Depois de olhar para o céu estrelado através de um dos telescópios recentemente melhorados, William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) terá dito: "Acho que afinal não importa quem ganha as eleições." E o Bryan deveria saber. Teve mais votos no Colégio Eleitoral do que qualquer outro candidato presidencial e, mesmo assim, perdeu. Mesmo tendo acumulado cerca de 493 votos no Colégio Eleitoral, mais do que qualquer outro candidato presidencial, ainda assim perdeu as eleições. Isto porque estes 493 votos no Colégio Eleitoral foram distribuídos por três eleições presidenciais: 1896, 1900 e 1908. Henry Clay foi o único outro homem que também perdeu três candidaturas presidenciais.

Mas mesmo antes de perder as eleições, depois de olhar para cima através de um telescópio recentemente melhorado, Bryan percebeu que, embora a eleição lhe parecesse de tamanha importância naquele momento e para os homens do seu tempo, havia uma força a manter os planetas e as estrelas no seu rumo tão poderosa e impressionante que a eleição parecia minúscula em comparação.

Outros grandes homens antes e depois de Bryan chegaram à mesma conclusão. Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) disse: "Consigo ver como é possível um homem olhar para a Terra e ser ateu, mas não consigo conceber como poderia olhar para o céu e dizer: 'Não há Deus'."

Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727), outro homem com um telescópio, tinha expressado a mesma ideia alguns anos antes. "Este belíssimo sistema do sol, planetas e cometas só poderia proceder do conselho e domínio de um Ser inteligente e poderoso... Este Ser governa todas as coisas, não como a alma do mundo, mas como Senhor de tudo; e por causa do Seu domínio, Ele costuma ser chamado de Senhor Deus, ou Governante Universal.”

Werner von Braun (1912-1977), que ajudou a lançar os Estados Unidos para o espaço exterior como um dos principais engenheiros da indústria aeroespacial americana, afirmou: “Para mim, a ideia de uma criação não é concebível sem invocar a necessidade de design. Não se pode ser exposto à lei e à ordem do universo sem concluir que deve haver design e propósito”.

O que estes homens estão a dizer é que acreditam que existe um Deus e que Ele está, em última análise, no controlo.

Albert Einstein (1879-1955), que não era uma pessoa religiosa e não acreditava num Deus pessoal, disse algo semelhante: “…os sentimentos religiosos dos cientistas assumem a forma de um espanto arrebatador perante a harmonia da lei natural, que revela uma inteligência de tal superioridade que, comparada com ela, todo o pensamento e acção sistemáticos dos seres humanos são um reflexo totalmente insignificante.” Por outras palavras, comparados com esta superinteligência, todos os nossos esforços, pensamentos e ações eram completamente insignificantes.

No livro dos Salmos, da antiga Bíblia hebraica, encontramos o rei David a escrever há cerca de 3000 anos: “Os céus declaram a glória de Deus; e o firmamento anuncia a obra das suas mãos. Um dia profere discurso a outro dia; uma noite revela conhecimento a outra noite. Não falam, não proferem palavras; nenhum som se ouve deles. Contudo, a sua voz ressoa por toda a terra, e as suas palavras, até aos confins do mundo.” [Salmo 19:1-3 (NVI)]

Um pensamento semelhante encontra-se no Novo Testamento grego, nas palavras do Apóstolo Paulo: “Pois os seus atributos invisíveis, o seu eterno poder e a sua divindade, são claramente vistos desde a criação do mundo, sendo compreendidos por meio das coisas criadas; de modo que somos inescusáveis.” [Romanos 1:20] Ambos os autores, o Rei David e o Apóstolo Paulo, estão a dizer que, se olharmos para a natureza, veremos a mão de Deus e que Ele está no controlo.

Até o livro de Job considerado a Escritura mais antiga conservada, provavelmente do tempo de Abraão ou antes, antes de 2000 a.C., afirma: “Mas pergunta agora aos animais, e eles te ensinarão; e às aves do céu, e elas te farão saber. Ou fala à terra, e ela te ensinará; e os peixes do mar te declararão. Quem não sabe, em tudo isto, que a mão do Senhor fez isto? Em cujas mãos está a alma de todo ser vivente e o fôlego de toda a humanidade.” [Jó 12:7-10] Jó está a dizer-nos para olharmos para a natureza, para a biologia e para a geologia se duvidamos da existência de Deus. Ele está a dizer que Deus tem a alma de cada ser vivo nas Suas mãos. Ele tem o mundo inteiro nas Suas mãos.

