Who Are the Mighty and the Holy People of Daniel 8:24? - Part 4
When We Look Further at the Ten Horns of Daniel 7 What Do We Find?
Daniel 7: 19 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse
from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his
nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with
his feet; 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other
which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and
a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his
fellows. 21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed
against them; 22 Until the Ancient of days came,
and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that
the saints possessed the kingdom.
We see the Antichrist warring
with his allies against God’s people during the great tribulation period until
Christ returns to retake the earthly kingdom. The Battle of Armageddon seen in
Revelation 19 is where Christ takes over the kingdom. At that time the kings of
the earth will be judged, as will the Antichrist. It is during the Millennium,
the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth, that the saints will possess the
kingdom.
Revelation 20:4 And I
saw the thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and
I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus and for the
word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither
had receievd his mark upon their foreheads,or in their hands; and they lived
and reigned with Christ (upon planet earth) a thousand years.
Continuing in Daniel, we read,
Daniel 7: 23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon
earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole
earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. 24 And the ten horns out of this
kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after
them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words
against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and
think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a
time and times and the dividing of time.
Daniel 7: 26 But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume
and to destroy it unto the end. 27 And the kingdom and
dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be
given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an
everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
God is the ultimate Judge. The Antichrist and his kingdom will be judged, as will the kings of the earth. The saints shall then rule and reign with Christ for that 1,000 year Millennial period just as we read from in Revelation,
Revelation 20:4c … and they lived and reigned with
Christ a thousand years.
Where Else Have We Seen the Numeral Ten in the Prophecies of
Daniel?
In Nebuchadnezzer’s dream the
ten horns or kings are seen as ten toes on the feet of the great image of a
man. Let us look at Nebuchadnezzer’s dream.
Daniel 2:31 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image,
whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was
terrible. 32 This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of
silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 33 His legs
of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. 34 Thou
sawest till that a stone
was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of
iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
Daniel 2:35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold,
broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer
threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for
them: and the stone that
smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
Daniel 2:37 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath
given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. 38 And
wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of
the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them
all. Thou art this head of
gold.
Daniel 2:39 And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and
another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. 40 And
the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in
pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it
break in pieces and bruise.
Daniel 2:41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the
kingdom shall be divided;
but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest
the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were
part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and
partly broken.
Daniel 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall
mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to
another, even as iron is
not mixed with clay. 44 And in the days of these
kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed:
and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces
and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Daniel 2: 45 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the
mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the
clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what
shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation
thereof sure.
In Nebuchadnezzer’s dream, the
10 kings that join with the Antichrist are depicted as the ten toes. Some are
made of clay and some are made of iron. Symbolically that is representative of
the fact that some of those nations will be stronger politically than the
others. A dictatorship would be considered a strong “iron” government. While a
democracy controlled by the people would be looked at as a “clay” or “broken”
or weaker government.
Nebuchadnezzer’s image had two iron legs and the feet and toes were partly iron and partly clay. Some Bible scholars believe, as a result, that the ten countries joining together with the Antichrist will be partly dictatorial types of government and partly democratic types of governments. Others believe the world will be divided into 10 trading or economic blocks which will join as a One World government, which the Antichrist will eventually control.
Still other scholars take a
more literal interpretation and believe the 10 nations will come out of the old
Roman Empire, 5 out of the former western Roman empire, and 5 out of the former
eastern Middle Eastern Roman empire. The five nations from the former western
Roman empire could include such nations as: Britain, France, Spain, Italy,
Switzerland, and, or, Portugal. The five nations out of the former middle
eastern part of the eastern Roman empire could include such nations as: Greece,
Egypt, Lybia, Syria, Turkey and, or, Iraq.
Another eschatology scholar
believes that the Antichrist is related to Russia. If that is true, he says the
10 nations of the former Soviet Union could return into the Russian fold as
tensions between Israel with its ally America and Russia increase. He,
therefore, sees the ten nations as former members of the USSR rejoining Russia
as the threat of conflict with America grows.
However it occurs, and however
difficult it may seem at present, we know God’s word will not fail. The Antichrist
is a screwd politician and demonically inspired. World events could move
suddenly in a direction that would enable such an alliance to be made and bring
the prophetic group of nations together which ever they may be. But at the
moment, we are speculating and we will no doubt understand more fully later as
these events begin to take place.
Revelation says,
Revelation 17: 12 And the ten
horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as
yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These
have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14 These shall make war with the
Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and
King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
Revelation 17: 16 And the ten
horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall
make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will,
and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God
shall be fulfilled. 18 And the woman which thou sawest
is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
The destruction of Babylon the Whore is one of the main endtime events. It seems to take place near the end of the great tribulation period or during the wrath of God. It could involve nuclear weapons as we have seen in some of the prophecies about the wrath of God and the “day of the Lord.” The destruction of the present day American Empire would bring on a total world confusion which could result in a new world order with a new empire in control. However, the rulers of the world who are behind the scenes may wish to maintain a semblance of stability as long as possible while they peacefully transfer power away from America toward the Antichrist. Let us look at the sixth and seventh vial of the wrath of God and see if it may be talking of Babylon’s detruction. If it is, then Babylon’s physical destruction occurs during the 75 day or 2 ½ month wrath of God.
