"Mas em todas estas coisas somos mais que vencedores, por meio daquele que nos amou!"
O apóstolo Paulo, ao falar de todas as aflições e dificuldades por que passou, declara com confiança que é vitorioso mesmo na derrota, na humilhação e na morte, por causa do amor de Cristo que habita nele. Escreve: "Quem nos separará do amor de Cristo? Será tribulação, ou angústia, ou perseguição, ou fome, ou nudez, ou perigo, ou espada? [...] Por amor de ti", por amor do nome de Jesus, "somos entregues à morte todo o dia; fomos considerados como ovelhas para o matadouro."
A comunidade cristã primitiva sofreu uma severa perseguição, cerca de 10 grandes vagas de perseguição romana durante os primeiros 300 anos do cristianismo, para além daquela instigada pelos judeus ciumentos. Em muitos países, hoje, os cristãos sofrem uma severa perseguição e até a morte pela sua fé. Pense na China, Coreia do Norte, norte da Nigéria, Irão, Paquistão e outros países muçulmanos. Algumas leis são mais rigorosas do que outras, mas em muitos destes países a conversão ao cristianismo é proibida e punível com a morte.
O apóstolo Paulo refere algumas das suas provações: “Em açoites sem medida, em prisões frequentes, em mortes muitas vezes. Cinco vezes recebi dos judeus quarenta açoites menos um. Três vezes fui açoitado com varas, uma vez fui apedrejado (e deixado como morto), três vezes sofri naufrágio, passei uma noite e um dia no alto-mar; em viagens frequentes, em perigos dos rios, em perigos de salteadores, em perigos dos meus compatriotas, em perigos dos gentios, em perigos na cidade, em perigos no deserto, em perigos no mar, em perigos entre falsos irmãos; em fadiga e cansaço, em noites frequentemente insones, em fome e sede, em jejuns frequentes, em frio e nudez.”
Jesus prometeu-nos que, se seguíssemos fielmente os Seus passos, sofreríamos perseguições. “Se me perseguiram, também vos perseguirão… Mas farão tudo isto por causa do meu nome, porque não conhecem aquele que me enviou.” “Entregar-vos-ão para serem afligidos e vos matarão; e sereis odiados por todas as nações por causa do meu nome… Mas aquele que perseverar até ao fim será salvo.”
Tanto Jesus como o apóstolo Paulo prometeram que todos os que são piedosos em Cristo Jesus sofrerão perseguições. Contudo, Jesus também prometeu que estaria connosco durante a perseguição e permaneceria ao nosso lado. Ele disse: “E eis que Eu estarei convosco todos os dias, até à consumação dos séculos.” Ele disse: “Não se perturbe o vosso coração, nem se atemorize… Neste mundo tereis aflições; mas tende bom ânimo, Eu venci o mundo.”
Jesus venceu o mundo e a terrível perseguição que sofreu. Ele promete ajudar-nos nos nossos momentos de aflição, sejam eles quais forem. Diz Ele: “Não temais as coisas que hás de padecer. Eis que o diabo lançará alguns de vós na prisão, para que sejais provados; […] sede fiéis até à morte, e dar-vos-ei a coroa da vida.” “Ao que vencer e guardar as minhas obras até ao fim, darei poder sobre as nações.”
“Ao que vencer será vestido de branco.” O branco representa a justiça dos santos, a justiça que nos foi imputada, a nós que acreditamos, por causa da nossa fé e obediência a Jesus Cristo. “De maneira nenhuma apagarei o seu nome do livro da vida; antes, confessarei o seu nome diante de meu Pai e diante dos seus anjos.”
“Porque guardaste a palavra da Minha paciência”, isto é, porque seguiste fielmente a palavra de Deus, acreditando nela e obedecendo-Lhe, “também Eu te guardarei da hora da tentação que há de vir sobre todo o mundo, para provar os que habitam sobre a terra. Eis que venho sem demora”, ou seja, de repente, quando menos esperares. “Retém o que tens, para que ninguém tome a tua coroa.”
Precisamos de nos agarrar à nossa fé e perseverar até ao fim para sermos vencedores, mas Jesus promete dar-nos uma fé inabalável perante todas as dificuldades que encontrarmos. Persevere!

El apóstol Pablo, al hablar de toda la aflicción y los problemas que atravesó, declara con confianza que es victorioso incluso en la derrota, la humillación y la muerte gracias al amor de Cristo que reside en él. Escribe: "¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo? ¿Tribulación, o angustia, o persecución, o hambre, o desnudez, o peligro, o espada? … Por tu causa", por el nombre de Jesús, "somos muertos constantemente; somos contados como ovejas de matadero".
La comunidad cristiana primitiva sufrió una severa persecución: unas diez grandes oleadas de persecución romana durante los primeros 300 años del cristianismo, además de la incitada por los celosos religiosos judíos. En muchos países hoy en día, los cristianos sufren severa persecución e incluso la muerte por su fe. Pensemos en China, Corea del Norte, el norte de Nigeria, Irán, Pakistán y otros países musulmanes. Algunos son más estrictos que otros, pero en muchos de esos países la conversión al cristianismo está prohibida y se castiga con la muerte.