Até Jesus usa o mesmo argumento no seu Sermão da Montanha. Diz-nos que, se Deus se preocupa tanto com as aves e com as flores do campo, não cuidará de cada um de nós? Ele continua a dizer-nos para não nos preocuparmos. [Mateus 6:26-34] Porque não nos devemos preocupar? Porque Deus sabe até a quantidade de cabelos na nossa cabeça e promete cuidar de nós tal como cuida dos pardais, dos quais nenhum cai por terra sem que Ele o saiba. [Mateus 10:20-31]

Portanto, podemos olhar para a eleição e ficar preocupados que Deus não esteja no controlo e que as coisas não estejam a correr como achamos que deveriam. Mas Deus disse-nos que Ele pode endireitar um caminho torto, como dizemos em Portugal: “Deus faz linhas retas, por caminhos tortos”, ou Deus faz uma linha reta de um caminho torto. Ou como lemos em Isaías: “Porque os meus pensamentos não são os vossos pensamentos, nem os vossos caminhos os meus caminhos”, oráculo do Senhor. “Assim como os céus são mais altos do que a terra, assim são os meus caminhos mais altos do que os vossos caminhos, e os meus pensamentos, mais altos do que os vossos pensamentos.” [Isaías 55:8-9 (NVI)]

A Palavra de Deus ensina claramente que uma das forças espirituais por detrás dos sistemas deste mundo é Satanás. Diz-nos o apóstolo João: “Não ameis o mundo nem as coisas do mundo. Se alguém ama o mundo, o amor do Pai não está nele”. [1 João 2:15] E Ele continua escrevendo: “Sabemos que somos de Deus, e que o mundo inteiro jaz no Maligno.” [1 João 5:19] Jesus disse: “Se vós fôsseis do mundo, o mundo amaria o que era seu; mas, porque não sois do mundo, antes eu vos escolhi do mundo, por isso é que o mundo vos odeia.” [João 15:19]

O apóstolo Tiago, irmão de Jesus, advertiu: “Adúlteros e adúlteras, não sabeis que a amizade com o mundo é inimizade contra Deus? Portanto, qualquer que quiser ser amigo do mundo constitui-se inimigo de Deus.” [Tiago 4:4] Até Lucas, na sua descrição da tentação de Jesus pelo Diabo, escreve: “E o Diabo, levando-o a um alto monte, mostrou-lhe num momento de tempo todos os reinos do mundo. E disse-lhe o Diabo: Dar-te-ei todo este poder e a sua glória, porque me foi entregue, e dou-o a quem eu quiser. Portanto, se me adorares, tudo será teu.” [Lucas 4:5-7]

O apóstolo Paulo colaborou com estas Escrituras ao acrescentar: “O deus deste século cegou os entendimentos dos incrédulos, para que não lhes resplandeça o Evangelho da glória de Cristo, que é a imagem de Deus, e sejam salvos.” [2 Coríntios 4:4] Ele disse-nos que há forças espirituais do mal nas regiões celestiais, [Efésios 6:12], mas continuou dizendo: “Mas em nada disto me abalou, nem tenho a minha vida por preciosa, contanto que complete com alegria a minha carreira e o ministério que recebi do Senhor Jesus, para testemunhar o evangelho da graça de Deus.” [Atos 20:24]

Aconteça o que acontecer aqui na Terra, é nossa tarefa manter a mente e o coração na visão celestial, para continuar a “olhar para Jesus, autor e consumador da nossa fé.” [Hebreus 12:2] Ele dar-nos-á a paz perfeita se mantivermos a mente firme n’Ele, pois confiamos n’Ele. [Isaías 26:3]