Revelation 16:12 And
the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates, and the
water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be
prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth
of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the
false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the
earth and of the whole world, to gather together them to the battle of that
great day of God Almighty…16 And he gathered them together into a place
called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
Armageddon is a valley north
of the city of Haifa in Israel. It has been used a battlefield before.
Napoleon, when traveling through Israel, remarked that it would be a wonderful
place for a battle. When the sixth vial was poured out it was to prepare and
gather the nations together to “the battle of that great day of God Almighty,”
the Battle of Armageddon. The sixth vial is the preparation and gathering of
the nations to the Battle of Armageddon. Now let’s look at the seventh vial,
the last vial of the wrath of God.
Revelation 16: 17 And
the seveth angel poured out his vial into the air, and there came a great voice
out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. 18 And there
were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such
as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so
great. And the great city
(Babylon the Whore or Jerusalem?) was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in
remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the
fierceness of his wrath.
In the verses above, it seems
that at the time of the seventh vial is when Babylon the Whore is judged, as
she comes “in remembrance before God.” If Babylon the Whore’s political
manifestation today is America, then it would be at that time that some great
American city, perhaps New York, would be destroyed in one hour by fire, as we
have seen in Revelation 17 and 18 previously. However, another possibility is that the “great city”
mentioned in the above verse could be Jerusalem. Let us look at Revelation 11.
Revelation 11: 8 And
their dead bodies shall be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom
and Egypt, where our Lord
was crucified.
The city where our Lord
was crucuified in, was Jerusalem. In the above verse, the city is called the great city. Therefore,
the great city in Revelation 16:18 may be talking about Jerusalem, or it may be
talking about the great city of the comercial system of Babylon the Whore. The
verse also says that “great Babylon came in remembrance before God.” Is there any
clue to understanding which great city the verse is talking about? Are there
any other verses in the Bible speaking about a great earthquake around the time
when Jesus comes back? Let us look at Zechariah 14.
Zechariah 14: 1
Behold, the day of the Lord comes, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst
of thee. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle…3 Then
shall the Lord go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in
the day of battle. 4 And
his feet shall stand in that day upon mount of Olives, which is before
Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the
east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and
half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the
south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of
the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in
the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
We see that Zechariah
prophesying about the Lord’s return speaks about a great earthquake taking
place in Jerusalem running north to south. Let us read a bit more from
Zechariah’s vision.
Zechariah 14:6 And
it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night:
but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light…9 And the Lord shall be king over
all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
Obviously, Zechariah is
talking about the Lord’s return at the end of the wrath of God preceeding the
Millennium. We will look at one last verse where Zechariah describes the battle,
possibly the Battle of Armageddon.
Zechariah 14:12 And
this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have
fought against Jerusalem; Their
flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in
their holes, and their
tongues shall consume away in their mouth.
Zechariah could very well be
describing a nuclear confrontation and the effects of a nuclear explosion on
those humans close enough to the blast to just consume away, or to have their
faces melted by the blast. In Isaiah we have a similar depiction of the “day of
the Lord.”
Isaiah 13:6 Howl
ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the
Almighty. 7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall
melt: 8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them;
they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: they shall be amazed one at
another; their faces shall
be as flames.
We see similar imagery to what
Zechariah saw. Are men’s faces melting away from the heat of a nuclear blast?
Let us continue in Isaiah.
Isaiah 13:9
Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land
desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and the
constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in
his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
In Ezekiel 38 and 39 we see
similar imagery when the Antichrist forces are destroyed by God.
Ezekiel 38:22 And I
will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon
him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great
hailstones, fire, and brimstones.
Ezekiel 39:4 Thou shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5 Thou shall fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, says the Lord God. 6 And I will send a fire on Magog (the Antichrist’s home land, possibly Russia), and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles (which may be England, USA, and Australia): and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Is the Lord talking about
nuclear fire as we have seemingly seen described in some of the other verses?
Will he allow sinful man to almost destroy himself. Or will He Himself produce
the fire and brimstone that will rain down? God often uses natural ways to
bring about His judgments. He often uses one nation to bring about the
destruction of another nation as He did when He used Nebuchadnezzar to destroy
Jerusalem. However, if the destruction of Babylon the Whore doesn’t take place
until these prophecies occur, that would push her destruction to the end of the
wrath of God period. It could also be that the great city that experiences the
great earthquake could be a great city of Babylon the Whore.

Vemos al Anticristo guerreando con sus aliados contra el pueblo de Dios durante el período de la gran tribulación hasta que Cristo regrese para recuperar el reino terrenal. La batalla de Armagedón, descrita en Apocalipsis 19, es donde Cristo toma posesión del reino. En ese momento, los reyes de la tierra serán juzgados, al igual que el Anticristo. De nuevo, la misma descripción del Anticristo que hemos visto en otros pasajes. Los diez cuernos son los mismos diez reyes que se aliarán con la bestia o Anticristo y ayudarán a destruir a la Ramera de Apocalipsis 17 y 18. Vemos también la persecución del pueblo de Dios durante el período de tres años y medio.

Dios es el Juez supremo. El Anticristo y su reino serán juzgados, al igual que los reyes de la tierra. Los santos gobernarán y reinarán con Cristo durante ese período milenario de mil años, tal como leemos en Apocalipsis:
Apocalipsis 20:4c… y vivieron y reinaron con Cristo mil años.
