What's the reason for these lists of people in these first few chapters of Chronicles? The reason is that the Bible is not a mytholigical collection of stories, but a historical document. The Old Testament in particular has been found to be historically accurate to an extreme, so much so, that scientists have used it in their search for archaeological remains. The remains of ancient cities, palaces, and the like have been found as a result of taking the Biblical text as historical and not mytholigical. The Old Testament is an accurate historical document and as such should be a strong indication of societies not so ancient past. - Dennis Edwards