Nos Salmos, lê-se: “Os céus são os céus do Senhor, mas a terra, Ele deu-a aos filhos dos homens.” [Salmo 115:16] Deus concedeu à humanidade o livre-arbítrio. Pelo nosso conhecimento das profecias bíblicas, sabemos que a humanidade não escolherá seguir a Deus. Jesus disse-nos que muitos escolherão o caminho largo que conduz à destruição. [Mateus 7:13] Portanto, podemos concluir que os homens podem muito bem fazer escolhas erradas nas suas políticas. Alguns acreditam que ambos os partidos políticos, de direita ou de esquerda, são controlados pelos mesmos poderes financeiros e/ou espirituais que podem e irão manipular ambos os lados para atingir os seus desejos e objectivos. No livro do Apocalipse, lê-se: "Porque os teus mercadores eram os grandes da terra; porque todas as nações foram enganadas pelas tuas feitiçarias." [Apocalipse 18:23b]

O apóstolo Paulo escreveu ao seu discípulo Timóteo dizendo: "Sabe, porém, isto: nos últimos dias sobrevirão tempos trabalhosos"... (e) "os homens maus e enganadores irão de mal a pior, enganando e sendo enganados." [2 Timóteo 3:1 e 13] Mas chegará o tempo em que Deus precisará de intervir e dizer: "Parem o mundo!" Ele virá para "destruir os que destroem a terra." [Apocalipse 11:18] Parece que as coisas ficarão tão más no futuro que a humanidade poderá até estar pronta para se destruir a si própria, se Deus não intervier. Como disse Jesus: "Se aqueles dias não forem abreviados, ninguém se salvará; mas por causa dos escolhidos serão abreviados aqueles dias." [Mateus 24:23]

O versículo que resume qual deve ser a nossa atitude em relação aos resultados das eleições encontra-se em Romanos 8:28. “Sabemos que todas as coisas cooperam para o bem daqueles que amam a Deus, daqueles que são chamados segundo o seu propósito.” Cada um de nós foi chamado para o Seu propósito. Ouvimos o Seu chamamento e respondemos. Agora temos o Seu propósito escondido nos nossos corações. Percebemos que Deus pode e fará o bem em cada situação aparentemente má ou má em que nos encontramos. Em Provérbios, lê-se: “O Senhor fez todas as coisas para Si; sim, até o ímpio para o dia do mal.” [Provérbios 16:4] Deus tem um plano até para aqueles que O rejeitam, embora não tenha prazer na sua morte [Ezequiel 33:11] e deseja que todos sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade. [1 Timóteo 2:4] O Senhor, através de Isaías, disse: “Eu formo a luz e crio as trevas; eu faço a paz e crio o mal; eu, o Senhor, faço todas estas coisas”. [Isaías 45:7]

O Senhor deu à humanidade o livre-arbítrio. Para que exista livre-arbítrio, é necessário que exista a possibilidade do mal. Para que o amor verdadeiro exista, o livre-arbítrio tem de existir. O amor verdadeiro depende do livre-arbítrio. Deus deu à humanidade o livre-arbítrio, sabendo que o homem abusaria dele e escolheria o mal em vez do bem. Mas Deus sabe como nos ensinar sobre as nossas más escolhas. Ele também providenciou as nossas más escolhas, enviando uma solução para os nossos problemas, dando-nos uma saída. Ele próprio veio à humanidade e viveu a vida perfeita, oferecendo-nos o caminho da salvação, se apenas o aceitássemos.

Portanto, sim, tudo está, em última análise, sob o controlo de Deus. Ele deu-nos o livre-arbítrio para fazermos o que quisermos. Mas, nos bastidores, Ele está a trabalhar silenciosamente, secretamente, para nos atrair a todos para Si. Por isso, não importa quem ganha as eleições, o mau ou o bom, o melhor ou o pior, o certo ou o errado; Deus deixará o homem tomar as suas próprias decisões, mas, em última análise, Ele usará essas decisões para cumprir o Seu propósito. Ele está a chamar-nos para o Seu lar, para os Seus braços, para o Seu mandamento de nos amarmos uns aos outros.