¿Dónde más hemos visto el número diez en las profecías de Daniel?
En el sueño de Nabucodonosor, los diez cuernos o reyes se ven como los diez dedos de los pies de la gran estatua de un hombre. Analicemos el sueño de Nabucodonosor.
Daniel 2:31 «Tú, oh rey, viste, y he aquí una gran estatua. Esta gran estatua, cuyo resplandor era excelente, estaba delante de ti; y su forma era terrible. 32 La cabeza de esta estatua era de oro fino, su pecho y sus brazos de plata, su vientre y sus muslos de bronce, 33 sus piernas de hierro, y sus pies parte de hierro y parte de barro». 34 Viste hasta que una piedra fue cortada sin intervención humana, la cual golpeó la imagen en sus pies, que eran de hierro y barro, y los hizo pedazos.
Daniel 2:35 Entonces el hierro, el barro, el bronce, la plata y el oro fueron hechos pedazos juntos, y se volvieron como la paja de las eras de verano; y el viento se los llevó, y no se halló lugar para ellos. Y la piedra que golpeó la imagen se convirtió en una gran montaña que llenó toda la tierra.
Daniel 2:37 Tú, oh rey, eres rey de reyes, porque el Dios del cielo te ha dado reino, poder, fuerza y gloria. 38 Y dondequiera que habitan los hijos de los hombres, las bestias del campo y las aves del cielo las ha entregado en tu mano, y te ha hecho gobernante sobre todas ellas. Daniel 2:39 Y después de ti se levantará otro reino inferior al tuyo, y otro tercer reino de bronce, que dominará sobre toda la tierra. 40 El cuarto reino será fuerte como el hierro, pues el hierro lo quebranta y lo somete todo; y como el hierro que lo quebranta todo, así lo quebrantará y lo aplastará.
Daniel 2:41 En cuanto a los pies y los dedos que viste, parte de barro de alfarero y parte de hierro, el reino estará dividido; pero habrá en él algo de la fuerza del hierro, porque viste el hierro mezclado con barro. 42 Y como los dedos de los pies eran parte de hierro y parte de barro, así el reino será en parte fuerte y en parte débil.
Daniel 2:43 En cuanto al hierro que viste mezclado con barro, se mezclarán con la descendencia de los hombres, pero no se unirán entre sí, como el hierro no se mezcla con el barro. 44 En los días de estos reyes, el Dios del cielo establecerá un reino que jamás será destruido; este reino no será entregado a otro pueblo, sino que desmenuzará y consumirá a todos estos reinos, y permanecerá para siempre.
Daniel 2:45 Porque viste que la piedra fue cortada del monte sin intervención humana, y que desmenuzó el hierro, el bronce, el barro, la plata y el oro; el gran Dios ha dado a conocer al rey lo que sucederá después. El sueño es cierto, y su interpretación, segura.
En el sueño de Nabucodonosor, los diez reyes que se unen al Anticristo están representados como los diez dedos de los pies. Algunos son de barro y otros de hierro. Simbólicamente, esto representa que algunas de esas naciones serán políticamente más fuertes que otras. Una dictadura se consideraría un gobierno fuerte, un gobierno de hierro. Mientras que una democracia controlada por el pueblo sería vista como un gobierno débil, frágil o endeble.
La imagen de Nabucodonosor tenía dos piernas de hierro, y los pies y los dedos eran en parte de hierro y en parte de barro. Algunos eruditos bíblicos creen, por lo tanto, que los diez países que se unirán al Anticristo tendrán gobiernos en parte dictatoriales y en parte democráticos. Apocalipsis dice:

La destrucción de Babilonia la Ramera es uno de los principales acontecimientos del fin de los tiempos. Parece tener lugar cerca del final del período de la gran tribulación o durante la ira de Dios. Podría implicar armas nucleares, como se ha visto en algunas profecías sobre la ira de Dios y el «día del Señor». La destrucción del actual Imperio estadounidense provocaría una confusión mundial total que podría resultar en un nuevo orden mundial con un nuevo imperio en el poder. Sin embargo, quienes gobiernan el mundo, actuando entre bastidores, tal vez deseen mantener una apariencia de estabilidad el mayor tiempo posible mientras transfieren pacíficamente el poder de Estados Unidos al Anticristo. Analicemos la sexta y la séptima copa de la ira de Dios y veamos si se refieren a la destrucción de Babilonia. De ser así, la destrucción física de Babilonia ocurriría durante los 75 días o dos meses y medio de la ira de Dios.
Apocalipsis 16:12 Y el sexto ángel derramó su copa sobre el gran río Éufrates, y sus aguas se secaron, para que se preparara el camino de los reyes del oriente. 13 Y vi salir de la boca del dragón, de la boca de la bestia y de la boca del falso profeta tres espíritus inmundos semejantes a ranas. 14 Porque son espíritus de demonios que hacen milagros, y que van a los reyes de la tierra y del mundo entero para reunirlos para la batalla de aquel gran día del Dios Todopoderoso… 16 Y los reunió en un lugar llamado en hebreo Armagedón.