El apóstol Pablo menciona algunas de sus pruebas: “En azotes sin medida, en cárceles más a menudo, en muertes muchas veces. De los judíos cinco veces recibí cuarenta azotes menos uno. Tres veces fui azotado con varas, una vez apedreado (y dado por muerto), tres veces naufragé, una noche y un día en alta mar; en viajes frecuentes, en peligros de ríos, peligros de ladrones, peligros de mis propios compatriotas, peligros de los paganos, peligros en la ciudad, peligros en el desierto, peligros en el mar, peligros entre falsos hermanos; en cansancio y dolor, en noches de desvelo muchas veces, en hambre y sed, en ayunos frecuentes, en frío y desnudez”.
Jesús nos prometió que si seguíamos fielmente sus pasos, sufriríamos persecución. Si me han perseguido a mí, también os perseguirán a vosotros… Pero todo esto os harán por causa de mi nombre, porque no conocen al que me envió. Os entregarán a tribulación, y os matarán, y seréis aborrecidos de todas las naciones por causa de mi nombre… Pero el que persevere hasta el fin, éste será salvo.
Tanto Jesús como el apóstol Pablo prometieron que todos los que sean piadosos en Cristo Jesús sufrirán persecución. Sin embargo, Jesús también prometió que estaría con nosotros durante la persecución y nos apoyaría. Dijo: «Y he aquí, yo estoy con vosotros siempre, hasta el fin del mundo». Dijo: «No se turbe vuestro corazón ni tenga miedo… En el mundo tendréis tribulaciones; pero confiad, yo he vencido al mundo». Jesús venció al mundo y la terrible persecución que soportó. Promete ayudarnos en nuestros momentos de aflicción, sea cual sea. Dice: «No teman nada de lo que van a padecer. He aquí, el diablo echará a algunos de ustedes en la cárcel para que sean probados;… sean fieles hasta la muerte, y yo les daré la corona de la vida». «Al que venza y guarde mis obras hasta el fin, le daré autoridad sobre las naciones».
«Al que venza, será vestido de vestiduras blancas». Las vestiduras blancas representan la justicia de los santos, la justicia que nos ha sido imputada a los que creemos, debido a nuestra fe y obediencia a Jesucristo. «Y no borraré su nombre del libro de la vida, sino que confesaré su nombre delante de mi Padre y delante de sus ángeles». “Porque has guardado la palabra de mi paciencia”, es decir, seguiste fielmente la palabra de Dios, creyéndola y obedeciéndola, “yo también te guardaré de la hora de la prueba que ha de venir sobre el mundo entero para probar a los que moran sobre la tierra. He aquí, vengo pronto”; o de repente, cuando menos lo esperes. “Retén lo que tienes, para que nadie te quite la corona”.
Tenemos que aferrarnos a nuestra fe y perseverar hasta el final para ser vencedores, pero Jesús promete darnos una fe vencedora ante cualquier dificultad que podamos encontrar. ¡Resiste!

"Nay, in all these things we are more than conqueror through
Him that loved us!"
Apostle Paul, talking about all the affliction and trouble
he went through, confidently declares that he is victorious even in defeat and
humiliation and death because the love of Christ which is within him. He writes,
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril or sword? … For Your sake,”
for Jesus’ name sake, “we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep
for the slaughter.”
The early Christian community suffered severe persecution,
some 10 major waves of Roman persecution during Christianity’s first 300 years,
besides that which was stirred up by the jealous Jewish religionists. In many
countries today Christians suffer severe persecution and even death for their
faith. Think of China, North Korea, northern Nigeria, Iran, Pakistan, the other
Muslim countries. Some are stricter than others, but in many of those countries
converting to Christianity is prohibited and punishable by death.
Apostle Paul mentions some of his trials: “In stripes above
measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. Of the Jews five times
received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once I was
stoned (and left for dead), thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day in
the deep; in journeying often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in
perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city,
in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false
brethren; in weariness and painfulness, in sleepless nights often, in hunger
and thirst, in fasting often, in cold and nakedness.”
Jesus promised us that if we faithfully followed in His steps,
we would suffer persecution. “If they have persecuted Me, they will also
persecute you… But all these things will they do unto you for My name’s sake,
because they know not Him that sent Me.” “They shall deliver you up to be
afflicted, and shall kill you: and you shall be hated of all nations for My
name’s sake. … But he that endures unto the end, the same shall be saved.”
Both Jesus and Apostle Paul have promised that all that will
godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. However, Jesus has also
promised that He would be with us through the persecution and stand by our
side. He said, “And, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
He said, “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. … “In the
world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the
world.”
Jesus overcame the world and the terrible persecution He
endured. He promises to help us in our moment of affliction whatever it may be.
He says, “Fear none of those things which you shall suffer: behold, the devil
shall cast some of you into prison, that you may be tried; … be faithful unto
death, and I will give you a crown of life.” “He that overcomes, and keeps My
works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations.”
“He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment.”
The white raiment is the righteousness of the saints, the righteousness that
has been imputed unto us who believe, because of our faith and obedience to Jesus
Christ. “And I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will
confess his name before My Father, and before His angels.”
“Because you have kept the word of My patience,” in other words, you faithfully followed God’s word, believing it and obeying it, “I also will keep you from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly:” or suddenly, when you least expect it. “Hold that fast which you have, that no man takes your crown.”
We’ve got to hold onto to our faith, and endure unto the end to be
overcomers, but Jesus promises to give us overcoming faith in the face of every
difficulty we may encounter. Hold on!