Pelo nosso conhecimento das profecias bíblicas, sabemos que a humanidade, em última análise, não tomará as decisões certas. A humanidade tomará as decisões erradas e acabará nas mãos do Filho da Perdição. [Apocalipse 13:4-8; 2 Tessalonicenses 2:3] Sabemos que estamos cada vez mais perto do cumprimento destas profecias do fim dos tempos. Muitos de nós estudamos as profecias há quarenta anos ou mais. Sabemos o que esperar. Sabemos que aqueles dias de "angústia de Jacob" ou "Grande Tribulação" serão difíceis. Mas também sabemos que Ele estará connosco e nos ajudará e fortalecerá nestes dias maus, e "o povo que conhece o seu Deus tornar-se-á forte e fará proezas". [Daniel 11:32b]

Por isso, podemos dizer com William Jennings Bryan: “Acho que, afinal, não importa realmente quem ganha as eleições.” Deus está, em última análise, no controlo e resolverá as coisas para o nosso bem. Deus está connosco. Ele separará as ovelhas dos bodes, [Mateus 25:32] o trigo do joio no Seu regresso. [Mateus 13:24-30] Ele admoesta-nos a não temermos [Isaías 41:10] e a continuarmos ocupados com a obra do Seu Pai de ganhar corações, almas e mentes para o Seu reino. “Bem-aventurado aquele servo a quem o seu Senhor, quando vier, encontrar a fazer assim.” [Mateus 24:46] Jesus disse: “Sê fiel até à morte, e dar-te-ei a coroa da vida.” [Apocalipse 2:10b]

Deus declarou “o fim desde o princípio, e desde a antiguidade as coisas que ainda não sucederam, dizendo: O meu conselho permanecerá de pé, e farei toda a minha vontade”. [Isaías 46:10] Confie n’Ele. Ele tem o mundo inteiro nas Suas mãos, e no final tudo correrá bem!

Pós-escrito: Preciso de acrescentar um comentário. Isto não quer dizer que não deva votar e que não interessa. Um partido pode muito bem estar mais alinhado com a opinião de Deus do que os outros. Ore e peça a Deus que lhe mostre o que deve fazer. Os homens maus triunfam muitas vezes porque os homens bons não fazem nada. Não seja um indolente, seja um benfeitor. Um partido pode ser menos maligno do que o outro. Peça discernimento a Deus e vote de acordo com os princípios bíblicos e não de acordo com o partido que o tornará mais rico.

No final do dia, a nossa fé está em Deus, que Ele nos salvará e proverá por nós, não num partido político. No entanto, um partido pode ser melhor do que o outro e seguir mais de perto os valores que acreditamos serem importantes. Por amor de Deus, siga a Deus!

I Guess It Doesn't Really Matter Who Wins the Election After All!

After looking through one of the newly improved telescopes at the starry night sky, William Jennings Bryan (1860 – 1925)  is recorded to have said, “I guess it doesn’t really matter who wins the election after all.” And Bryan should know. He had more electoral votes than any other Presidential candidate and yet he lost. Even though he accumulated some 493 Electoral College votes, more than any other Presidential candidate, he still lost the election. That’s because those 493 electoral votes were spread out over three Presidential elections: 1896, 1900, 1908. Henry Clay was the only other man who also lost three Presidential bids.

But even before losing the election, after looking up through a newly improved telescope, Bryan came to realization that though the election seemed of such importance to him at that moment and to the men of his time, yet there was a force holding the planets and stars in their course so powerful and awesome that the election seemed miniscule in comparison.

Other great men before and after Bryan have come to the same conclusion. Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865) had said, “I can see how it is possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but  I cannot conceive how he could look up into the heaven and say, “There is no God.”

Sir Isaac Newton (1642 – 1727) another man with a telescope had expressed the same idea some years earlier. “This most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being…This Being governs all things, not as the soul of the world, but as Lord over all; and on account of His dominion He is wont to be called Lord God, or Universal Ruler.”

Werner von Braun (1912 – 1977) who helped launch America into outer space as one of the top engineers in America’s Aerospace industry said, “For me, the idea of a creation is not conceivable without invoking the necessity of design. One cannot be exposed to the law and order of the universe without concluding that there must be design and purpose.”

What these men are saying is that they believe that there is a God and that He is ultimately in control.

Albert Einstein (1879 – 1955), not a religious person and who did not believe in a personal God, nevertheless said something similar: “…scientist’s religious feelings take the form of rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection.” In other words, compared to that super intelligence all our striving, thinking, and acting were utterly insignificant.