Armagedón es un valle al norte de la ciudad de Haifa, en Israel. Ya había sido un campo de batalla. Napoleón, al viajar por Israel, comentó que sería un lugar maravilloso para una batalla. Cuando se derramó la sexta copa, fue para preparar y reunir a las naciones para «la batalla de aquel gran día del Dios Todopoderoso», la batalla de Armagedón. La sexta copa representa la preparación y la reunión de las naciones para la batalla de Armagedón. Ahora veamos la séptima copa, la última copa de la ira de Dios.
Apocalipsis 16:17 Y el séptimo ángel derramó su copa en el aire; y salió una gran voz del templo celestial, desde el trono, que decía: «Hecho está». 18 Y hubo voces, truenos y relámpagos; y hubo un gran terremoto, cual no lo hubo desde que los hombres están sobre la tierra; un terremoto tan fuerte y tan grande. Y la gran ciudad (¿Babilonia la Ramera o Jerusalén?) se dividió en tres partes, y cayeron las ciudades de las naciones; y la gran Babilonia fue recordada delante de Dios, para darle la copa del vino del furor de su ira.
En los versículos anteriores, parece que en el momento de la séptima copa es cuando Babilonia la Ramera es juzgada, pues es recordada «de Dios». Si la manifestación política de Babilonia la Ramera hoy es Estados Unidos, entonces en ese momento alguna gran ciudad estadounidense, tal vez Nueva York, sería destruida por el fuego en una hora, como vimos en Apocalipsis 17 y 18. Sin embargo, otra posibilidad es que la "gran ciudad" mencionada en el versículo anterior sea Jerusalén. Analicemos Apocalipsis 11.
Apocalipsis 11:8: "Y sus cadáveres estarán en la plaza de la gran ciudad, que espiritualmente se llama Sodoma y Egipto, donde nuestro Señor fue crucificado".
La ciudad donde nuestro Señor fue crucificado era Jerusalén. En el versículo anterior, la ciudad es llamada la gran ciudad. Por lo tanto, la gran ciudad en Apocalipsis 16:18 podría referirse a Jerusalén, o podría referirse a la gran ciudad del sistema comercial de Babilonia la Ramera. El versículo también dice que "la gran Babilonia fue recordada ante Dios". ¿Hay alguna pista para comprender a qué gran ciudad se refiere el versículo? ¿Hay otros versículos en la Biblia que hablen de un gran terremoto alrededor del regreso de Jesús? Veamos Zacarías 14.
Zacarías 14: 1 «He aquí, viene el día del Señor, y tu botín será repartido en medio de ti. 2 Porque reuniré a todas las naciones contra Jerusalén para la batalla… 3 Entonces saldrá el Señor y peleará contra aquellas naciones, como peleó en el día de la batalla. 4 En aquel día, sus pies se posarán sobre el monte de los Olivos, que está frente a Jerusalén, al oriente. El monte de los Olivos se partirá por la mitad, hacia el oriente y hacia el occidente, y habrá un gran valle; la mitad del monte se moverá hacia el norte, y la otra mitad hacia el sur. 5 Y huiréis al valle de los montes; Porque el valle de las montañas llegará hasta Azal; sí, huiréis como huisteis del terremoto en los días de Uzías, rey de Judá. Y vendrá Jehová mi Dios, y todos los santos con él.
Vemos que Zacarías, al profetizar sobre el regreso del Señor, habla de un gran terremoto que tendrá lugar en Jerusalén, de norte a sur. Leamos un poco más de la visión de Zacarías.
Zacarías 14:6 Y sucederá en aquel día que no habrá luz ni oscuridad; 7 sino que será un día conocido por Jehová, que no será ni de día ni de noche; sino que al atardecer habrá luz… 9 Y Jehová será rey sobre toda la tierra; en aquel día Jehová será uno, y su nombre uno.
Obviamente, Zacarías habla del regreso del Señor al final de la ira de Dios, antes del Milenio. Analizaremos un último versículo donde Zacarías describe la batalla, posiblemente la Batalla de Armagedón.
Zacarías 14:12: «Esta será la plaga con que el Señor castigará a todos los que han luchado contra Jerusalén: su carne se consumirá mientras estén de pie, sus ojos se consumirán en sus cuencas y sus lenguas se consumirán en su boca».
Zacarías bien podría estar describiendo una confrontación nuclear y los efectos de una explosión nuclear en aquellos humanos lo suficientemente cerca de la explosión como para consumirse o que sus rostros se derritan. En Isaías encontramos una descripción similar del «día del Señor».
Isaías 13:6: «¡Griten!, porque el día del Señor está cerca; vendrá como destrucción del Todopoderoso». 7 Por tanto, todas las manos desfallecerán, y el corazón de cada hombre se derretirá. 8 Tendrán miedo; dolores y angustias los sobrevendrán; sufrirán dolores como los de una mujer de parto; se asombrarán unos de otros; sus rostros serán como llamas.
Vemos imágenes similares a las que vio Zacarías. ¿Acaso los rostros de los hombres se derriten por el calor de una explosión nuclear? Continuemos con Isaías.
Isaías 13:9 He aquí que viene el día del Señor, cruel, con ira y furor, para asolar la tierra; y destruirá de ella a los pecadores. 10 Porque las estrellas del cielo y sus constelaciones no darán su luz; el sol se oscurecerá al salir, y la luna no hará brillar su luz.
