Psalm 62:2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

In Psalm 61, we went over the imagery of Jesus being the Rock cut out without hands who will come and smash the kingdoms of this world. He will set up His own eternal kingdom, where we shall live for ever and ever. Here’s the link to Psalm 61.

Psalm 62:3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

A bowing wall is one that is ready to collapse because its foundation is not strong enough to hold up what is constructed above it. The wall begins to bow and if not reinforced in some way; the whole building can collapse. If we are not building the house of our lives on the foundation of the rock Christ Jesus, the chief cornerstone, when the winds and rains of this life beat upon it, it shall collapse and be washed away. And great shall be the fall there of.

Psalm 62:4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

In reading the Epstein files we see how the wicked consult with one another to lie to someone else in power or with money. They set traps to catch men in order to control them or extract money. “His words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords,” Psalm 55:21.

In the last days during the time of the last wars in the Middle East, the leaders of the two factions, the pro-Israeli faction and the anti-Israeli faction, “shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper,” Daniel 11:27b. Apostle Paul has warned, 1 Thessalonians 5:3 “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. Just before the Iranian war, trump’s negotiators were speaking with Iran’s negotiators right up until the last minute. It seems it was all lies.

Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

Again, the theme is waiting on God in attentive hope and daily obedience, a vigilant waiting, like a night watchman.

Psalm 62:6-7 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

Jesus is the rock that we look to. The Rock of ages who was cleft for each of us. In Him is eternal life. He is our refuge and fortress. In Him do we trust.

Psalm 62:8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

As Apostle Paul has described in Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing (or don’t be worried); but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

As Solomon has confessed likewise in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” If we seek the Lord in our time of affliction or distress, He will answer.

Proverbs 14:26 “In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and His children shall have a place of refuge.”

Psalm 62:9-10 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

In the day of trouble our money or position of power in the world will not save us.

Ezekiel 7:19a “They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord.” Proverbs 11:4 “Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.”

Deuteronomy 8:17-18a “And thou say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is He that gives thee power to get wealth.”

Psalm 62:11 God has spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongs unto God.

Promotion comes from the Lord. He sets up some and brings down others.

Psalm 75:6-7 ”For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he puts down one, and sets up another.” Daniel 2:21b “He removes kings, and sets up kings.”

Psalm 62:12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongs mercy: for You render to every man according to his work.

It is not by works of righteousness that we have done, but it is according to His mercy that He saves us. However, once we are saved, we should desire to bring forth fruit in His service, in thanksgiving for all He has done for us.

1 Corinthians 3:8-15 

“Now he that plants and he that waters are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master-builder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds thereon. But let every man take heed how he builds thereupon.

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abides which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”

2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every man receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.”

Revelation 2:23b “… and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the reins and hearts and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.”

Even the unrighteous wicked shall be judged according to their works.

Revelation 20:12b&13b “… and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. …. And they were judged every man according to their works.

Revelation 22:12&14 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according to his work shall be. … Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”

One day He will say to His obedient servants or labourers, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant, … enter thou into the joy of your Lord,” Matthew 25:23ac

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waits upon God: from Him comes my salvation.

A common theme throughout the Scripture is that of “waiting on the Lord.” In Habakkuk 2:3 we read, “For the vision is yet for a time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.”

In Psalm 27:13-14 we find, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”

In Isaiah 40:30-31 “Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fail: but they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

The waiting is keeping that strong personal relationship with the Lord. It’s staying attentive to His still small voice throughout the day. It is not forgetting what the Lord has said in His word. It is incorporating the heavenly vision into our daily lives. It’s keeping the vision that our home is not here, but rather, that we are strangers and pilgrims upon the earth.

Jesus gave various warnings about those waiting for His return to stay active in His work and obedient to their calling. He warned in Mark 4:18-19, “And these are they which are sown among the thorns; such as hear the word, and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word and it becomes unfruitful.” They lose the heavenly vision because they are overly occupied with the earthly one.

Jesus also spoke of the ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom. The story goes, “As the bridegroom tarried, they slumbered and slept.” Matthew 25:4. Sleeping on the job, doesn’t have a happy ending. However, five of the virgins were sufficiently obedient, that they had oil in their lamps. The oil represents the Holy Spirit. Samuel poured oil upon the heads of Saul and later David. As Samuel did so, he prayed, they would receive the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 5:32, we read, “God gives the Holy Spirit to them that obey Him.” The five virgins had kept busy with the Lord’s work while they were waiting for His return. They hadn’t let the cares of this world, or the deceitfulness of sin enter in. They had kept their eyes on Jesus. They kept looking unto Him. They had stayed faithful to their calling.

The other five virgins weren’t as faithful. They knew they Lord would be returning, but they didn’t have sufficient oil in their lamps. Suddenly the word came that the Lord was returning. The foolish virgins were unprepared. They thought they could start being more obedient tomorrow. When the call came, they were unprepared. Instead of having oil in their lamps, through their constant obedience to the Lord, they had slacked off. They were negligent. Their lamps had gone out.

They had fallen asleep, like Jesus disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus had warned them to watch and pray lest they fall into temptation. The five virgins hadn’t watched and prayed. They hadn’t stayed vigilant. They slept and were disobedient to their heavenly calling. Like Demas, Apostle Paul’s follower, they had loved this present world, more than the heavenly one.

They had forgotten their first love. Their love had cooled off and they had become lukewarm. They became preoccupied with the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. We need to be waiting on the Lord, not sleeping, not eating and drinking and partying. The Lord may come at a moment for us, and we be not ready.

Luke 21:34-36 “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with over eating, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares, For as a snare it shall come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always, that you be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

Matthew 24:42-51 “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore, be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man comes. Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. Verily I say unto you, that he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; And shall begin to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looks not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of.  And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Watch therefore, lest we be like the five foolish virgins, who had not sufficient oil and their lamps and had to go off to buy. They were left wanting, and the door was shut.

Matthew 25:11-13 “Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes.”

It’s the same warning again. The Lord is repeating Himself. He wants us to get the message. He saying the same thing over and over in the Scriptures. He hopes if we don’t hear it one way, we will hear it other.

Does the parable mean at the Rapture only the true active believers will be received in the 1st resurrection? Does it mean the lukewarm church will be left behind and will pass through the wrath of God? Does it mean that the false Christian who did many mighty miracles in His name, but never knew Him will get judgment similar to the unbelieving wicked?

It is yet to be seen, but it certainly sounds that way. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Therefore, we should work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of understanding. The conclusion of the whole matter is to fear God and keep His commandments. Fear not them that can kill the body, but rather fear Him who can cast both body and soul into outer darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth by those who were not prepared, who were not obedient, who knew their Lord’s will, and didn’t do it.

James 1:22 "Be ye doers of the word, not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves."

Matthew 7:21-29 (please read)

To be obedient unto the Lord, we need to wait on the Lord, by spending time with Him in prayer. We need to wait on the Lord, by spending time reading and meditating on His word. We need to wait on the Lord, by putting into practise, in whatever way, big or small, how His word speaks to us. We need to follow through on the little nudges in the Spirit which we receive during our quiet times, when are hearts and minds are stayed upon Him. 

If we do these things, our waiting on the Lord will bring forth fruit in our lives and in due season we shall reap if we faint not.