In  the book of Psalms from the ancient Hebrew Bible, we find King David around 3,000 years ago  writing, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” [Psalm 19:1-3 (NIV)] 

 A similar thought is found in the Greek New Testament in the words of Apostle Paul, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and God head; so we are without excuse.” [Romans 1:20] Both these authors, King David and Apostle Paul are saying that if we look at nature we will see the hand of God and that He’s in control.

Even the book of Job, believed to be the oldest preserved Scripture, probably from about the time of Abraham or earlier, prior to 2000BC,  states, “But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee. Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knows not in all these that the hand of the Lord has wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.” [Job 12:7-10] Job is telling us to look at nature, to look at biology, and to look at geology  if we doubt there is a God. He is saying that God has the soul of every living creature in His hands. He’s got the whole world in His hands.

Even Jesus makes the same argument in his sermon on the mount. He tells us if God so cares for the birds of the field and the flowers of the field, will He not take care of each one of us? He goes on to tell us not to worry. [Matthew 6:26-34] Why should we not worry? Because God even knows the amount of the hairs on our heads and promises to take care of us just as He cares for the sparrows, not one of which falls to the ground without Him knowing. [Matthew 10:20-31]

So we may look at the election and be worried that God is not in control and things are not going the way we think they should. But God has told us that He can make a crooked path straight, like we say in Portugal: “Deus faz linhas retas, por caminhos  tortos,” or God makes a straight line out of a crooked one. Or as we read in Isaiah: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.  “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” [Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)]

God’s word clearly teaches that one of the spiritual forces behind the systems of this world is Satan. The Apostle John tells us, “Love not the world nor the things of the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” [1 John 2:15] And, He goes on to write, ”We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.” [1 John 5:19]  Jesus said, “If you were of the world the world would love its own, but because you are not of the world, but  I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” [John 15:19

Apostle James, Jesus’ brother warned, “You adulterers and adulteresses know ye not that the friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” [James 4:4] Even Luke, in his depiction of Jesus’ temptation by the Devil writes , “And the Devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the Devil said onto him, All this power will I give unto thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whosoever I will I give it. If thou therefore will worship me, all shall be thine. [Luke 4:5-7]

Apostle Paul has collaborated with these Scripture by adding, “The God of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, less the glorious Gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them and they should be saved.” [2 Corinthians 4:4] He told us that there is spiritual wickedness in high places, [Ephesians 6:12] but he went on to say that, “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” [Acts 20:24]

 Whatever happens here on earth it is our job to keep our mind and heart on the heavenly vision, to keep “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” [Hebrews 12:2] He will give us perfect peace if we keep our minds stayed on Him for we trust in Him. [Isaiah 26:3]

In the Psalms we read,  “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of men.” [Psalm 115:16] God has given mankind free will. From our knowledge of Bible prophecy we know that mankind will not choose to follow God. Jesus has told us that many will choose the broad way that leads to destruction. [Matthew 7:13] Therefore, we can conclude that men may very well make the wrong the choices in their politics. Some believe that both political parties, either right or left, are controlled by the same financial and or spiritual powers who can and will manipulate either side for their desires and goals. In the book of Revelation we read, "for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived." [Revelation 18:23b ]

Apostle Paul wrote to his disciple Timothy saying, "This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come"...(and) "evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." [12 Timothy 3:1 & 13] But the time will come when God will need to step in and say “Stop the world!” He will come to “destroy them that destroy the earth.” [Revelation 11:18] It looks like things will get so bad in the future that mankind may even be ready to destroy itself, if God did not intervene. Like Jesus said, “Unless those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” [Matthew 24:23]

The verse summarizing on what our attitude should be toward the election results is found in Romans 8:28. “We know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” Each one of us have been called to His purpose. We heard His call and responded. We now have His purpose hidden in our hearts. We realize that God can and will bring good out of every  seemingly evil or bad situation we find ourselves in. In the Proverbs  we read, “The Lord has made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.” [Proverbs 16:4] God even has a plan for those that reject Him, though He has no pleasure in their death [Ezekiel 33:11] and would that they all be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. [1 Timothy 2:4]  The Lord through Isaiah said, “I form light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.” [Isaiah 45:7]

The Lord has given mankind free will. In order for free will to exist, the possibility of evil must exist. In order for true love to exist, free will must exist. True love is dependent on free will. God gave mankind free will knowing that man would abuse it and choose evil over good. But God knows how to teach us from our bad choices. He also has made provision for our bad choices by sending a solution to our problem, giving us a way of escape. He Himself came into humanity and lived the perfect life offering us the way of salvation if we would but take it.