En Ezequiel 38 y 39 vemos imágenes similares cuando las fuerzas del Anticristo son destruidas por Dios.
Ezequiel 38:22 Y contenderé contra él con pestilencia y sangre; y haré llover sobre él, sobre sus huestes y sobre los muchos pueblos que están con él, lluvia torrencial, granizo, fuego y azufre.
Ezequiel 39:4 Caerás sobre los montes de Israel, tú y todas tus huestes, y el pueblo que está contigo. Te entregaré a las aves rapaces de toda clase y a las bestias del campo para que te devoren. 5 Caerás en campo abierto, porque así lo he dicho el Señor Dios. 6 Y enviaré fuego sobre Magog (la patria del Anticristo, posiblemente Rusia), y entre los que habitan despreocupadamente en las islas (que podrían ser Inglaterra, Estados Unidos y Australia); y sabrán que yo soy el Señor.
¿Se refiere el Señor al fuego nuclear, como aparentemente se describe en algunos otros versículos? ¿Permitirá Dios que el hombre pecador casi se destruya a sí mismo? ¿O Él mismo desatará el fuego y el azufre que lloverán? Dios a menudo utiliza medios naturales para llevar a cabo sus juicios. Con frecuencia usa una nación para provocar la destrucción de otra, como cuando usó a Nabucodonosor para destruir Jerusalén. Sin embargo, si la destrucción de Babilonia la Ramera no ocurre hasta que se cumplan estas profecías, su destrucción se retrasaría hasta el final del período de la ira de Dios. También podría ser que la gran ciudad que experimente el gran terremoto sea una gran ciudad de Babilonia la Ramera.

Quando analisamos mais a fundo os dez chifres de Daniel 7, o que encontramos?
Daniel 7:19 Então quis saber a verdade a respeito do quarto animal, que era diferente de todos os outros, extremamente terrível, cujos dentes eram de ferro e cujas unhas eram de bronze; o qual devorava, despedaçava e pisava aos pés o que sobrava; 20 e a respeito dos dez chifres que estavam na sua cabeça, e do outro que subiu, e diante do qual caíram três; a respeito daquele chifre que tinha olhos e uma boca que falava grandes coisas, cujo aspecto era mais grave do que o dos seus companheiros. 21 Eu olhei, e eis que o mesmo chifre fazia guerra contra os santos e prevalecia contra eles; 22 até que veio o Ancião de Dias, e foi dado o juízo aos santos do Altíssimo; e chegou o tempo em que os santos possuíram o reino.
Vemos o Anticristo a guerrear com os seus aliados contra o povo de Deus durante o período da grande tribulação, até que Cristo regressa para retomar o reino terreno. A Batalha do Armagedão, vista em Apocalipse 19, é onde Cristo assume o reino. Naquele tempo, os reis da terra serão julgados, assim como o Anticristo. É durante o Milénio, o reinado de 1.000 anos de Cristo na terra, que os santos possuirão o reino.
Apocalipse 20:4 Vi os tronos, e os que se assentaram sobre eles receberam poder para julgar. Vi também as almas daqueles que foram decapitados por causa do testemunho de Jesus e da palavra de Deus, e que não adoraram a besta, nem a sua imagem, e não receberam o sinal na testa nem na mão; e viveram e reinaram com Cristo (na Terra) durante mil anos.
Continuando em Daniel, lê-se:
Daniel 7:23 Assim disse ele: A quarta besta será o quarto reino na terra, o qual será diferente de todos os reinos, e devorará toda a terra, e a pisará aos pés, e a fará em pedaços. 24 Os dez chifres deste reino são dez reis que se levantarão; e depois deles se levantará outro, o qual será diferente dos primeiros, e abaterá três reis. 25 Ele proferirá palavras contra o Altíssimo, oprimirá os santos do Altíssimo e cuidará em mudar os tempos e a lei; os santos serão entregues nas suas mãos por um tempo, tempos e metade de um tempo.
Mais uma vez, vemos a mesma descrição do Anticristo noutros textos. Os dez chifres representam os mesmos dez reis que se aliarão à besta, ou Anticristo, e ajudarão a destruir a Prostituta de Apocalipse 17 e 18. Vemos também a perseguição ao povo de Deus durante um período de três anos e meio.
Daniel 7:26 Mas o juízo se assentará, e lhe tirarão o domínio, para o consumir e destruir completamente. 27 E o reino, e o domínio, e a grandeza do reino debaixo de todo o céu serão dados ao povo dos santos do Altíssimo; o seu reino é um reino eterno, e todos os domínios o servirão e lhe obedecerão.
Deus é o Juiz supremo. O Anticristo e o seu reino serão julgados, assim como os reis da terra. Os santos governarão e reinarão então com Cristo durante o período milenar de 1.000 anos, como se lê no Apocalipse:
Apocalipse 20:4c: “…e viveram e reinaram com Cristo durante mil anos.”
Onde mais encontramos o numeral dez nas profecias de Daniel?
