigan la agenda y modifiquen sus leyes para permitir estas prácticas.”
Salmo 2:1b “Y el pueblo imaginó cosas vanas”.
Desde la propagación de la Teoría de la Evolución en 1859 y todos los frutos diabólicos de esta teoría, la gente sin duda está imaginando cosas vanas. Creen que se crearon a sí mismos mediante un proceso imaginario que no presenta un mecanismo viable. Creen que el universo surgió de la nada y que no existe un Dios Creador.
Creen además que la vida surgió por casualidad durante millones de años y que accidentalmente la primera célula se formó en un estanque cálido y fangoso. Mediante la selección natural y las mutaciones, que no añaden nueva información biológica funcional al genoma, ese organismo unicelular supuestamente mutó en todas las formas de vida que vemos hoy en la Tierra. Sin duda, la gente está imaginando cosas vanas porque han eliminado a Dios de su pensamiento.
El fruto actual de tal pensamiento ha llevado a la situación actual donde la verdad ya no es “objetiva”, sino “subjetiva”. La realidad subjetiva de una persona prevalece sobre la realidad objetiva. Un hombre puede afirmar ser mujer, y una mujer puede afirmar ser hombre. Como escribió Salomón: “Vanidad de vanidades, todo es vanidad” [Eclesiastés 1:2]. Sin duda, la gente imagina cosas vanas porque Dios ya no está en su entendimiento.
Isaías es un poco más fuerte que Salomón y proclama:
Isaías 5:20-21a: "¡Ay de los que a lo malo llaman bueno, y a lo bueno malo; que hacen de la luz tinieblas, y de las tinieblas luz; que tienen lo amargo por dulce, y lo dulce por amargo! ¡Ay de los que son sabios en su propia opinión!"
Eso es lo que vemos hoy. Ideas y prácticas que tradicionalmente se han considerado malas ahora se consideran buenas.
Salmo 2:2-3: “Se levantarán los reyes de la tierra, y príncipes consultarán unidos contra el Señor y contra su ungido, diciendo: Rompamos sus ligaduras, y echemos de nosotros sus cuerdas”.
A lo largo de la historia, los gobernantes han tenido que elegir: trabajar para Dios y su reino, o trabajar en contra de Dios y su reino. Los gobernantes judíos y los funcionarios romanos conspiraron para matar a Cristo, el ungido de Dios. Hoy, los movimientos sociales y políticos conspiran contra Dios y su pueblo, quienes siempre intentan ser faros de verdad, justicia y paz. Las fuerzas del mal siembran división en las comunidades cristianas y hacen todo lo posible para impedir que el verdadero cristianismo tenga voz en la esfera pública.
Salmo 2:4-5: “El que mora en los cielos se reirá; el Señor se burlará de ellos. Entonces les hablará en su ira, y los afligirá con su ira”.
Los juicios de Dios se avecinan. Aunque tarden, vendrán. La palabra de Dios es verdadera. El mundo cosechará lo que ha sembrado.
Salmo 2:6: «Sin embargo, yo he puesto mi rey sobre Sión, mi santo monte».
Cuando Jesús regrese en la batalla de Armagedón para retomar la tierra,
Zacarías 14:4: «Se afirmarán sus pies en aquel día sobre el monte de los Olivos, que está frente a Jerusalén».
Salmo 2:7: «Yo publicaré el decreto; el Señor me ha dicho: «Mi Hijo eres tú; yo te he engendrado hoy».
Tanto el apóstol Pablo en Hechos 13:33 como el autor de Hebreos en Hebreos 1:5 y 5:5 citan el versículo anterior para defender que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.
Salmo 2:8-9: “Pídeme, y te daré por herencia las naciones, y como posesión tuya los confines de la tierra. Los quebrantarás con vara de hierro; los desmenuzarás como vasija de alfarero.”
En la profecía de Daniel 2, donde la imagen de las naciones gentiles es destruida por “la piedra cortada, no con mano”, leemos:
Daniel 2:35: “Entonces fueron desmenuzados también el hierro, el barro cocido, el bronce, la plata y el oro, y quedaron como tamo de las eras del verano; y se los llevó el viento sin que se les hallara lugar. Y la piedra que hirió a la imagen se convirtió en un gran monte que llenó toda la tierra.” Y la interpretación:
Daniel 2:44 “Y en los días de estos reyes, el Dios del cielo levantará un reino que no será jamás destruido; y el reino no será dejado a otro pueblo, sino que desmenuzará y consumirá a todos estos reinos, pero permanecerá para siempre”.
Una imagen similar se encuentra en Daniel 7, donde el “Anciano de Días”, refiriéndose a Dios Padre, entrega el reino al “Hijo del Hombre”, refiriéndose al Mesías, Dios Hijo.
Daniel 7:13-14 “Miraba yo en las visiones nocturnas, y he aquí, con las nubes del cielo venía uno como un Hijo de Hombre, que vino hasta el Anciano de Días, y le hicieron acercarse delante de él. Y le fue dado dominio, gloria y reino, para que todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas le sirvieran; su dominio es un dominio eterno, que nunca pasará, y su reino uno que no será destruido”.
Salmo 2:10-11: “Sean ahora sabios, oh reyes; instruíos, jueces de la tierra. Servid al Señor con temor, y alegraos con temblor.”
Dios instruye a los líderes del mundo a ser sabios y a regresar a la fe en Dios, a un sano “temor del Señor”, que Salomón dijo que era el principio del conocimiento.
Proverbios 1:7: “El temor del Señor es el principio del conocimiento; pero los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.”
El apóstol Pablo amonestó a sus seguidores de manera similar antes de morir.
Filipenses 2:12: “Por tanto, amados míos, como siempre habéis obedecido, no solo en mi presencia, sino mucho más ahora en mi ausencia, ocupaos en vuestra salvación con temor y temblor.”
Salmo 2:12: “Besen al Hijo, para que no se enoje y perezcan en el camino, cuando su ira se encienda apenas un poco. Bienaventurados todos los que en él confían”.
Las profecías predicen que finalmente toda rodilla se doblará y toda lengua confesará que Jesucristo es el Señor.
Isaías 45:22-23: “Miren a mí, y sean salvos, todos los confines de la tierra, porque yo soy Dios, y no hay más. Por mí mismo he jurado, y de mi boca ha salido palabra en justicia, y no será revocada: Que ante mí se doblará toda rodilla, y jurará toda lengua”.
Filipenses 2:10-11: “Para que en el nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodilla de los que están en los cielos, y en la tierra, y debajo de la tierra; y toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre”.
Por lo tanto, a los gobernantes del mundo les haría bien, tanto a ellos como a nosotros, si se arrepintieran de su perversidad y se postraran a los pies de Cristo. Benditos serán todos los que pongan su confianza en Él.
Apocalipsis 22:14: «Bienaventurados los que guardan sus mandamientos, para tener derecho al árbol de la vida y para entrar por las puertas en la ciudad».
