How good and how pleasant it is for the brethren to dwell
together in unity.
“All that believed were together and had all things common;
and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man
had need. And they continuing daily with one accord in the temple and breaking
bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of
heart, praising God. … And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be
saved.”
“And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart
and of one soul: neither said any of them that aught of the things he possessed
was his own; but they had all things common. And great power gave the apostle
witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon the
all. Neither was their any among them that lacked; for as many as were
possessors of lands or houses sold them, … and distribution was made unto every
man according as he had need.”
“Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I might have
eternal life? … Verily I say unto you, … everyone that has forsaken houses, or
brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for
My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting
life.”
“For we brought nothing into the world, and it is certain we
can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content:
but they which are rich fall under temptation and a snare, and unto many
foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.”
“For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while
some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows. But, you, O man of God, flee these things; and
follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight
the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto you are called and
has professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
“Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not
high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us
richly all things to enjoy. That they do good, that they be rich in good works,
ready to distribute, willing to give to the needy; laying up in store for
themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold
on eternal life.”
“There is that makes himself rich, yet has nothing: there is
that makes himself poor, yet has great riches.” “The liberal soul shall be made
fat; and he that waters shall be watered also himself. He that withholds corn,
the people shall curse him: but blessings shall be upon the head of him that
sells it.”
“Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed
down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom: for with what measure that you mete, withal it
shall be measured to you again.”
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and
rust do corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and
where thieves do not break through and steal: for where your treasure is, there
will your heart be also.”
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other: … You cannot serve God and mammon. … Therefore, take no thought, saying, what shall we eat, or what shall we drink, or what shall we put on? … For your heavenly Father knows you have need of all these things. …But seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
“So likewise, whosoever be of you that forsakes not
all that he has, he cannot be My disciple.”