No sonho de Nabucodonosor, os dez chifres, ou reis, são vistos como os dez dedos dos pés da grande estátua de um homem. Vejamos o sonho de Nabucodonosor:
Daniel 2:31 “Tu, ó rei, viste, e eis aqui uma grande estátua. Esta grande estátua, cujo brilho era excelente, estava diante de ti; e a sua aparência era terrível. 32 A cabeça desta estátua era de ouro fino, o seu peito e os seus braços de prata, o seu ventre e as suas coxas de bronze, 33 as suas pernas de ferro, os seus pés em parte de ferro e em parte de barro.” 34 Viste até que uma pedra foi cortada sem auxílio de mãos, a qual feriu a estátua nos pés de ferro e barro, e os despedaçou.
Daniel 2:35 Então o ferro, o barro, o bronze, a prata e o ouro foram despedaçados juntamente, e tornaram-se como a palha das eiras no verão; e o vento os levou, de tal modo que não se encontrou lugar para eles; e a pedra que feriu a estátua tornou-se uma grande montanha, e encheu toda a terra.
Daniel 2:37 Tu, ó rei, és rei dos reis; porque o Deus do céu te deu um reino, poder, força e glória. 38 E onde quer que habitem os filhos dos homens, os animais do campo e as aves do céu, Ele entregou-os nas tuas mãos, e constituiu-te governante sobre todos eles. Tu és a cabeça de ouro.
Daniel 2:39 Depois de ti se levantará outro reino inferior ao teu, e um terceiro reino de bronze, que dominará sobre toda a terra. 40 O quarto reino será forte como o ferro; pois, como o ferro esmiúça e subjuga todas as coisas, assim como o ferro, que esmiúça todas estas coisas, assim ele esmiúçará e despedaçará.
Daniel 2:41 E, como viste os pés e os dedos, em parte de barro de oleiro e em parte de ferro, assim será dividido o reino; contudo, haverá nele algo da força do ferro, porquanto viste o ferro misturado com barro de lodo. 42 E, como os dedos dos pés eram em parte de ferro e em parte de barro, assim será o reino em parte forte e em parte frágil.
Daniel 2:43 E, como viste o ferro misturado com barro de lodo, assim se misturarão com a descendência dos homens; mas não se ligarão uns aos outros, tal como o ferro não se mistura com o barro. 44 Nos dias destes reis, o Deus do céu suscitará um reino que nunca será destruído; e esse reino não será deixado a outro povo; esmagará e consumirá todos estes reinos, e subsistirá para sempre.
Daniel 2:45 Visto que viste que a pedra foi cortada do monte sem auxílio de mãos, e que esmiuçou o ferro, o bronze, o barro, a prata e o ouro, o grande Deus fez saber ao rei o que há de acontecer depois disso; e o sonho é verdadeiro, e a sua interpretação fiel.
No sonho de Nabucodonosor, os 10 reis que se unem ao Anticristo são representados como os dez dedos dos pés. Uns são de barro e outros de ferro. Simbolicamente, isto representa o facto de que algumas destas nações serão politicamente mais fortes do que outras. Uma ditadura seria considerada um governo forte, de “ferro”. Enquanto uma democracia controlada pelo povo seria vista como um governo "de barro", "quebrado" ou mais fraco.
A imagem de Nabucodonosor tinha duas pernas de ferro e os pés e os dedos eram parcialmente de ferro e parcialmente de barro. Alguns estudiosos da Bíblia acreditam, por isso, que os dez países que se unirão ao Anticristo serão, em parte, governos ditatoriais e, em parte, governos democráticos. Outros acreditam que o mundo será dividido em 10 blocos comerciais ou económicos que se unirão num governo mundial único, que o Anticristo acabará por controlar.
Outros estudiosos adotam ainda uma interpretação mais literal e acreditam que as 10 nações serão provenientes do antigo Império Romano, 5 do antigo Império Romano do Ocidente e 5 do antigo Império Romano do Médio Oriente. As cinco nações do antigo Império Romano do Ocidente poderiam incluir países como: Grã-Bretanha, França, Espanha, Itália, Suíça e/ou Portugal. As cinco nações que faziam parte do antigo Médio Oriente, território do Império Romano do Oriente, podiam incluir países como a Grécia, o Egipto, a Líbia, a Síria, a Turquia e/ou o Iraque.
Outro estudioso de escatologia acredita que o Anticristo está relacionado com a Rússia. Se isto for verdade, afirma que as dez nações da antiga União Soviética poderão regressar à Rússia à medida que as tensões entre Israel, o seu aliado, os Estados Unidos e a Rússia aumentam. Vê, por isso, estas dez nações como ex-membros da URSS a reunirem-se à Rússia à medida que cresce a ameaça de conflito com os Estados Unidos.
Seja como for, e por mais difícil que possa parecer no momento, sabemos que a palavra de Deus não falhará. O Anticristo é um político corrupto e inspirado por demónios. Os acontecimentos mundiais podem mudar subitamente de direção, permitindo que tal aliança seja formada e reunindo o grupo profético de nações, sejam elas quais forem. Mas, neste momento, estamos a especular e, sem dúvida, compreenderemos melhor mais tarde, à medida que estes acontecimentos começarem a ocorrer.
Apocalipse diz:
Apocalipse 17:12 Os dez chifres que viste são dez reis que ainda não receberam reino, mas receberão poder como reis por uma hora, juntamente com a besta. 13 Estes têm um só propósito e entregarão o seu poder e a sua autoridade à besta. 14 Estes guerrearão contra o Cordeiro, e o Cordeiro os vencerá, porque é o Senhor dos senhores e o Rei dos reis; e os que estão com ele são chamados, eleitos e fiéis.
