There is a precious old song that has been ringing in my mind and bringing back many memories. My mother used to sing it when I was a child.
Sing them over again to me,
Wonderful words of life;
Let me more of their beauty see,
Wonderful words of life.
Words of life and beauty
Teach me faith and duty;
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
Wonderful words of life.1
Of course, the song is about the Word of God, the Bible. And nothing could better describe the blessing of that precious book. They are indeed wonderful words of life! I have a friend who is so very frail that it just seems a miracle that she lives on, but she has a secret: She draws her life and strength from reading God’s Word. When she feels her strength is failing, she takes her Bible and gets alone and reads on and on until some verse gives her fresh courage, and some promise gives her faith to hold on. So, day by day she literally finds life in God’s Word, the wonderful words of life.
And I am going to say that I do the same. I can understand this, because it was through the reading of the Bible to me that I had life and strength restored when I was a hopeless invalid for years. That was years ago, but it’s still the same today. If I get down in spirit or tired or the Enemy tries to discourage me or my strength fails, I find strength and blessing in the Word of God.
If only those people who are so troubled and discouraged and defeated could realize that in the Bible they will find the help and comfort they need, what a different world this would be. How many problems would be solved! And if our nation would go back to the faith of our fathers in the Bible and live by its standards, what a difference there would be now in these crisis times also.
I’m reminded me of a story I heard about a llama that had been shipped to this country to a zoo. But upon arrival at a certain station, the agent at the freight depot was questioned about where the animal was being shipped. He responded, “Well, she don’t know where she’s goin’; she done chawed her tag!” Well, I think society has done the same, and people don’t know where they’re going. There’s so much confusion and contention, and people are so divided in opinion because there is no definite standard.
I wish it were possible for me to tell you of the lives I have known that have been utterly transformed by reading God’s Word. Some of them were raised to the greatest heights from the lowest depths. Indeed, there is life and power in the Word of God!
Some of you who are reading this right now know this, yet you neglect to read the Bible. And you wonder why you get down in spirit and so lacking in Christian graces and lose patience. Everything else in your life is given time and considered more important, and just a few ragged minutes are given to reading the Bible that would have made the day beautiful and would have made the problems so much easier to face.
Nations, as well as individuals, have to have a standard by which to live. The question is: What is right, what is wrong? There must be a standard. There has to be a foundation of truth.
I was in a Christian home some time ago when the mother started excusing the actions of her teens, and said, “But you know how young people are today. And the standards are so different today, aren’t they, Mrs. Berg?” Well, it was a question and so I answered it. “No,” I said, “they are not different for a Christian or for a Christian home. The standard is the Bible for Christians, and that has never changed.”
Yes, there must be a standard, and this is what God has given us in His Word. If you don’t know what to do, if you can’t decide what’s right, go to your Bible. It makes every path plain. The Bible contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the path of believers. Its doctrine is holy, its precepts are binding, its history is true, its decisions immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be blessed.
It contains light to direct you and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s comfort, the soldier’s sword, the Christian’s character. Therein heaven is opened and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is the subject and the glory of God its end.
Please fill your memory with it! Let it rule your heart and guide your feet. Read it slowly, frequently, prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth and health to the soul, and a river of pleasure. It is established forever. If you are troubled today, read your Bible and claim a promise. Put your finger upon the promise and say, “Lord, You are no respecter of persons; this promise is for me.” Read on and on until you find in His Word the truth that satisfies the hunger of your heart. God means it for you.
God bless you. He’s still on the throne and He answers prayer.

Dios nos ha dicho que no nos conformemos a este mundo ni a sus modas, sino que nos transformemos mediante la renovación de nuestra mente para que podamos comprobar cuál es la buena y agradable voluntad de Dios.
Haya, pues, en vosotros este sentir que hubo también en Cristo, quien, siendo en forma de Dios, se humilló a sí mismo y tomó forma de siervo, hecho semejante a los hombres, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz.
Por lo cual Dios lo exaltó hasta lo sumo, y le dio un nombre que es sobre todo nombre, para que en el nombre de Jesús se doble toda rodilla de los que están en los cielos, y en la tierra, y debajo de la tierra; y toda lengua confiese que Jesucristo es el Señor, para gloria de Dios Padre. Porque no hay otro nombre bajo el cielo, dado a los hombres, en que podamos ser salvos.
Invoca el nombre de Jesús y serás salvo. Asumamos su naturaleza divina. Porque a todos los que lo recibieron, les dio potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios, es decir, a los que creen en su nombre. No por obras de justicia que hayamos hecho, sino por su misericordia nos salvó. Porque la ley fue dada por Moisés, pero la gracia y la verdad vinieron por Jesucristo.
Permaneciendo en él y en su palabra, añadan a su fe virtud, a la virtud conocimiento, al conocimiento templanza, a la templanza paciencia, y a la paciencia afecto fraternal. Porque si estas cosas están en ustedes y abundan, no los dejarán estériles ni sin fruto en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Pero quien carece de estas cosas es ciego y no puede ver a lo lejos.
Ha perdido la visión. Sin visión, la gente perece en lo mundano, en lugar de ser transformada por lo sobrenatural. Caminan en tinieblas y no en la luz. Olvidan que han sido purificados de sus antiguos pecados, y como un perro que vuelve a su vómito, así regresan al mundo. Se alejan del Dios vivo habiendo amado este mundo presente, un mundo que nunca les trajo felicidad ni plenitud.
Cuídense, pues, de que no se encuentre en ninguno de ustedes un corazón malo de incredulidad al alejarse del Dios vivo. Antes bien, anímense unos a otros diariamente, para que ninguno de ustedes se endurezca por el engaño del pecado. Que sus corazones se quebranten, se ablanden y se entreguen en las manos del Maestro para que su corazón de piedra se transforme en un corazón de carne, un corazón rebosante de amor y compasión divinos.