So, yes, everything is ultimately in God’s control. He has given us free will to do as we please. But behind the scenes He is working quietly, secretly to woo us all to Himself. So, no matter who wins the election, the bad or the good, the better or the worse, the right or the wrong; God will let man make his own decisions, but ultimately He will use those decisions to accomplish His purpose . He is calling us all home to Himself, to His arms, to His command to love one another.

From our knowledge of Bible prophecy we know that mankind will not ultimately make the right decisions. Mankind will make the wrong decisions and end up in the hands of the Son of Perdition. [Revelation 13:4-8; 2 Thessalonians 2:3] We know we are moving closer and closer to the fulfilment of those end time prophecies. Many of us have studied the prophecies forty or more years. We know what to expect. We know those days of “Jacob’s trouble” or “Great Tribulation” will be difficult. But we also know that He will be with us and will be helping and empowering us in those evil days, and “the people who know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” [Daniel 11:32b]

Therefore, we can say with William Jennings Bryan: “I guess it really doesn’t matter who wins the election after all.” God is ultimately in control and will work things out for our good. God is with us. He will separate the sheep from the goats, [Matthew 25:32] the wheat from the tares on His return. [Matthew 13:24-30] He admonishes us to fear not [Isaiah 41:10] and keep about His Father’s business of winning hearts, souls, and minds into His kingdom. “Blessed is that servant, whom his Lord when He comes shall find so doing.” [Matthew 24:46] Jesus said, "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give you a crown of life." [Revelation 2:10b]

God has declared “the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” [Isaiah 46:10] Trust Him. He does have the whole world in His hands, and it will all work out in the end for good!

Post Script: I need to add a comment. That's not to say you shouldn't vote and that it doesn't matter. One party may very well be more in line with God's opinion than the others. Pray and ask God to show you what you should do. Evil men triumph often because good men do nothing. Don't be a do nothing-er, be do  good-er. One party may be less evil than the other. Ask God for discernment and vote in line with Biblical principles and not according which party will make you richer. 

In the end, our faith is in God, that He will save us and provide for us, not in a political party. However, one party may be better than the other and follow more closely the values we believe are important. For God's sake, follow God!

'I guess it really doesn't matter who wins the election after all!'

William Jennings Bryan was an American political leader, a Christian, who ran for President 3 times but was defeated each time. He lived from 1860-1925.  He was a firm advocate of peace, not war. Shortly before his death he faced Clarence Darrow in the Scopes Monkey Trial against evolution. He was a great politician, as well as a Christian statesman.[1] 

"One day before the up and coming election he had a chance to look through one of the new scientific devices called a telescope. He spent some time looking through the telescope at the night sky. 

His friends that were with him were amazed. The great eloquent speaker, the great William Jennings Bryan  was just stunned to silence! He stopped talking and looked again into the telescope for quite some time. Then he turned away and walked away silently for several minutes. He shook his head and said those famous words, 'I guess it really doesn't matter who wins the election after all!' And he lost it, too! But God's plan went on. Perhaps one reason he lost the election was because he was too good a man to win it, too honest, too Christian, too outspoken in his opposition to Evolution & the Devil & the anti-Christ spirit of the age."[2] 

I suppose what ever happens with the American elections we can take heart from Jennings conclusion. God is ultimately in control of the heavens above. He is the force, the sustaining power that keeps the universe and everything in it running properly towards the final destination. The kingdom of man under Satan's influence will come to an end one day. God's will will be ultimately fulfilled. It will be done. Let us pray "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." At the end of book of Revelation  we read, "He which testifies these things says, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus." Let that be our prayer in Jesus' name. Amen 

I will finish with a quote from Apostle Paul.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness; Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 

In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.[3]