Apocalipse 17:16 Os dez chifres que viste na besta odiarão a prostituta, e a deixarão desolada e nua, e comerão a sua carne, e a queimarão no fogo. 17 Porque Deus lhes pôs no coração que cumpram o seu desejo, e que concordem em entregar o seu reino à besta, até que se cumpram as palavras de Deus. 18 A mulher que viste é a grande cidade que reina sobre os reis da terra.
A destruição da Babilónia, a Prostituta, é um dos principais acontecimentos do fim dos tempos. Parece ocorrer perto do fim do período da grande tribulação ou durante a ira de Deus. Pode envolver armas nucleares, como vimos em algumas profecias sobre a ira de Deus e o "dia do Senhor". A destruição do actual Império Americano traria uma total confusão mundial, que poderia resultar numa nova ordem mundial com um novo império no controlo. Contudo, os governantes mundiais que actuam nos bastidores podem desejar manter uma aparência de estabilidade pelo maior tempo possível, enquanto transferem pacificamente o poder da América para o Anticristo. Observemos a sexta e a sétima taça da ira de Deus e vejamos se se referem à destruição da Babilónia. Se for este o caso, então a destruição física da Babilónia ocorrerá durante os 75 dias, ou 2 meses e meio, da ira de Deus.

Armagedão é um vale a norte da cidade de Haifa, em Israel. Já foi utilizado como campo de batalha. Napoleão, ao viajar por Israel, comentou que seria um lugar maravilhoso para uma batalha. Quando a sexta taça foi derramada, foi para preparar e reunir as nações para “a batalha daquele grande dia do Deus Todo-Poderoso”, a Batalha do Armagedão. A sexta taça representa a preparação e a reunião das nações para a Batalha do Armagedão. Agora, vejamos a sétima taça, a última taça da ira de Deus.
Apocalipse 16:17 O sétimo anjo derramou a sua taça no ar, e saiu uma grande voz do templo do céu, do trono, dizendo: Está feito. 18 E houve vozes, e trovões, e relâmpagos; e houve um grande terramoto, como nunca houve desde que há homens sobre a terra, tão grande e tão poderoso foi o terramoto. E a grande cidade (Babilónia, a Prostituta, ou Jerusalém?) foi dividida em três partes, e as cidades das nações caíram; e a grande Babilónia foi lembrada perante Deus, para lhe dar o cálice do vinho da fúria da sua ira.
Nos versículos acima, parece que no momento da sétima taça é quando Babilónia, a Prostituta, é julgada, ao ser lembrada perante Deus. Se a manifestação política da Babilónia, a Prostituta, hoje for a América, então seria nesse momento que alguma grande cidade americana, talvez Nova Iorque, seria destruída numa hora pelo fogo, como vimos anteriormente em Apocalipse 17 e 18. No entanto, outra possibilidade é que a “grande cidade” mencionada no versículo acima seja Jerusalém. Vejamos Apocalipse 11.
Apocalipse 11:8 Os seus cadáveres estarão na rua da grande cidade, que espiritualmente se chama Sodoma e Egito, onde o Senhor nosso foi crucificado.
A cidade onde o Senhor nosso foi crucificado foi Jerusalém. No versículo acima, a cidade é chamada de grande cidade. Portanto, a grande cidade em Apocalipse 16:18 pode estar a referir-se a Jerusalém, ou pode estar a referir-se à grande cidade do sistema comercial da Babilónia, a Prostituta. O versículo diz ainda que “a grande Babilónia veio à memória de Deus”. Há alguma pista para percebermos a que grande cidade se refere o versículo? Existem outros versículos na Bíblia que falem de um grande terramoto por volta da altura do regresso de Jesus? Vejamos Zacarias 14.
Zacarias 14:1 Eis que vem o dia do Senhor, e os teus despojos serão repartidos no meio de ti. 2 Porque eu reunirei todas as nações contra Jerusalém para a batalha… 3 Então o Senhor sairá e pelejará contra essas nações, como quando pelejou no dia da batalha. 4 Naquele dia, os seus pés estarão sobre o monte das Oliveiras, que está defronte de Jerusalém para o oriente; e o monte das Oliveiras será fendido pelo meio, para o oriente e para o ocidente, e haverá um vale muito grande; e metade do monte remover-se-á para norte, e a outra metade para sul. 5 E fugireis para o vale dos montes; Pois o vale dos montes chegará até Azal; sim, fugireis, como fugistes do terramoto nos dias de Uzias, rei de Judá; e o Senhor meu Deus virá, e todos os santos contigo.
Vemos que Zacarias, profetizando sobre o regresso do Senhor, fala de um grande terramoto que ocorrerá em Jerusalém, de norte a sul. Leiamos mais um pouco da visão de Zacarias.
Zacarias 14:6 Naquele dia, não haverá luz nem trevas; 7 mas será um só dia, que o Senhor conhecerá; não será dia nem noite; ao entardecer haverá luz… 9 E o Senhor será rei sobre toda a terra; nesse dia haverá um só Senhor, e o seu nome será um só.
Obviamente, Zacarias está a falar do regresso do Senhor no fim da ira de Deus que precede o Milénio. Analisaremos um último versículo onde Zacarias descreve a batalha, possivelmente a Batalha do Armagedão.