Embora o exterior se corrompa, o interior renova-se de dia para dia.
Deus disse-nos para não nos conformarmos com este mundo e com os seus costumes, mas sermos transformados pela renovação da nossa mente, para que possamos experimentar e comprovar a boa, e agradável vontade de Deus.
Tende entre vós o mesmo modo de pensar que Cristo tinha: Ele, embora sendo Deus, humilhou-Se a Si mesmo, tomando a forma de servo, tornando-Se semelhante aos homens. E foi obediente até à morte, e morte de cruz!
Por isso, Deus o exaltou soberanamente e Lhe deu o nome que está acima de todo o nome, para que ao nome de Jesus se dobre todo o joelho, nos céus, na terra e debaixo da terra, e toda a língua confesse que Jesus Cristo é o Senhor, para glória de Deus Pai. Porque, debaixo do céu, não há nenhum outro nome dado aos homens pelo qual devamos ser salvos.
Invoquem o nome de Jesus e serão salvos. Assuma a Sua natureza divina. Pois a todos quantos O receberam, deu-lhes o poder de se tornarem filhos de Deus, a saber, aos que crêem no Seu nome. Não por obras de justiça que tenhamos feito, mas segundo a Sua misericórdia, Ele nos salvou. Porque a lei foi dada por Moisés; a graça e a verdade vieram por Jesus Cristo.

Ele perdeu a visão. Sem visão, as pessoas perecem no mundano, em vez de serem transformadas pelo sobrenatural. Andam nas trevas e não na luz. Esquecem-se de que foram purificadas dos seus pecados antigos e, como um cão que regressa ao seu vómito, assim regressam ao mundo. Afastam-se do Deus vivo por amarem este mundo presente, um mundo que nunca lhes trouxe felicidade ou plenitude.
Portanto, tomai cuidado para que nenhum de vós tenha um coração perverso e incrédulo, que vos afaste do Deus vivo. Mas encorajai-vos uns aos outros todos os dias, para que nenhum de vós seja endurecido pelo engano do pecado. Que os vossos corações sejam quebrantados, ternos e entregues nas mãos do Mestre, para que os vossos corações de pedra possam ser transformados em corações de carne, corações transbordantes de amor e compaixão divinos.

And though the outward man perishes, yet the inward man is
renewed day by day.
God has told us to be not conformed to this world and the
fashions thereof, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds that we
might to be able to prove what is the good and acceptable will of God.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ, who
though He was in the form of God humbled Himself and took upon Himself the form
of a servant and was made in the likeness of man. He became obedient unto
death, even the death of the cross.
Therefore, God has highly exalted Him and given Him a name
that is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of
things in heaven and things in earth, and things under the earth. And that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father. For there is no other name under heaven given amongst men whereby we
must be saved.
Call upon the name of Jesus and you shall be saved. Take on
His Divine nature. For as many as receive Him, to them gave He power to become
the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name. Not by works of
righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He has saved us.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Through abiding in Him and His word add unto your faith virtue,
and to virtue knowledge, and to knowledge temperance, and to temperance
patience, and to patience brotherly kindness. For if these things be in you and
abound, they shall make you to be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge
of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacks these things is blind and cannot
see a far off.
He has lost his vision. Without a vision the people perish
in the mundane, rather than being transformed by the supernatural. They walk in
darkness and not in the light. They forget they have been purged from their old
sins, and as a dog returns to his vomit, so do they return to the world. They
depart from the living God having loved this present world, a world which never
brought them happiness or fulfilment in the first place.
Take heed therefore that there be found in any of you an
evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God. But exhort one another
daily less any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Let your
hearts be broken, tender, and yielded in the Master’s hands that your heart of
stone can be transformed into a heart of flesh, a heart overflowing with Divine
love and compassion.