Zacarias 14:12 Esta será a praga com que o Senhor ferirá todos os povos que guerrearam contra Jerusalém: a sua carne se consumirá enquanto estiverem de pé, os seus olhos se consumirão nas suas órbitas e a sua língua se consumirá na sua boca.
Zacarias pode muito bem estar a descrever um confronto nuclear e os efeitos de uma explosão nuclear nos seres humanos suficientemente próximos da explosão para serem consumidos ou terem os seus rostos derretidos pela explosão. Em Isaías, temos uma descrição semelhante do “dia do Senhor”.
Isaías 13:6 Lamentem, porque o dia do Senhor está próximo; virá como destruição da parte do Todo-Poderoso. 7 Por isso, todas as mãos ficarão desfalecidas, e o coração de todos se derreterá; 8 e ficarão com medo; dores e angústias os dominarão; terão dores como a mulher que está em trabalho de parto; ficarão atónitos uns com os outros; os seus rostos ficarão como chamas.
Vemos imagens semelhantes às que Zacarias viu. Os rostos dos homens estão a derreter com o calor de uma explosão nuclear? Continuemos em Isaías.
Isaías 13:9 Eis que vem o dia do Senhor, dia cruel, com ira e furor ardente, para devastar a terra e destruir dela os seus pecadores. 10 Porque as estrelas do céu e as suas constelações não darão a sua luz; o sol escurecerá ao nascer, e a lua não fará resplandecer a sua luz.
Em Ezequiel 38 e 39, vemos imagens semelhantes quando as forças do Anticristo são destruídas por Deus.
Ezequiel 38:22 E entrarei em juízo contra ele com pestilência e com sangue; e farei chover sobre ele, e sobre as suas tropas, e sobre os muitos povos que estão com ele, uma chuva torrencial, e grandes pedras de granizo, fogo e enxofre.
Ezequiel 39:4 Cairás sobre os montes de Israel, tu, e todas as tuas tropas, e o povo que está contigo; entregá-lo-ei às aves de rapina de toda a espécie, e às feras do campo, para ser devorado. 5 Cairás em campo aberto; porque eu o disse, diz o Senhor Deus. 6 E enviarei fogo sobre Magogue (a terra natal do Anticristo, possivelmente a Rússia), e sobre os que habitam despreocupadamente nas ilhas (que podem ser a Inglaterra, os EUA e a Austrália); e saberão que Eu sou o Senhor.
Estaria o Senhor a falar de fogo nuclear, como aparentemente vimos descrito em alguns dos outros versículos? Será que Ele permitirá que o homem pecador quase se destrua a si próprio? Costuma usar uma nação para causar a destruição de outra, como fez quando usou Nabucodonosor para destruir Jerusalém. Contudo, se a destruição da Babilónia, a Prostituta, não ocorrer antes do cumprimento destas profecias, isso adiaria a sua destruição para o final do período da ira de Deus. É também possível que a grande cidade que sofre o grande terramoto seja uma grande cidade da Babilónia, a Prostituta.

The God of Daniel - Revealer of Secrets

In the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament we find Daniel and his friends living in Babylonian captivity during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar. Since they were sons of noblemen they had been chosen to be trained in the sciences of the Babylonians. However, when they go to the Babylonian school for training they are presented with foods which they are not used to eating, foods that were forbidden in the laws of Moses. They decide to keep to their convictions and refuse to eat the Babylonian foods preferring the basically vegetarian diet of their culture. As a result, God blesses them. In the end, they pass their exams in the Babylonian sciences so well that the Bible says,
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.[1]
In the Psalms we read these promises:
Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.[2]
Those that meditate on God’s word and follow His precepts are accorded wisdom from on high.
In the process of time, Nebuchadnezzar, the King of Babylon, has a troublesome dream which he cannot remember. He calls for all the wise men in Babylon to divine the dream for him and its interpretation. The wise men protest saying the king could not ask such a thing as it was impossible for them to know the king’s dream, if he himself could not remember it. But the king insists and says, “Tell me the dream and the interpretation of it or you will all be slain.”
It is at this point that Daniel tells the captain of the guard to give him time and he will find out the dream and its meaning. Daniel and his friends get down in desperate prayer and pray that God in his mercies will reveal the dream unto them. Daniel in a vision in the night sees the King’s dream and learns the interpretation of it. And Daniel thanks God:
Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast now made known unto us the king's matter.[3]
Afterwards when Daniel is before the King, the King asks him if he is able to make known to him his dream and the interpretation thereof. Daniel responds:
Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;[4] But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.[5]
Daniel goes on to explain the dream and its interpretation. The king bows down before him and worships him and says,
The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret.[6]
Daniel is made ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon. His friends are also given positions of authority in the province of Babylon, but Daniel served as the king’s counselor. It was Daniel relationship with God; it was his desperation and ability to hear from God, which enabled him to be able to interpret the king’s dream, a prophecy about the future of the world.
I put this section about Daniel in to reiterate the point that God is a revealer of the future. In fact, the Book of Daniel is one of the most important prophecy books in the Bible. A little book with only twelve chapters, it has nearly eight whole chapters given to prophecy and two other chapters given to prayer. One prophecy that Daniel received predicted the year of the Messiah’s death.
